    Brought back memories. I had a retired plantation draft mule growing up in Hawaii. She was about 18 when we found her abandoned. Her ears were tremendously long and her hooves like dinner plates. A neighbor named her Tomato. Great animal for kids. My dad felt we were safe with her in the fields and never get lost. She only allowed us an hour ride. She would turn around and take us back to the house, get her tack removed, and I would walk her back to the pasture a mile away. Occasionally she would be taken to work with the rest of the plantation mules (normal size) and after an hour she would take off back to the pasture dragging her handlers and still wearing her pack of seed cane. When a dam broke and flooded the pasture, she pulled the wire fence down and saved all the mules. Came up to the house to let us know she had no place to go. It was a great experience.

    The only thing lacking here is a random NPC appearing outta nowhere, locking eyes with you and says. "Your coin or your life." And then bumps into your mule, walking forward but moving sideways at the same time, keeping eye contact with you all the while, his head spinning as he walks. Then falls over a rock and dies, and somehow an Imperial guard appears to declare that you've violated the law and must pay in blood.

    • @tylergraves4694
      @tylergraves4694 Před 4 lety +32

      Somnorila they certainly do haha, but it also depends on the personality of the animal. I worked in the mountains for a few summers, handling and riding horses getting them ready for use by the BSA. We had one chap named Joker, he was an EXTREMELY opinionated horse. He would often go wherever he pleased and would give me the “fuck off mate” signals when me or anyone attempted to mount him.(tail sway, ears cocked stomping etc.) eventually he mellowed but F me it was a daunting task.

    • @andrewince8824
      @andrewince8824 Před 4 lety +22

      It depends on the horse/mule/donkey. Some are great and work with you, others (A Welsh Section C/Shetland Cross I used to ride) are complete bastards. Riding Daisy, the Shetland cross, was more like being taken hostage and pleading to spare your life if she agrees to take your leg. Jake, my one true love, was a Shire/Irish Cob cross. Riding him was almost dangerous in it's pleasure, one could easily forget one was riding. Sadly he's no longer with us but I'll always remember our hacks together with my mother riding Shannon, an Irish Cob, had to be done as those boys were inseparable.

    • @ChipNRat
      @ChipNRat Před 4 lety +18

      @@somnorila9913 Horses, Mules, and other animals it's definitely a negotiation. When wandering around, if they don't want to go somewhere, they absolutely won't. However, that's why as a rider/trainer/companion, you have to gain their trust and likewise they have to gain yours. They learn to understand that you won't lead them into danger or that if you do that you'll protect them, and likewise you learn to trust their instincts when they tell you "no, I won't go there". Unlike a car or other motorized vehicle, they can build a level of trust that goes both ways, as opposed to a single-direction, and you can learn to read their expressions.

      Andrew McNamara Hope your dog does OK. My cat (and long-time companion) got very ill with pneumonia during this lockdown. I had to take him to the vet in a cat carrier, hand him out through the window, sit in the car, and eventually get him back with medicine. He was given a complete examination and a shot, but I was not able to see any of it. The vet called me on my cell phone afterwards and explained what she did. It was very strange not to be able to go into the office with him.

    • @Miolnir3
      @Miolnir3 Před 4 lety +4

      Yes, Rocinante is Don Quixote's horse. Sancho rides a donkey in the original story not a mule (maybe in english translations it is a mule, who know why) and he calls it by his fur color, not by his name (the name of the donkey, if it has any, is never said in the book) and in spanish horse breeding tradition they don't use stantard color names (except black and white) but instead they have words for every posible combination, most of them centuries old and unique unlike any common word, so they often say things like " go and fetch me my _ruano_ " (or any given fur color) so you know immediatly that is a horse/mount, and which one the person wants if he owns more than one (the spanish equine coat color system was unique in this sense until modern breeding got kind of standardized worldwide)
      In the case of Sancho's donkey, he calls him _"el rucio"._ This fur color corresponds to a dirty beige tone with interlaced gray hairs. So the more aproximate translation to _el rucio_ would be "the brownish" or more precisely "the dun".
      (the dapple is not exactly the right fur, but oh well, is acceptable)

He's as attentive as ever, and I noticed that he seems to be mouthing a lot less than when you first got him - I guess the bit situation is finally sorted.
