Alex Gitter YES! You must listen to the final finished version on the “Let It Be” album.
Sir Paul McCartney wrote this in memory of his mother who died of breast cancer when he was a teen. When he was born n such pain and despair over his mother’s illness, she would comfort him by telling him to “let it be. Everything will be alright. For him to not grieve and live his life” He also lost the love of his life, his wife, Linda to breast cancer as well and the deaths of his best friends, John Lennon to murder and George Harrison (the Beatles guitar player whom Paul considered his little brother) died of cancer as well.
He sings this at every concert to pay homage to them and to lift up his audience for their own personal losses.
Sir Paul is a treasure incarnate.
Bob Dylan has said that the only musician he truly admired and was jealous of was Paul McCartney for his seemingly easy way he can write melody and write songs throughout nearly 6 generations of old, young, and for those not yet born who will love The Beatles for the finest musicians a band could have. ♥️

At that time, nearly every genre of music was blooming.
With so many fantastic artists, we were blessed by the sheer amount of choices available to us.

The 65 to 85 was the best. From the Beattles and the Beach Boys to the Stones and the Animals. Don't forget early Motown with Diana Ross and the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations and more. I loved everyone from The Who to Elton John to, Sly and the Family, Parliament, Earth Wind and Fire, Also great folk music like Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell, Carol King and Crosby Stills Nash and Young. I even think there was some great Disco music like The Commodores,, Kool and the Gang, etc. The 70s produced also so many great bands. Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, The Clash. I could go on and on. Definitely explore that era.

Interesting how this song came to be! John Lennon has just told the band that he is done. He is going solo. Paul McCartney is so shook up over this, he is depressed and wondering how life will be without the Beatles. One night he is laying in bed and he hears the voice of his mother. She tells him to let it be, everything will be ok.

The Beatles are the absolute pioneers of much of modern rock and pop music. They have influenced artists all over the world, and artists all over the world have covered their songs, hundreds of times. John Lennon and Paul McCartney, two of the band members, wrote nearly all their original songs, and sang the bulk of them, too. The other two band members, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, wrote and sang some, as well. There is no one else like them. Try listening to and reacting to "Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", "All You Need Is Love", "Revolution", and their iconic early live performances on the Ed Sullivan Show. They also made a few popular movies, "A Hard Day's Night" and "Help!" being the best, both loaded with their songs. You won't be sorry!

It's real cool to see someone listening to and enjoying the Beatles for the 1st time after so many decades ago. The first song or time I got into the Beatles was listening to their song "If I Fell" when they aired their movie on TV. I couldn't have been more than 6 years old. I sat close to the TV and my mom turned it up when she saw that I stopped playing with my toys and moved closer to TV so I could listen. I never forgot that moment in time.

The Beatles opened the door to the British Invasion. Where you hear Queen, the Who, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd , Supertramp and so many others.
When Paul is talking about Mother Mary he is referring to his own mother Mary who died when he was a teenager. He used to ask her for advice, when he was troubled. John Lennon also lost his mother as a teenager. There is a song called Julia he wrote for her, and his oldest son Julian is named after her. So glad to see you enjoying the Beatles! Try A Day in the Life very interesting song filled with changes in tempo and rhythm.

I grew up in the 60's and 70's, the music was pure, heartfelt songs, not like today's music. I actually stopped listening to the music in the late 80.s, I couldn't understand it, yelling, screaming, it gave me a headache, I still listen to this kind of music, my generation. My 18-year-old grandson will call and ask me about certain songs and I'm more then happy to answer his question. If I remember right, the Beatles only lasted 7 years then they broke up.

I believe music can bring people together especially when you may not otherwise have much in common. I don’t know if you ever learn what each song is about before you react but it’s nice to at least know what year they wrote it or sang it so you can understand what the atmosphere was like in the world at that time. Pretty cool! Love when you play Zeppelin!! My favorite band of all💕

You know me and the backstories to songs that I know there are back stories too.lol
First, a lot of people think this is John Lennon's song but is actually Paul McCartney's song. People also think that he is talking about Jesus' mother Mary but he is not.His mother's name was Mary
In 1968 or around that time Paul was going through a difficult time. The Beatles either were in the middle of making an album or just finished it. The Beatles started having problems within the group and he thought they might be breaking up, he was drinking, doing drugs, going to clubs. He was the only one in the band not in a committed relationship. Here is a quote of what he used to think when he would wake up “Good job I woke up just then or I might have suffocated.”
One night he had a dream about his mother who died when he was 14 years old. She was a nurse, and very hardworking because she wanted the best for her children. They were not a well-off family- we didn’t have a car, we just about had a television - so both of my parents went out to work, and Mum contributed a good half to the family income. At night when she came home, she would cook, so we didn’t have a lot of time with each other. But she was just a very comforting person in his life. After she died he could not remember what her face looked like very easily. In the dream she said the words LET IT BE. The Dream happened 10 years after her death. He also said It was lovely. I woke up with a great feeling. It was really like she had visited me at this very difficult point in my life and gave me this message: Be gentle, don’t fight things, just try and go with the flow and it will all work out. He went over to the piano immediately and started writing. “When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me”… Mary was my mother’s name… “Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.” There will be an answer, let it be.” It didn’t take long. I wrote the main body of it in one go, and then the subsequent verses developed from there: “When all the broken-hearted people living in the world agree, there will be an answer, let it be.” Not very long after the dream he got with his wife Lindaand he said it is as if his mom sent Linda to him.

Whilst everything else is true, as a Beatles nerd, this is literally the first time I have ever encountered the concept of people thinking 'Let it Be' is a Lennon song. I have never heard this from anyone, ever. The fact that you say that "a lot of people' think this is Lennon's song makes me consider the possibility that you live in another dimension altogether as I have NEVER encountered anyone say that. Me hearing you say that is like hearing someone say "First, a lot of people think 'Imagine' is a Paul McCartney song but it's actually a John Lennon song"i.e. something nobody has ever said. I'm not criticising you by the way, I am just utterly bewildered by that statement - as though people mistakingly thinking that Lennon wrote 'Let it Be' when actually it was McCartney is such a widely held mistaken belief that you presented it as a "Did you know" factoid in the same 'famous widely-held mistaken beliefs' ballpark as "Did you know in Empire Strikes back, Vader never says 'Luke, I am your father' but actually says 'No, I am your father?'". Please, I want to know, where have you heard that people think 'Let it Be' is a Lennon song.

"Mother Mary" is Pauls mother who died when he was young. She came to him in a dream. Paul was troubled over things going awry in his life from problems in the band to problems in his personal life. Paul said that his mother stood over him and just said; "Let it Be, things will be alright". Kinda gives me chills.

As it was, I do remember singing n dancing to Yellow Submarine. I think I was about 2 or 3, but I DEF rem it. It used to come on the radio n my mom told us time after time that I knocked the radio off the sh e lf it was on, like all the time. Lol I guess I was BORN a rocker. 1961!!! YEAH! I've always loved The Beatles. I can't ever know any time when I wouldnt. As a mof, when I was preggers with Mt 1st-born, we went to Central Park with my big sis (yeah, a whole 11.5 months older. Lol) n we saw n heard Simon & Garfunkel. She's STILL an all-around music liver. I don't think she's ever heard a genre she doesn't like or love! My sister is late with us now. I'm sure she's always with me n her 1st niece.

I am glad you like it. Ironically, this isn't even the official version. This was a practice take, before the final recording. There are two officially released versions of this song. There was the version released as a single, and the version that was on the album Let It Be. The differences between those two versions are slightly different backing vocals and a different guitar solo, but both are probably 30% better than this version. I prefer the album version.

Now I was only five when it was released, but I heard it played on the radio years after. There was a purity, a simplicity, and yet a majesty to this song. I hate to sound like the typical, "Oh you don't know what music was" sort of person that crops up every generation. But the reality is that everything is so "auto-tuned" and manipulated now that you can't really appreciate what it was like to listen to the radio in the 60s, 70s. or even the 80s and hear music that wasn't calculated down to the nearest cent. For example, here's some of the songs released that same year: Ain't No Mountain High Enough; Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head; I'll be There; War; Bridge over Troubled Waters; and American Woman to name a few. The diversity of music is amazing. And something sadly, you don't get a lot of today.
As to the Beatles, they were geniuses. When consider what they produced in the short amount of time they were together, when you consider how they evolved and experimented with new sounds and new ideas, when you consider how their experimentation led to other groups having the power to try new things, it is really amazing.

Nice reaction. This almost sounds like a mono recording. The later stereo version is even more emotional and the harmonies highlights Paul's vocals better. A one of the best things about the Beatles was they were never afraid to experiment. To hear that listen to Revolver.

The story behind the song: Sir Paul McCartney mother used to say ( whenever Paul was having troubles) to let it be. Meaning the troubles would work themselves out any everything would be ok. When she passed Paul was having a rough time and one night she came to him in a dream saying let it be. He wrote the song the next morning. Aslo see James Cordon carpool Karaoke with Paul McCartney he talks about it

JB - As wonderful as live performances are, please treat yourself to Studio versions so you get to hear the genius of the artists and the way they intended them to be heard. You will be exposed to masterful effects that are amazing considering the limited technology available at the time. Queen and The Beatles were wizards in the studio. Take care and enjoy your journey.

Beautiful song. I always thought "Mother Mary" meant the Blessed Virgin Mary, but Paul McCartney said it was his own mom, Mary McCartney, who came to him in a dream. Mary died when Paul was 14. ... Just for your own listening, here are some more Beatles songs you might like, including one from each of the four Liverpool lads on lead vocals.

Dude, talk to some folks you know that are 50 and over. They can put you on to some awesome music. The 60’s, 70’s and 80’s were awesome musical decades. The British Invasion, Motown, New Wave and pop.
    I recently saw a t-shirt that said...
“ I may be old but, I saw all the cool bands.” It’s very true. If you like blues try Led Zeppelin, everybody classifies them as heavy metal but they’re so much more. Listen to the smooth sexiness of Lou Rawls baratone voice or the happy songs of K.C. and The Sunshine Band. Young people today missed some of the coolest times in our history. I wish I could take folks your age back in time to the 70’s and 80’s. It was just a cool time to be alive in America.
    God bless.
