    Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen! Here we have a Prairie G30 Belt Drive Bench Grinder that I saved from the metal recycling yard a few months ago. With the recent power outages, I thought this is the perfect time to give this one some love.
    I could not find any info on the tool history, If you know something about this tool/company I will gladly use your info and update the video description accordingly.
    Thank you for your time!

    Great work!! As always!! I would say go ahead and do the 5hp Briggs. That would be great to see it run and look great and a firm foundation for the equipment.

    You know, I think my grandfather had one of those engine powered bench grinders a long time ago, way before I was born (early to mid 80s). It used a 5 HP Briggs engine like your setup there. I'm not sure he used it much though. It collected dust over the years, and was finally sold from a yard sale my parents had back in the late 90s. I hope the person who bought it either restored the thing, or possibly just used the engine for another project. Oh well, it went to good hands for sure.
    Yes please, restore that Briggs engine in your next video. I'd be delighted to see that!

      The red Briggs will be next, I have been itching to do another engine restoration.

    A fine job. Though it seems like those bearings slide into the housing a bit too easily. For wire brushing and polishing, it should be fine, but if you run grinding wheels on it, it will be annoying for sure!

  • @muba1192
    @muba1192 Před 11 měsíci

    There is a left hand and a right hand thread. For the rotation direction you use, the left hand to the left side, the right hand to the right side. Unfortunately, you have mixed it up. 😉

  • @minimal28
    @minimal28 Před rokem +2

    My apologies - I see that the 'mop' side did indeed have a left hand thread. - isn't this on the wrong side though if you want the spin to be downwards at the front?

    Great restoration, but I would question why you would paint the pulley shaft, and you spray painted one of the bearings. I don't understand that at all! And, shouldn't you have put the pulley belt on before installing the shaft? ;) Other than that...nice job.

    • @AJRestoration
      @AJRestoration  Před rokem

      The paint prevents rust pretty well, also I like the shaft painted, it adds extra contrast. That were the old bearings I used as a shield when I painted the main part of the tool, in the assembly you will see I used brand-new (unpainted) bearings. Yes, the tool has to be partially disassembled to insert the v-belt. I did the vbelt in the test, and the end result looks better to present without the vbelt in place, making for a better before and after result.
