    BMW are gaslighting us....I own the previous Electric Mini. This is a cheaped-out Chinese knock-off of a 'real' Mini with only ONE thing improved - if that matters to you - better range. Other than that, they've got rid of all the quality you expect from BMW / Mini....all the soft touch surfaces, leather seats and switchgear has gone to save costs. Replaced with gimmicky 'Whoohoo' sounds and fakery dumbass noises which do nothing for the owners experience.
    Now you're being persuaded that a car built in China by the state owned Great Wall Motors is infact an upgrade from the Mini built in Oxford by BMW....yeah right c'mon, it's might as well be a reskinned Ora Funky Cat. Heavier, no faster, not a real Mini.
    I'm not falling for this marketing nonsense. Beware the reviewers won't

      You driven this? When do you ignore it drives better and has better range and quicker. This is the smaller pack but still manages real world 160. The previous MINI electric a compromise with around 110 miles. My Oxford built MINI as described by the apologetic letter from BMW was a disgrace missing screws, cables wrongly routed, a fuse box not screwed into place, a roof console with screws loose rattling around, an electrical failure that had the Car sitting at the dealer for five weeks while waiting for parts, trim not fitted correctly, part of the door handle fell off three times and door handle finally replaced due to design flaw. In all 18 times the Car was in from split new and I should have rejected it but got a refund direct from MINI. So I bet going with super efficient and dedicated Chinese workforce a safer bet. Granted my Car was one of first on U.K. roads of it generation but still no excuse. As a friend who has sadly passed away that always had the best in the Works special additions you never buy a new gen MINI till they bring out the works version because by that time they have learned to build them.

      @@SWR112I am guessing you have never driven the old SE. Nobody, except a motoring journalist can get near the EPA 110 mile range. WLTP is achievable every day of the week - 144 miles (or 233km). 50% bigger battery for 16 miles increase. Yep, sounds like a bargain. It definitely does *not* feel better to drive. I have driven both (and own a f56 SE). The new one is great compared to run of the mill EVs, but not the f56.
      Did you know they slowed the car down by downgrading the traction control because the old one felt slower to some people because it wasn't twitchy? Yep, same pwr in the old and new SE (to within a half a percent) but worse traction control. I'm sure the 15 year old in my likes hanging the back out and fighting torque steer, but the adult in me prefers going faster :)

      @SWR112 Před měsícem +1

      The F56 Electric was a compromise and suffered because of it. It now has been left behind and this new gen is a better drive, quicker and built from the ground up as a EV. It’s probably knocked £10k off the old gen as why would you and that may bring the cars price down for more to get in an electric. I’ve seen one F56 version level 3 that was on £31k now £23k with delivery miles still. The new gen bigger pack doing over 200 miles real world is still behind the competition but a huge improvement. The all singing and loaded Cooper S with sports pack with all the JCW badges at £43k is just ridiculous maybe if it was £32k. There is still a £10k difference between Electric V ICE for the same car and that needs addressed. After five MINI’s - two factory ordered currently on the drive in a hatch and Clubbie I’m looking more at the new Retro Renault 5 electric as to me that looks brilliant and reminds me of the good old Renault 5 Turbos I grew up with.

    • @js-hl5hv
      @js-hl5hv Před 28 dny

      @SWR112 not true. The old f56 se is better to drive, actually faster (ignor the official figures), lighter, more efficient and cheaper. Oh, the new one goes further and wins in the ugly competition. I have owned many minis and MINIs, but unless there is a change, the f56 SE will be my last.
      Yes, I have driven the new SE. Take it from an f56 SE owner, it is not an upgrade. I wouldn't be an SE owner if this was the original car. 1605kg for a MINI is just stupid - and nobody who actually owns an EV cares about range. I would trade half the battery for 100kg any day. It goes far enough - I only charge once a week, why would I Need 240kg more batteries?

    Being a BMW I am sure it is really well engineered and it retains the Go Kart essence of previous generations. I was very impressed with the tech on the car I looked over in the showroom - graphics super clear and very responsive - but I would prefer to see a few more physical buttons/dials/switches. Mini partly redeem themselves by offering the option of a HUD which avoids the driver having to continually glance to the central screen. BUT I am struggling with both the exterior and interior design/styling. Without the black wheel arch trims the side profile looks slab sided and visually makes the car look a lot taller. Interior is too minimalist for my liking although the fabrics look good in the lighter colour options. Plastics are a bit scratchy and the overall interior quality is not as premium as the last generation - which TBH was outstanding for the class. Having looked at the new Renault 5 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed I thought it a better compromise between retro design (exquisite) and practicality. The interior may not be as futuristic as the Mini but it has excellent Google based tech and I think is more operator friendly. The Mini is also a bit pricey when spec’d up. SE Level 2 with metallic paint only a whisker under £40k.

    Petrol minis have a very poor track record on reliability. They pander mostly to the fashion conscious. The EV minis will continue this trend , few will buy them and remember there is no used market for EVs. With no supporting infrastructure and repairs not possible in most cases EVs have inevitably come to the end of the road.

    Who cares about what the trimming or the wheels look like when you have to reorganize your life around an EV! What matters in the end is how many people are going to be dumb enough to buy an EV. EVs suck, no matter how many songs of praise you sing.....
