    This is a really great video demonstration. The best I’ve seen. I needed a real in-depth comparison for a band environment and you demonstrated everything I could have questioned. For the money I think this is a no brainer. One thing I also discovered is that if you are recording a full show, the recording file stays intact and un interrupted unlike a GoPro that splits your files into segments every 15 minutes (in the middle of songs). A plus for musicians.

    mate, i've been watching videos and reading articles about the canon 50mm lens all day trying to get an idea of its field of view (we're in lockdown so no option to go into a store to try). you just answered my question - at about 15:30 you say "it's about six feet away" Bingo! i've been seeing all these technical reviews and comparisons with other lenses etc but they never say or show how close or far you need to be to get the results. now at last i can visualize what i'll get if i'm at the other end of the room. or if i knock a hole in the wall and stand at the other end of the next room.........

    Hello, Jason (alias, Contrabass Conversations)...Happy 4th of July! What a great review of the Q2n-4k. I was very impressed with your enthusiasm for this video cam and, after watching both of your reviews, I decided to try one. That was last week and everyone was completely sold-out! I was put on a waiting list and was notified yesterday that more were in-stock...great! Mine should be here next week. As a musician, I'm creating a CZcams Channel of my own and I have a couple of technical questions for you. I'm not at all very tech-savvy when it comes to web-cam, conferencing, etc. but my 17-year-old son has helped me with recording, editing, and posting my videos. Most of what I'm doing currently is solo Jazz guitar arrangements on an iPad. The tools I've learned to use for editing consist of iMovie, Scroll Credits, and YT Studio. One question I have for you is - are these tools usable on my new Mac Book Air? I've had it for a year now and am not sure how to edit my recordings with the Q2n-4K using my Mac Book. As far as I know, I can't transfer my Zoom recordings to an iPad for editing nor, most likely, would I want to. Can you help me? Also, for straight-out recording, it seems that the Q2n-4K is totally sufficient without the use of external mics, etc. in order to give me the improved quality that I'm looking for...just recording - plain and simple. Once again, great job on your very helpful and informative reviews! Please, check-out my channel if you get the chance. Thanks, Jason!

    Awesome video, thank you! I own and operate a music school with well over 400 students and at the moment due to the pandemic we are completely shut down and I have many students requesting online lessons. I have been researching so many camera options and the zoom Q2N-4K seems to be the best bang for the buck, especially because of the audio quality. Unfortunately, there aren't many video reviews about this camera and all the ones I have watched were all plugged in with the USB when it came to using it as a camera for video conferencing. I researched a little more and found out that you can use the micro hdmi, and not mini hdmi by the way... that's a completely different cable, so I went ahead and ordered a bunch of these cameras anyway and I am waiting in anticipation for them to arrive. I would love to see you review this camera plugged in through the micro hdmi. THANKS!

    I have the earlier non-4K version of the Q2N. I really like it as a basic device for getting decent audio recordings.
    Flare is awful if you leave off the lens hood, but no problem with it on.
    I was very disappointed with battery life at first. But I bought the (overpriced) optional battery pack which fits the camera very neatly and provides an additional 4 batteries worth of power. I also switched to high capacity (Panasonic eneloop) Ni-MH batteries (you need to change a setting on the camera menu). Battery life is now not an issue at all.
    I also find that the "Jazz Club" light setting seems to work best in my house. Who knew it, I practically live in a Jazz Club - very happy with that concept ;)

    • @doublebasshq
      @doublebasshq  Před 4 lety +1

      I'll try that 'jazz light' setting--thanks for the tip! I've been working on getting the video settings dialed in. I just left it on auto for this video, but I'm shooting a bunch of bass stuff today, so I'll try jazz club and see what it looks like.
      Good tip for the battery pack also! I'll look into that for sure. It would be great to be able to set it up and not worry about draining the power.

      @verynearlyaboutsailing8114 Před 2 lety +1

      @@elyamzon I'm not sure if this question is for me or Jason. I haven't tried to see how long my camera lasts for. It was a very short time with the standard batteries. Much better with the battery pack and Panasonic Batteries. I only tend to use it for recording my practice sessions. - so lots of short bursts. I don't know if it will last an hour. You have the option to plug in external (5V USB) power if that is an option.
      I would also advise getting the lens hood as lens flare without it is awful.

    Nice reviews. The advantage of the M50 of course is that you can touch the screen on the inside/outside and backlit scenarios and adjust things not he fly so easily, especially with the 22mm f2 lens. you should try it and there are sooooooo many audio options that it will knock your socks off. it's my "jump to" cam for certain. Relative to lenses, I tell everyone get the lowest number f-stop you can afford because you can always through on an ND filter to stop the lens down but don't go with f3.5 or f4 which is a famous for Canon to keep costs down. The f2 22mm is great for wide angle and works awesome in low light.

    Hi was wondering how long this thing records on a full charge and how long does it take to charge from 0 to 100% ive had 3 bad luck instances with go pro either that or they just truelly are a poor product, the go pro turns on by itself so when i get ready to use it thinking its battery is 100 than i will see its on maybe 2%, never sees to stop, i thought it was just me forgetting to turn it off all the time but its truelly a piece of junk, i was hoping to buy this zoom qn 4 k to record guitar playing, just hope this wont be my 4th electronic product that has terible flaws, i dont need all kinds of picky stuff, just a good battery that records long than 50 mins like my gopro here 8 and take 120 mins to charge and sometimes up to 3 hrs at times, has a mind of its own.

    Hello, Jason! I wanted to give an update on what I've discovered with my new Zoom Q2n-4K. I've been doing some test videos with the help of my son. He's still not convinced that we're recording in 4k, especially when he compares it to what he's done on his iPhone. Well, I've been studying the "Owner's Manual" download and discovered something very important. They claim that recording in 4k needs to be done with a micro-SD card minimum UHS-Speed Class 3 (U3) and minimum Video Speed Class 10. Also, I learned that regular micro-SD cards will record in 4GB increments (?) but, if you use a micro-SD SDXC card, operation is continuous. I have a SanDisk 64GB Extreme Pro MicroSDXC UHS-1 Speed Class 3 / Video Speed Class 30 on order. I'll begin testing with it as soon as it arrives and, hopefully, we'll get some great 4k videos from my new Q2n-4k...'hope this helps.

    • @bigdoggetom6549
      @bigdoggetom6549 Před 3 lety

      The 4GB segments is a limitation of the filesystem used on the SD card, so it's worth keeping in mind that you can face the same problems with an SDXC card if you do not format it as exFAT (though in saying that, you can still easily put the individual clips together in any video editing software)

    • @aftps5444
      @aftps5444 Před 3 lety

      When you were recording and new files where started at the 4gb limit, did you find it missing frames of video or moments of audio? The device I'm looking to replace has a good UHS 1 card but consistently looses 6-20 frames each time it makes a new file, sadly it's not exFAT compatible.

    • @wordwarrior2350
      @wordwarrior2350 Před rokem

      Why didn`t you test it first and tell us the results first? Stop comparing and start shooting. You are not helping your son learn about making a video. I have friends who end up taking their equipment apart before they get anything done. Try this: Shut up and shoot. It doesn't cost anything but an hour or two. End of story.
      Oh, learn to speak clearly without ums and ahs. Close your mouth at the end of the sentence, OK? Get going.

  • @JazzCatzs
    @JazzCatzs Před 5 měsíci

    I’m renting the zoom qn4k, awesome sound and video, but it drives me crazy that there is not a remote control start and stop recording feature. So when recording a solo performance it also records the user running to and from the camera to hit record and end record. So then the user needs to import it into the iMovie movie and trim those unwanted bits out from the start and end of our musical performance. Also, there is no option to use an ac adapter for power, since you burn thru new batteries in the blink of an eye

    Hi there, great review. Does any of those cameras have a reverb or echo effect for the built in mics or do you know any camera that has those effects? Thanks in advance

  • @mack_solo
    @mack_solo Před 3 lety +2

    Good work. Not a lot of info on ZOOM cameras, they're kinda off to the left for most... I still think Q8 would have been a killer cam if the video quality was on par with audio - as opposed to good mics on a dash cam it is now. IMO ZOOM missed out on perfect niche for themselves, which they can still exploit - there are A LOT good small video cameras out there, most with poor audio. The answer to that is not device with excellent audio and poor video :) Maybe Q8 mark II will be the answer.
    Thank you.

      @doublebasshq  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah, Zoom is so close! They just need to tweak a few things and they’d be a clear #1. Audio is pretty much always awesome for them-it’s that tricky video + audio frontier that’s not quite there yet.

    Great review! I use similar gear.
    Q2N still doesn't impress me picture wise.
    I started on the Q8 when it came out for music and simple presentations. The lens sucks unless you've got really good natural light. Still, it's a great tool for field recording.
    Now I use the M50 with a Sigma 16mm f1.4 lense with Rode Wireless Go, or the inbuilt mic for close spoken content

    • @doublebasshq
      @doublebasshq  Před 4 lety

      I'm in the same boat! I find myself using the Q2N for a webcam for bass lessons, but that's about it. I really only use the Q8 for long-form podcast stuff. I cringe at the video quality, but if I'm outdoors talking to people then I can deal with it. :-)

    Be extremely careful that this camera does not tip over when attached to a tri pod, the housing that holds the tripod is not strong. That's exactly what happened to mine, 5 month old camera , now useless. Very disappointed that Zoom would not make this right and cover this under warranty.

  • @theelectricsplash7384

    How long can the Canon M50 shoot before the sensor gets too hot? We'd like to start getting A/V of our gigs and practices and maybe playing an acoustic song in the park, but I know camcorders can shoot for hours on end or until the battery dies or card gets full. The footage on the M50 is leaps and bounds beyond the Zoom ones, and the audio is ok, but how does the audio hold up to a loud rock band? The audio of the Q8 is much fuller than the other two, and its video looks OK under decent light. Thanks for your reviews!

    • @doublebasshq
      @doublebasshq  Před 3 lety +1

      There’s a 30 minute time limit per video for the M50, but I’ve never run into an overheating issue. I’d recommend an external mic or using a Q8 and mixing the audio and video in post. The M50 is a good option!

    • @theelectricsplash7384
      @theelectricsplash7384 Před 3 lety

      @@doublebasshq Thanks for the response! The M50 looks amazing, but some of our sets are more than an hour long, so it wouldn't make sense for that purpose. Maybe a camcorder or the Q8 would be good. I also have a ZoomR16 audio recorder, and the gigs I've recorded with that sound great, but that would be a lot to setup cameras and an audio recorder and plug in all my guitar gear in the 10 minute changeover. The Q8 makes the most sense for a simple setup. I can set my phone on a tripod as a B-Cam or maybe get a little action camera so I can switch up angles in post production. But yes, audio matters more than video.

    I have a QN2, do you think for interviews I should just buy a professional video Rode mic that I can plug on my Android Phone? I have a Samsung A32. The video seems better than the QN2. Also, I was trying to upload a 13min video on youtube from the QN2 and it would take ages...do you know why?

    • @doublebasshq
      @doublebasshq  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, I’d go with your phone video plus the Rode. Not sure about the CZcams upload issue-that shouldn’t be a problem, so maybe there was a bandwidth issue or something like that.

    The q2n 4k isn't bad and I know its not designed for anything like a dslr but the q2n lacks zooming (pardon the pun) features. For an action cam, I'd rather get the GoPro. As a q2n owner, I'm not hating, just saying.
