Royal Cremation in Ubud, Bali 2013

Some highlights of the royal cremation in Ubud which took place in May 2013. The entire event is a visual feast; the bull sarcophagus, in which the body is burned, is particularly spectacular. Royal cremations like this are elaborate affairs which take weeks of preparation by people in the local community. On this occasion it rained, which somehow added to the drama of the occasion. What a send-off!
