      +Drei88 i actually thought it was overrated. it was good, just not great or even fantastic

      underwaterlady that's a pretty vague and worthless criticism... What would have made it better, in your opinion.

      +Drei88 as personally I disliked the main characters, do if those were changed. also there were bits (particularly towards the end) where the story seemed to fall apart

      I do like how softly spoken he is... he should record audio books of bedtime stories, he'd rightly make a friggin killing.

    I've never heard him talk prior to this interview... the guys got such a cool and soft voice. he should narrate bedtime stories, he'd make even more money maaaaaaan.

    Nolan seems like a friendly but stern man. I hate that the media is trying to drag his name through the mud right now. He strikes me as a man who takes his work very seriously and his work style reminds me more of a traditional film maker like Kubrick, not like some come and go gimmicky directors. Sadly nowadays if you're not inserting off the cuff jokes into your films your called pretentious and arrogant.

    • @tactictoe
      @tactictoe Před 8 lety +6

      he seems serious in an incredibly professional manner. The guy is a conductor and orchestrator as well as a director.

      Apart from the regular "hate because popularity" I think there's something going on where some people after the Dark Knight hold him to such a ridiculously high standard that he's going to get a whole lot of hate for little flaws.

      I disagree, I think he makes films which are halfway between artistic perfectionist Kubrick type stuff, and typical loud Hollywood blockbuster. None of his films quite have the weight or depth of meaning a of a Kubrick, but they also have more action that Kubrick films, and a much closer focus on human character emotion than Kubrick. I think that Nolan-Zimmer is the modern version of Spielburg-Williams.

      @@ogbmt in my opinion, I think it’s the ability to have such intellectually stimulating and thought provoking movies that can be entertaining blockbusters at the same time is what puts him on such a high level, because he can satisfy both the critics and the viewers at the same time. He’s main influence for this believe it or not was Kubrick as well as George Lucas, he watched 2001 a space odyssey and loved how thought provoking and mind blowing it was even if you didn’t understand it and then watched Star Wars a new hope and loved how entertaining it was.

    it amuses me that Mark goes on about his appreciation and respect for Christopher Nolan at every relevant opportunity, but when it comes to the time to interview him he's nowhere to be found... IMO the show always works best when both Mayo and Kermode interview, a la Spielberg 2011!

    • @SuperBajack
      @SuperBajack Před 9 lety +1

      Its because Kermode is a critic and therefore might feel obliged to be tough on the Director. With Mayo, Nolan knows he'll get a free pass and it'll essentially be a promo for his film.

    "Mark insisted I ask you about celluloid."
    "Well, we'll always need it for storage."
    If they isn't the sound of a resigned man, I don't know what is :(. Nolan and a handful of other directors may have the cache to shoot on film for now, but it sounds like it's all over but the crying and even he realizes it :(. Wonder if the celluloid early releases of INTERSTELLAR made any waves? I got see it in 15-perf 70mm, it was breathtaking. With even IMAX phasing out their film projection, I have a nasty feeling that INTERSTELLAR may constitute celluloid's last stand :(.
