This video is all about the pelvis! So important to figure drawing, but also quite a complicated shape. The anatomy police are going to arrest me for this one! We are going to bypass all the complexity of the pelvis and just take some easy ideas that still give us most of the drawing benefits.
Anatomeasy is a series of tutorials I'm starting about the anatomy of different areas of the figure. A lot of the wonderful books and guidance out there about anatomy for artists is comprehensive and therefore quite complex! That's a hard place to start. So I want to help you get started by seeing the things that really matter the most.
0:00 The 80/20 rule
1:36 Find the angle of the pelvis
5:44 Check the tilt
7:17 Check the rotation to your eyes
8:15 Remember the pelvis is a rigid mass

I maybe wrong in this but what I really like about pelvis is that the shape of it doesn't change much. It doesn't inflate or deflate like ribcage, it doesn't bend like the spine, it doesn't twist like arm. So I can use pelvis as the reliable starting point.
If you are good and know something of anatomy thats not wrong, In fact that is the purpose of the structures, I for the pelvis I have to make a trapezoid which for each angle is another figure, but if with a circle or whatever you can draw then it is fine, since it is not mandatory to even use structure, only beware of anatomical errors such as characters that have the torso above the legs, It is a common mistake since the characters are like Roblox or Minecraft
I hope you see this:
So I am a young artist who didn't understand learning that much
Two years ago, more like 5, I watched a channel called zhc. I got inspired to draw so much, and wanted to look good, so I copied a superhero landing, and showed it off in a home made drawing competition at a youth center. I drew the superhero landing Spiderman pose, and the other guy from the competition laughed.
So that's where I started off, using his negativity as a motive to get better. Two years pass, and still inspired by zhc, stumbled upon his 3 books video, got a Michael Hampton book, and started to copy his gestures daily, sometimes finished process sketches with no direction. Hard to explain.
I did that for two years, and here I am , having learned nothing.
I am sad that I've wasted two years.
The good thing is that I've stumbled upon your list of skills pdf, and FINALLY IMPROVING! Right now, working on the angles, because I drew so many people back then, have a pretty good sense of proportion, because of Michael hampton, I know where to look for The muscles.
Anyway, for gesture, all I had to do was think through angles. I wish I could show you my gesture drawing I did, seeing through the angles and the landmarks. I have wasted so much time, and thanks to you I found the holes of my skills so far.
I'm bad at explaining things, but if you read anything from this,
thank you
You really helped me
If only I could show you my gesture drawing :)
AWESOME! Happy for you, mate!
If you enjoyed drawing, then those 2 years weren't wasted at all. Also, where can I find the skill list PDF you mentioned?
The way you break things down has been so helpful and the pelvis pants idea has made a big difference for me... as someone who can get bogged down in details the way you can cut to the essence of things is fantastic!!! Love your work🤗
Thanks Judy!
Appreciate your note of "it's the most efficient thing to know about gesture and figure drawing".
We always feel like we might miss a sensitive information
Always thankful to your vids in figure drawing , no such a teacher would explain them this way ♥️
Best of luck
As someone trying to study anatomy, here is my PERSONAL perspective. Its about 70/30 for me. Learning deep anatomy has been super useful in every area of my fogure deawing and drawing in general. It teaches your eyes to be sensitive to every detail which allows me to choose what to draw more precicely. However most of what you’ll get out of anatomy you do get from the first 30-odd percent I feel
The pelvis area was difficult until this video. I appreciate that you are sharing helpful information.
Very useful, thank you!
This is the kind of content that keeps us coming back. Thanks!
You should get Nobel prizes in art and engineering for the Pelvis Pants™, plus at least one in literature for coining that name.
Where do I nominate you?
The video was very helpful btw, thanks.
Thank you! I also believe pelvis pants deserves the Nobel
awesome as always!
Best channel ever
Please don’t stop making these lessons
As always, you explain things in simple terms with great graphics. Thanks Kenzo and I'm looking forward to the fresh eyes challenge to help me move forward.
I love the idea of the pelvis pants, thank you so much! I have never liked the pelvis box idea, but this one is gold! So helpful 💖
Excellent synopsis. Practical and useful information for pelvis orientation while drawing. TY
You’re a life saver! Thank you so much for these videos!!!
i used to confuse the obliques with the asis points. great video
Clear and helpful lecture. Encouraging!
Those pants are so much more intuitive. I always struggled when drawing the pelvis as a box like I see it in so many other anatomy tutorials
Thank you so much! I've been studying pelvis anatomy recently and this is a life saver.
I've been struggling so much with making my figures look dynamic, countless videos watched - this one coupled with the ribcage video explains it so well, I'm drawing the best figures I ever have instantly! Thanks so much!
These videos of anatomy made simple are so good.
Fantastic advice on the pelvis! I work as an art teacher and this will for sure make teaching my classes a lot more effective.
Its only been a few minutes since watching these videos and I can already see a huge difference in my work . I shall keep studying and working smart. The way you explain things is life changing. THANK YOU!
Thank you for this my man!
My prayers have been answered! Yay!
Also happy new year
Your videos have helped me so much, thank you!
Simple and informative, Thank You
Good stuff, thanks!
Love the tutorial... So much info shared so clearly and non too ambiguous.. Thanks most of the videos are so confusing they actually don't come down two the student level..
Amazing tutorial
You are the Colin Farrell of art.
Thank you very much for all your content, it is really gold!!! 🙌🙌
Really excellent explanation and explication. You make beautiful clarifications of difficult material.
Beautiful video
You are amazing! Thank you so much❤
Muchas gracias por este video, cambió por completo mi forma de ver la anatomía, principalmente de la pelvis que es lo que más me cuesta ubicar al hacer un dibujo. 💗
Thank you! 5 stars IMHO
fundamental lesson! Very useful
On day 8 of the 10 day challenge you have on your membership site, Kenzo. Great buildup for learning and practice. Thanks very much.
Ah the pelvis my worst enemy. I can never seem to get it right
Well that and hands
yeah, can relate :D
Hope the vid helped :) I have similar level of simplification for hands coming later in the year
Pure Gold
Magnificent, Kenzo. Got a lot out of that.
Awesome, thanks :D
This is one of your best presentations, thank you!
Thanks a lot for your video! Could you make a lesson about the middle section between the pelvis and the ribs? This is very difficult, especially when the body is moving strongly)
The Anatomy Police is sure to get you Kenzo!! 😀 Loved this video. You are the best teacher. I am going to do the Fresh Eyes challenge once again!
See you there Sandhya!
Nice video 👍
Love these videos! Found your ribcage explanation video very eye-opening. do you have tips/plans for breaking down the relationship between the ribcage and pelvis? I find that connecting them is a struggle
That is a big part of the fresh eyes challenge :)
debating whether or not to use a box or the pelvis pants.
Thank you for simplifying! This is a good addition to Proko's tutorials about the Robo Bean :). Now I combine the Pelvis Box (Robo Bean) with your Pelvis Pants when I construct figures.
I do wonder, on what height do you position the navel with respect to the ASIS points?
I like the pelvis pen and the ribcage idea because I have done plenty of those, but never really commited to it. I'm gonna commit
I’ve seen in a lot of concept art how they exaggerate the legs at the knees to be going in the other direction, but I didn’t know it was actually to model like in 8:08 that’s actually really cool to see!
sir do you have similar video on hands!
Helpful! Helpful! Helpful!🙃🙃🙃
finally!!! the pelvis!!!
Hi, Kenzo. I really enjoy the quality of library photos, but seems that not all of it available on LLD site. Do you have any plans to make all photos available for drawing purposes for some one payment subscription, smith like Croquis Cafe does? I will be the first one:) and thanks for all the tips and knowledge that you r sharing with us❤
Hey Anastassiya! We release a new photoset every month in the free library, and we do one every week for our study group. We might add a references only subscription or something in future :)
Does anyone know exactly where I should start as a beginner? I want to eventually get to drawing fanart, but I'm prepared to do a lot of studying and practising realism, perspective, gesture drawing etc. in order to get there. I'm just overwhelmed, it seems like there's so much to learn and I have no idea where I should focus at the beginning
You’re gonna study regardless because that’s what you want to do. Just draw the pictures you want, you’ll improve. Do not think you have to constantly study and improve or you’ll stress out and burn out. You got this.
This dude almost looks like the almighty Monk of drawing
"I have an youtube channel with a video about the pelvis" ... that is called only fans
8:25 oh so that term "box" in the phrase that says "i'm gonna destroy that box" possibly originated from artists doing figure drawings?? hmm
Pelvis Presley...
Sorry, it was stronger then me, thanks for effort and tips, of course :)
love this. but also i didnt know uncle roger could draw!
Sorry, I missed last night, the 23rd (my birthday!)
Yeah, the math checks out. 90% easier. :)
Hehe thanks Irma!
Мужики, слушайте! Василий Алибабаевич дело говорит😁
I honestly draw a pear of pants
Ok but what if I want to draw a skeleton?
Calling it Pants make it so much more simple finding those points on some figures had me lost
learning this for free feels illegal.
that big claim at the start turned out to be true
This is false advertising. I tried it and it only made drawing easier by 8 - 8.5 X easier
daddy🥴
