Slightly unrelated, but does anybody else think the serpent hunter deserves legendary status more than the devourer's scepter? Like one weapon was literally created to kill a pagan god, with a wholly unique enchantment that only activates in its presence, but the other is just an artsy club. I don't think the devourer's scepter even has a backstory, it's just a staff that the volcano manor likes
No, it has a backstory
The weapon was crafted by Rykard shortly after being consumed by the great serpent
It was said that the design of the scepter was made as a landmark to Rykards ambitions, taking on the form of a premonition Rykard foresaw just before he was fully consumed by the snake. The vision for-told that the Great serpent would one day devour the world, this then started Rykards journey to devour all the power in the lands between through his Recusants.
The weapon represents Rykards ambition to devour the lands between hence its effects devouring the life-force of those around the user.
My reasoning for them not making the serpent hunter a legendary is because players might be annoyed one of the legendary weapons slots was being wasted by a weapon that is only good one fight. I just wish they let the serpent hunter keep its attack outside the rykard fight but nerf its damage a bunch

25:06 if you want the bubbles to be even better make sure to put on the oracle envoy hat as it will buff the bubbles even more
Placidusax, the king of dragons, basically a god. And his weakness is bubbles🤣
@@justclxxyand the wall, if you have good positioning you can make him fire his lasers into the wall like a big dumb dragon
@@justclxxy definitely a tangent but that’s the problem with physically huge enemies, idk why so many games have us fighting things 10000x our size. Just doesn’t feel right that we can take down a skyscraper at all but then the balancing issues make them even easier than the small opponents. It’s cool fighting massive creatures/dragons and all that but I’m conflicted because it’s been done by damn near every game at this point
the battle hammer was actually the very first weapon I invested into using back when the game first dropped and it was a reward for completing one of the Limgrave catacombs
I love how powerful great hammers feel. They feel even more powerful than colossal weapons to me
I believe that popular opinion is exactly that, that the colossal weapons don’t quite hit the mark making the class right below the best. Just what I’ve heard being said but I don’t know it super well because I’ve been primarily mage
Great Stars is my favorite great hammer by a long shot. It has bleed, health regen on hit, and all the high damage, poise, and poise damage that great hammers can provide. I see no downsides.
Looks metal af with blood flame blade on it as well! Also with the Prayerful Strike ash of War you do a tone of pancake damage and heal back a shit load of health so it seems like it pairs well with it as a big chunk heal. But loads of ashes work really well with that baby I just wish there was a non rusted version for fashion purposes as it would look better with some armor sets if it was gleaming xD.
The pickaxe being a great hammer means it has great hammer hyper armor on some attacks, so I think you can power stance and still maybe have the armor.
Still think that the anchor and pick should swap classes. Both for looks and for the ability to have a proper gh moveset with pierce.
not only that, it also gets the greathammer stamina damage against shields.
I like to use dual Rotten Battle Hammers when I help people against Malenia. It's always a big flex when you can watch the Godess of Rot having her flesh be consumed by the scarlet rot.
Overall my favorite greathammer for both PvE and PvP is the Great Stars, for multiple reasons.
Beastclaw Greathammer with offhand Cinquedea has to be my favorite setup for a str/fth build in the game xD
6:38 Freakin Vigor checked
Greathammers really are a Faith/Str weapon class so far. Maybe DLC adds an Int Ghostflame Hammer?
big hammer not smart
There is one that is infusible with good synergy for casters surprisingly. The celebrants skull.
Nearly the lowest stat requirements and near best base damage for elemental infusion.
This is bolstered by the fact that you can get the longer version of endurance on it. That let's mages try to have some appreciated safety on big spells.
If you don't want poise chill mist can proc cold very quick to help with damage on multi hit cells by reducing defences.
It also gives a slower poise breaking option in melee with some natural ha that can complement spells like slicer.
Lastly it's a big head on stick for you necromancers out there. It's funny and both ashes synergize well with your main projectile (the ranchor calls) or your big low range options (fias mist or ghost flame) depending on your choice.
Something to note on the Greathorn Hammer, it doesn't gain magic-scaling when frost-infused (still gets the appropriate frost-build up though) but has B strength- and C dex-scaling at +25, so it seems like a decent Quality weapon.
Something I just learned recently, if you infuse the Greathorn Hammer with cold it gets a B in strength, C in Dex, and NO scaling in int. You could make a strength focused cold build with pretty decent frost build-up
Waves of darkness has a follow up attack with the heavy attack input same with golden land
cranial vessel candlestand is my favorite weapon in this game. OP and unique bc NOBODY uses it
Try infusing a rotten battle hammer with heavy and then buffing it with rot grease if you want a higher proc number
Great video.
Have been really struggling with a build I haven’t done before and thought about giving up the game altogether as getting a bit bored of it. Then just did a Great Hammer Str/Int build with wave of darkness on the Great Mace and it was so much fun. It was on NG+2 though so I am gonna start a new game and build up to it.
FINALLY ive been waiting for your great hammer video for like 2 months now 😤
That guy with the draconic tree sentinel build was cool
I love watching mages get one shot.

@@zeno6554 **Most** Mages Suck, In PvP Or Co - oP. They Either Run Or Stay Behind There Silly Little Over Leveled Summon (Let’s Not Forget They Probably Don’t Level Vigor) So They Suck Pretty Simple.
Love greathammers, my favourite weapon class.
They really shine in pve though, huge poise damage is very useful.
I have a str/fth character called "so yes head?" Who uses the candlestand and carries the family heads flail just as decoration on my hip
Or you go further. Dual wield prelates candle stand while wearing nothing by the prelates helm.
To maximize effect minimize every character body slider to the greatest degree possible with a max size head in the mirror in fias room.
Giant mace will be perfect for my true knight only strength build.
With the Pickaxe, DS3 also had the same thing, and it does have the Greataxe move set and does thrust( Pierce) damage
I love the Rotten Battlehammer with Wild Strikes and bloodloss buildup, and the truste Powerstance dual Great Stars with Prelates Charge, ol reliable
Dual Blood Great Stars got me through ng+ to like,,, ng+5. It's such a good bleed build that self heals, fun times 😄

"Did not expect surprise bubble bath."
There is one great and tbh thematic use for the celebrants skull. Necromancer builds.
It's got very low stat requirements and has I nearly the highest base damage of any GH.
The reason this is great is that it's a nice poise breaker/ha source in melee for at low cost to the rest of your build while still hitting relatively well for its investment.
This synergy goes further since it has the heavy weapon version of endurance, the length of the ha is huge and will completely cover things like the ghostflame nuke.
I hold that while niche and not traditionally good when treated like other GH it is still a great compliment to a slept on play style
Waved of Darkness on Celebrants skull is awesome.
Also if you're tweaking weight for light rolling, Celeb skull is the lightest great hammer.
@@FurtiveSkeptical I still find the basically instant frost proc of freezing mist and prolonged poise and damage reduction more attractive for offence/utility respectively but I can see it.
Also could be generally fun on a grav spell build since you could flavor it in your head as a astell head.
@@samfish2550 Yeah, it's hard to beat freezing mist for freeze proc I certainly agree, I do use the cold variant of celeb skull/WoD for what it's worth. The hyperarmor/poise of waves of darkness can't be beat IMO, and the follow up R2 usually procs freeze if it hits.👍
@@FurtiveSkeptical true but I find that the short range of the skull makes hitting the follow up to rare compared to lance or other low stat hammers like great horn. It's not bad I just feel that there are more interesting options available for skull as a support school. That's why endure is my favored ash to run on it.
It is as close as we will get to poise casting like chimes had in ds3 and lasts long enough to let you safely get off spells like ghost flame and briars of sin. The former is why I like running it in ng+ necromancer builds. Both funny looks wise and capable of enhancing the functionality of some of your more potent but hard to land spell options.
@@samfish2550 Fair point. I just keep fist weapon with endure after my main wep ready on D-pad right with casting tool ready on left for that. (Ghost flame, noble presence, zamoran frostnado, death lightning when I feel silly) Heh, I really enjoyed poise casting in DS3...
Yeah I meant the poise some AoW have going in..... rarely do I get knocked out of the animation.
Yes, celeb skull is indeed shortest but you have to really get in on them when proccing the waves anyways, and the situation doesn't always call for the extra R2, sometimes it connects though.
Cheers.✌️
With buffs and two handing the beastclaw great hammer the ash of war can do 2k damage
There is 1 category left to examine they are: Spears(i didn't mention 10 other category which is 3 Bows category,Crossbows,Ballistas,Glintstone staffs,Sacred seals,Torchs and Tools that have 4 damaging item(Wraith calling bell,Omen bairn,Regal omen bairn,Ancestral infant's head) and there is shileds too if you count
The large club has a faster r2 when one handing but it feels like it has less poise
Recently did a cosplay build of Shao Khan from Mortal Kombat and my god using the battle hammer was so much fun although I did kinda struggle for a bit
Btw u cant get the duelist great hammer if you've already beat maliketh
Monk's recommendation for ED: 17:33
beastclaw greathammer isnt the only one with a built in true combo. estoc heavy into heavy feint, black flame ugs has so many, look at wazeuses vid for that, scythe 2nd r1 into 3rd, hal rr1 into offdagger sometimes, knights greatsword has like 3, unique hal moveset jr2 into r1, raptor talons r2 r2.
20:27
This entire sequence is so funny to me
Do you know waves of darkness has a follow up? It can true combo with the waves
I think perhaps the only reason that the pickaxe is in the GH class is it’s poise damage. Great Hammers have more poise damage than Greataxes, and so it’s likely that the pickaxe just has great hammer poise damage with all of it’s other characteristics making it seem just like a Greataxe. I have not actually checked the numbers though. Otherwise, maybe they classed it that way just because they strongly considered it to be a hammer more than an axe (ironic in light of the name). In all the Dark Souls games, the pickaxe was either a Hammer or a Great Hammer.
These damn CZcamsrs always forget about the waves of darkness follow up.
EVERY TIME
This was a great birthday present. Thank you, monk
I use prayerful strike on great stars and it just keeps my health up. Provided I have enough poise😎
6:48 is when I hit the like button lmfao. Ultra bonk
I've been WAITING for this one!
For the long horn I put 99 in faith 54 strength and 54 dexterity amazing damage with the bubbles and the physical damage is still good
Can't wait to see what DLC weapons they'll add. There better be an equivalent of the Boom Hammer from Bloodborne, but maybe with blackflame or something like that.
The question is if it would be a hammer or great hammer. I'd say hammer, especially if they give it the funny flame mace stomp heavy.
monk wakes up thinkin about big bonkers... damn
I wish we had a variant of the gyrm great hammer in Elden ring.
YES! I’ve been waiting for this video!
This is some serious Big Bonk Energy right here
Rotten battlehammer with bleed in pve and using cragblade for a charge attack build with crit is legit just so underused
Great stars always been my fav
It looks like Ash of Wars with tracking projectiles can always win a super laggy fight since the game aims them but the enemy cant dodge it.
Dude what armor are you using it looks badass
My fav is the great Star i Like the healing, the devourer is sadly to slow with his ash of War, as badass as it is, i love the Star more
Hell yeah, Monk PCs just dropped. Keep up the great work for more subs and sponsors!👍
imagine if the elden beast had golden land
Monk Do trying all great shields when you finish doing normal weapons please I would love to see it
I like this videos so much and something more important BONK
How are you able to change your stats for each weapon?
Larval tears
i thought there was a limited amount though
You can keep backups of your save file so you can go back to before you re-specced, or you can just mod in as many respec items as you want
0:06-adonks
The candlestick is honestly such an underrated weapon. Amazing damage on that ash in pvp and pve. Why don’t people use it more?
It's really good in pve and somtimes invasions, especially against multiple opponents but it's just way too slow and easy to punish in a 1v1
Yoo, love your channel!
I actually used a jump attack setup, two battle hammers with crag blade and oh my god it melts bosses and players
The pickaxe is one of those weapons that's in it's class on technicality alone. It isn't a greataxe because it's not an axe.
There's no chopping edge.
There's like one other technicality weapon but it escapes my memory atm
To be fair, the rusted anchor IS a greataxe, imo that and the pickaxe should be swapped, but either way it's nice to have a different damage type in these classes
@@flintlock37 fair point about the anchor, but I believe it only exists to give the pick a powerstancing partner. Also the pickaxe was a great hammer in every past game too
Wakizashi is the other
@@user-cy9vd7rl4h yeah! Thanks
Whats in store for us next week Mr Monk?

Great Hammers class got the Dark Souls 2 moveset syndrome
I can honestly appreciate that. It got all the best parts of the ds2 move set while keeping the sweep from ds3 to maximize the diversity of the move pool. Tbh having just finished my first ds2 playthrough I love the weapon swing patterns and want to see some (like Hyde Knight straight sword) return. They felt great and had lots of character.
Also I liked how weapon weight effected swing and recovery speed. Made less powerful lighter weapons still feel like they had a good use case other than just the extra stat load.
Have you even seen the bonefists moveset? It's a full on martial arts performance that does insane damage
You had the perfect opportunity to use chilling mist on the rusty anchor to say whoa shivers am I going to timber but you wasted it on a fucking hammer.
As a curved sword enthusiast, the curved great club is my favorite.
"Not to different from the great club"
How dare you, it has the most important of distinction. It's CURVED!
Guy with the Moonveil, prolly just destroying his whole room from being one-shot
Pickaxe supremacy
Ok. So they probably aren't the best for this but they are good enough and funny for it.... Dual wielded lightning infused horn hammers, at least one with lightning ram.
You can roll attack out of the ash wich gives you 2 front slams for if someone catch people trying to punish potentially off guard and more importantly the spin sweep for if they try to roll or run into you to kite you. Their moderate length makes them pretty good at this two.
Celebrants hammer is the only hammer in my book based on visual asthetics alone. Got one for every character for tunnel clearing.
It's pretty good on casters surprisingly. Low reqs and high base damage for elemental infusion. Plus it comes with the high status build, poise, and poise damage of normal GH.
- Playing a blood/thorns mage? Bam, now you can bleed and stagger people who get to close (plug the better endurance that the class gets can protect you on the thorn spells)
-playing a necromancer, chill mist to lower pve defense and make your multi projectile spells better or endurance to cover explosive ghost flame.
- Tired of playing as a mage who has to rune from melee, here's a slow pose breaker/HA weapon to complement slicer or lions claw anyone who gets cocky in the forehead.
Very underrated pairing. People shit on it for not being bonk enough, but those who do so limit the bonk.
They reject the true bonk, which is pulling random bullshit and laughing because they can bonk themselves. Bonk is love, bonk is life, bonk is yours....
*Bonk responsibly.
Pickaxe, Raptor of the Mist, Claw talismin, spear talismin
Of course when you run the magic pickaxe you run into full lionels PSS and BHS thrusting sword
Pickaxe with magic weapon and you now have Minecraft Dimond Pickaxe for your Steve build xD
I think the odd weapons are just fromsoft's way to add variety to the weapons. Another example is Wakizashi with it being a dagger but it not being able to powerstance with daggers instead with katanas. My only gripe with it is that Fromsoft shouldn't have limit the weapons capability to powerstance with their weapon category. Especially with Wakizashi there's literally no point powerstancing it with a Katana since it has dogshiit AR and Range compared to a normal and weakest Katana.
WE LOVE THE BRICK HAMMER IN THIS HOUSE!!!!!
On the pickaxe....trust me on this put lions claw on it and just watch the damage i did this to radagon in newgame+ 6 it did 3k damage

The great stars is legit one of the best weapons in the game.
Beastclaw Greathammer Supremacy 💪🗿
Nice job on the sponsorship!
Good video
Hear me out. Dual poison pickaxes. Poison mist offhand. Raptors mist mainhand. Counterattack talisman. Kindred of rot talisman. It shreds.
Or use one two handed on quality or heavy (whatever maxes your phys damage) paired with prayerful strike and spear talisman.
The damage will still be there, plus now it's mostly pierce and the heal isn't effected by your faith scaling so you can just bait some comical trades where you may potentially gain hp while the attackers nearly if not one shot.
@@samfish2550 tried this, one handed rollcatches are bad, hyperarmor good, but it doesn’t bait rolls like the other one
The great mace is the most "okest" weapon. Decent length, decent scaling, decent damage- nothing is really left wanting in terms of stats. And most of all, it is a decently chunky big bonk stick that is costume agnostic as possible. A lot of great hammers have the problem in that their appears has TOO much flavor. Large clubs look weird on normal knights, and you feel more pulled toward barbarians. Great stars honestly has a terrible rust texture on it, and it leans more towards "crazy murder" rather than paladin. And the ever powerful envoy longhammer....is the envoy longhammer. Compared to all that, Great Mace feels like you could use it for any costume, since it is just a nice sturdy bonk stick. It works on anything that might want a bonk stick.
“Decent scaling”
it has S scaling. It’s one of the highest STR scaling weapons in the game. It also excels on Occult getting B STR and B ARC scaling.
How good does it need to be to get higher than “decent”?
I like it on my banished knight mix set. Looks good, runs storm called well, and let's me channel the flavor of the armor set while still feeling like my own character. I've done the same with the Strom hawk talon and the knights twinblade.
(Tbh flavor set mixes are so fun, my favorite is probably crossing the champions hood, vike chest, eccentric gauntlets, and black Knight grieves with a flame warped axe and frenzy seal.)
I run it with wild strikes or endure as a frenzied berserker, left numb to all sensation, physical and phycological after they were burned away by the flame of frenzy.
It's good edgy, drippy, flavorful, and with basically quality scaling between str and faith on the axe and just..... The way frenzy spells work it hits like an absolute truck.
(If you want a better ash flame strike can literally oneshot in pvp at high level.) So much fire, golden vow also stacks with the scream buff in your final free slot which just goes really hard and lasts longer than flame grant me.
The moveset on hammers and axes really leaves a lot to be desired.
Honestly, I kinda miss how DS2 of all games had the most unique movesets per weapon class
Monk just only bonk
Nice video.
Why not use braggarts roar instead of barbaric roar?
Different R2, plus Braggart's boosts stamina regen.

Celebrant Skull opponent plays from russian region - thats why he's so laggy. Also his nickname means "Elden Ring is a F**king Sh*t" written by latin.
IDK why you need to know that, sorry? I like your videos they are Great and Bonkers (like hammers)
Giant Crusher is missing, it has an unique heavy i think.
It's a different class. They split up the idea of great hammers into great hammers and colossal weapons, colossal weapons being a catch all equivalent of what colossal swords are to great swords but for both both great hammers AND great axes also one great halberd.
@@samfish2550 Ah, i see, thx
