  • The video is the result of coming across the musicians of R.D.Burman in several LIVE shows.
    R.D Burman's use of musical instruments is a joy to study. Tabla is one of the most prominent instruments in his songs. But the songs that i have discussed are the examples of R.D's innovative use of tabla. Each music director used tabla, but, i think, there are not many who used tabla the way R.D used. This video is purely for entertainment purpose.

    I really appreciate your research regarding the Mount Everest of music , the genius R.D Burman sir .
    The way he used to see the rhythm cycles is just unbelievable. What he has done in his lifetime is way ahead of his time. Thank you for putting this one frame.

    Thank you Ashisda for your excellent presentation.However Panchamda used tabla plenty of bengali songs.HE used Tabla in the film Mahaan 'Har gori rani yahan','Kya huya ek baat par' sung by Amit Kumar and we see the use in the film 1942 love Pyar huya chup ke se.There Panchamda used double stick in the particular song.Mostly we listen the use in many bengali song like Khub chne chena,Tomate amate dekha hoyechilo,Tomar je oi hater mala,Ki kore asi tomar pashe,Ki jadu tomar chokhe,Macher kanta,Modhumas jay,Boloki ache go,jete dao amay dekona,Chonde chonde gaan gaane,Gun gun Bhamra and many more.Jai Panchmeswar.

    Excellent presentation from Ashis Da, Pancham Da used tabla & other various instrument sounds to create extraordinary beats and rhythm & fusions whichno other composer of his time even at present were or are bearing 1% of thought process of Pancham Da which he brought in recording of various songs & background music, it may be "Yadon ki Barat" song O meri soni when a stone rolled down to hill during the picturisation of this Soni song or in "Sholay" when dacoits followed Hema's tonga, the sound of tabla used there befittingly by Pancham Da played by great Tabla maestro Pandit Samta Prasad to create natural effect of sounds of escaping from the captivity of dacoits, only Pancham could conceive it meticulously.
    There are numerous such instances, Pancham Da himself was very good player of Tabla besides many other western & Indian instruments and many he innovated himself..
    Great man Pancham Da a thinking machine who ably brought his crafty creation on ground which will stay immortal, forever....

    Excellent & informative video.
    Let me add that, in the background score of Sholay in that particular scene where Basanti is chased by the dacoits of Gabbar, the tabla is played prominently & remarkably.
    Of course, this video is about the songs.

    Excellent compilation, Ashish. Very informative . I would request you to make , if it is not difficult the innovative tals , RD used in classical or semi classical songs like Rishte Bante Hain, Jhute tere Nain and so many others including the fabulous relas he has used.

    Wonderful compilation.But you have missed out some where Tabla is distinctively used with flair.Ghar,The Burning Train, Sholay,Rocky, have Tabla very skilfully blended to suit the composition.and as some one said numbers from Dil Padosi Hai finds very rich use of Tabla.

    What the rubbish you are talking. All the 80s songs you referred are not even close to the 70s, where RD experimented with tabla. Save Raja Rani, Imaan you referred, look at Tere bina jiya jaaye na (ghar) where he used Tabla tarang, Hum to hai sabke Yaar (Daulat ke Dushman) sitar and tabla camio, Dhanno ki akhon Mein (kitaab) steam engine rhythm on tabla, sholay b/g (chal Dhanno, aj basanti ki) horse beat on tabla, Yeh kaun aj aya (Bsndhe haath), once again tabla tarang and the bayan /rosarosa pc in the third interlude, golmal hai bhai (Golmaal) etc here the experimentations were actually from a genius and got critical acclaim. But the songs of the 80s you referred are all mediocre and most of them easily forgettable

      @ASHISGHATAK  Před 4 lety +1

      There is a disclaimer mate that I made the video as per my opinion only 😊 you have every right to rubbish it, still 😊😊 .The Ghar song is not a Tabla Tarang but a madal tarang. Bandhe Haath song is a typical RD folksy song, which if you had heard, I deliberately avoided. Background music is not something which I have discussed here. So it doesn't come in the purview. And yes, on second thoughts, Kitaab song is a very bad miss. I should have included that. And regarding your "easily forgettable" comment, I humbly say that I remember these songs equally well as the 70s gems you have mentioned. And again my video is not to judge how far it reached the heart of the people. I have just demonstrated his offbeat use of tabla. But, thanks to your comment. This will only help me do things better in future' 😊

      ..i would like to also add that experiments with the table became much more prominent in the 80s esp in his background scores...for eg Arjun , satte pe satta, Shakti , Saagar etc

      Instead of adversely evaluating someone's efforts, it will be desirable that you put up a video with your insights. Songs may be forgettable but what needs to be focused on are the insights.
