    Lovely car as is the MK5. I have owned a MK5 Pirelli edition for over 8 years and really don’t want to part with it. They do everything well

    These were sold In New Zealand and my wife was lucky enough to purchase one just under a year ago. No leather, 510 stereo though which is good.

      Thats very kind of you. I'm 47 years old, been driving 24 years (VW as first car and never deviated away from VW Group), been writing about them for magzines nearly same amount of time and buying and selling them for a living for 17.5 years. Pleased to be able to share my experience. Also pleased everyday is still a school day as the cars keep changing

    "Flows with the road" pretty much is my own personal opinion aswell! 👍
    Despite being old & 40 now,I've owned my Candy White 3 door Edition 35 for just shy of a year & it makes me smile alot & even when it's parked up! 😁
    I test drove the manual & opted for the far superior DSG in the end & love how the exhaust farts (DSG only) when you stick it in sports mode...Which is alot & only for the noise! (said that bit for legal reasons) 🤣
    I'm still pretty pleased with the performance in standard form & had a couple of faster beasts (V8 S4 saloon & Avant) in the past & considering i get 28mpg average with the GTI,It's more than twice the fun & double the 14mpg i got with the V8's! 😉👍

    Another genuine car, with a genuine review. It's really good to see a car that hasn't had thousands of pounds spent on upgrades, but is simply factory spec to give a more original drive which in turn gives a more helpful review.

    The only complaints I had with my mk6 R was the steering rack felt really long, and needed a lot of input in a bend. The mk7 has definitely improved on this.

    I've got a choice between a 2012 edition 35 48k miles and mk7 2013 standard stock 35k miles both same price. Anyone advise which I should go for?
    Love the look of the 35ed but I read the mk7 is such a big improvement. Can't decide and have to sharpish..
    Great video too. Making me lean toward the 35

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před 6 lety +3

      If you are going to tune, definitely the Ed 35. The modernity of the Mk7 appeals but it would depend on the spec. 19" and no DCC is too firm for me, I'd want heated seats and in the Mk7 navigation as it's hard to retrofit (dead easy in Mk6).

    • @gingerbreadman5265
      @gingerbreadman5265 Před 6 lety +3

      personally i do like the look of the mk6 outside better but the mk7 is a much better interior to be in BUT id still go for the mk6. MK7 gti's seem very common mk6 gti is a rare (ish) car and the edition 35 is VERY rare i can count on both hands the amount of times iv seen them on the road in 6 yrs. same story with the R we see mk7 Rs everywhere yet the mk6 r we never see, can imagine the mk6 R to shoot up in value in years to come. But back to your question id 100% go with the ed35 very good all round car PLUS you get the good old TFSI unit much more reliable than the TSI units.

      Gary Simkins I drove a MK7 GTI DSG & bought a MK6 Edition 35...The MK7 felt big in comparison to the MK6,But i did prefer the soft leather steering wheel on the MK7...But coping fine with the Edition 35's & also happy I've only ever seen another 1 on the road in the trouble free year I've had mine which is a definite + point IMO! 😉👍

      Mk6 every time. Mk7 has so many more silly electrical gubbins that cost a fortune when they go wrong. Do you need an electric handbrake? How about a radar sensor that controls the distance between you and an object in front, and will brake automatically? No? Well tough, you're getting it and paying ££££ whe it does wrong

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před 6 lety

      Hi Darren, thanks for commenting and especially for subscribing 👍 GTI PP is great car, Mk5 and Mk6 are also good but in different ways - you probably don't need both and as you already have a newish car, I'd just buy the best Mk5 you can as, for the moment, they are free of the modern classic tax that has hit a lot of other nice fast VWs. Good luck 👍

      volkswizard you're welcome. I own 2 mk3 Anniversaries both 16v. I'll be looking to sell one in the near future. As I don't have the space to keep them. The mk4 Anniversary prices are all over the bit atm. I hope the clubsport S come down to an affordable price in a few yrs then I'd be happy to buy one.

    I live in California and the edition 35 I had came with the 2.0 TSI motor in it. Loved that car but had to get rid of it. How much power does that 3.5 make? Still turbo I hope. I have now aquired another 2 door MK6 but miss the 35th edition styling. Still love it!

    We love our 35, one thing i dont like is the window seals creak really badly, the dealer just sprays a silicone product on them but what Concerns me is the stiffness or lack of of the body, any thoughts or insights?

    HI there, can you give me an idea please how long the coil packs would normally last on an edition 35 ? I have 86,000km from new and possibly a highway speed misfire. Would you look at coil packs first ?

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi, yes I would look at coils first. Some can last for ever, some can fail sooner so for the cost it's not worth looking at anything else first. You need to do a VCDS diagnostic scan and check for fault codes. If there are none you need to check misfire detection to see if any cylinder is logging more than the other. If it is, swap the coil to another cylinder and check again. If the misfires move to another cylinder, replace the coil pack. It would be wise but not essential to replace all 4.

    Hide the speed limiter when your going fast, otherwise you can get yourself in to trouble.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před 6 lety +5

      Hi Danni.Vlogs, thanks for the tip. We didn't exceed the speed limit in this clip, the speedo may have crept over but using GPS we knew the exact speed the car was covering which was within the limit for the road. Thanks for the advice though :)

    I think you need to skip generations with Golfs from the Mk5 onward. Skip the Mk6 and get a Mk7.5 then Skip the Mk8 get a Mk9 you'll appreciate the evolution more that way. Just my Opinion
