To have a father that habituated you to drugs at age 8, and directed and filmed him in excessively sexualized roles, is an excruciatingly painful burden to grow up with. To have overcome this through so much hard work, and excel with such talent, dignity and skill, is nothing short of miraculous. So many do not make it, and end their lives in despair. His efforts are inspirational, and the compassion of his friends and loved ones, likewise. Love this guy.
"Directed and filmed him in excessively sexualized roles"
Hold on, hold on. You can't make that claim without providing evidence. Are you talking about his first line when he was a child?
14:31 Nevermind...đź
met Rob Downey Jr in Hollywood just walking dwn the street in the late 90s..recognized him and he stopped and chatted with me like I was an old buddy..even told me about his new movie roles coming up...I was in awe that a star like him was so cool - and I still have a pic of him n me from that day somewhere at my moms house

In sure alot of young people dont know that back in the 90s, Robert Downey Jr.'s name was synonymous with the words Strung Out .He really did get his shit together. Damn good actor. Good to see he turned his life around.

Yes- Happy Robert overcame his problems with addiction and
moved on to do good-
Seems he came to
his breaking point and
totally turned his
life around for the better-
Good for Robert Downey!
One of my favorite movies he did was less than zero.
he sobered up because he's on adderall, aka prescription meth

I have followed this man's career since I was 11 years old and I can honestly say, you are the only one to create a documentary that I left actually learning something new about him. Bravo!
You might only be 12 now though, right!? đ
His performance as Chaplin was one of the most incredible performances Iâve seen. He seemed imbued with chaplins physicality and spirit. Just incredible
Agreed!!!
He was brilliant in that movie, and got robbed out of an Oscar, because he got busted with cocaine, in a town and business infected with cocaine...btw.
He nailed Chaplin to a tee, the way he moved, the way he talked, his facial expressions........it was simply just.......100%.....spot on. And did you know, that Richard Attenborough didn`t want him for the role. Robert Downey Jr called Attenborough........again and again, showed up in places where Attenborough hung out, and kept pushing him, until he got an audition. Well.........no one could`ve done a better job.....it was pure genius.
I've always liked Robert Downey Jr. and so impressed with the hard work it takes for him to overcome his addiction.
Well. that's the irony, he came over it course he have money. can a drug addict change his life with kids and a normal life?

I'm a Downey fan since childhood. He's a fascinating individual. While I wasnt at all unaware of any of this, I love how you delivered the info. Very fair and objective. Straight facts, no shaming. Well done.
absolutely Amazing
This man's story with drug addiction and perseverance let's us know to NOT give up and that you can ACHIEVE anything if you have hope.
also , stay out of hollywood, with all its peadofhiles and corrupt individuals.
Less than zero was a masterpiece. Unreal that nobody cared for it. He shoulda won an Oscar.
HOLYSHIT! If you would have added "PLUS, Fuckin SLAYER doin "In A Gadda Da Veda" on the soundtrack, I would have yelled "Wondertwin powers, ACTIVATE'' and punched a hole through my laptop screen!!!!
All time favorite!!!
just my humble opinion... 'Less Than Zero' is a very sad film because of the ending đ.. I think that is why I can't ever watch it again.đ. This is probably why it is not viewed by many of the public.đđđ. Myself and maybe others wanted to see his character make it through his personal hell and live.. very depressing ending that he did not make it ..nobody wants to see R.D.J. pass away ..even in a film characterization ..because he is so loved by the public..Sherlock Holmes films he should stay with doing.. He gave such a great performance in 'Zero' ..and these Sherlock films .. Later information revealed that he was actually going through similar issues regarding 'Zero' in his actual life .. How horrific for him . Maybe that is part of the reason not too many want to watch it either .. it makes one feel like one is viewing a very sickening , disturbing documentary .one viewing of 'Less Than Zero' is enough. It's a story of lost , vapid souls.a sad film throughout.đ.I'm thankful I did not read the book..So Thankful the man has a good , hopefully healthy and happy life now .. I like that your doc doesn't appear to serve any masked agendas. The work is well researched, unbiased, clearly sequential, and heartfelt. I feel that I can appreciate the man a little more...not "just" the actor. Thank you.

I just watched this with my hubby, we grew up watching Robert Downey Jr. We have always liked him. We come into this incarnation with a set of challenges to overcome. Iâve always been a huge fan of his. (Iâm around the same age.) I was rooting for him to recover. The longer youâre actively addicted, the harder it is to stop, so he deserves a lot of credit. Iâm so glad he turned that all around and has been doing well for so many years.
Much respect for this man. Excellent artist And a heart of gold that had to overcome the odds working against him.
Totally agree mate.
Fun fact: Burger King is the only reason RDJ stopped doing drugs. He was high out of his mind one night and got a whopper and it was so disgusting it was like a wake up call for him.

I look forward to seeing more of work.

I have loved this actor since the 80's. Amazing example of triumph over adversity. One of the very few decent people in Hollyweird...
From everything Iâve heard/seen about him I have to agree with you.
I'm obsessed with documentaries. Its hardntonfind good ones anymore. Your doing a great job!
I promise mine will get better and better, a lot of these are still early ventures, but my researching/cross referencing and other skills with various video elements are getting better! Stay tuned!
I'd be super down to see a full length Corey Haim video from you!
I met him in Toronto a couple of months before he died. His apartment was down the street from mine. Nice guy.
@@hehunches To tell you the truth, I didn't recognise him at first, it was my wife (now ex) that noticed him. He had put on so much weight that I argued with her that it wasn't him. Anyway, I like the guy and don't want to tell stories about him that others might see as putting him in a bad light.
I grew up in Ireland and Lost Boys was my friends and mine favourite film. We knew the all words. Never in my life did I think I'd ever meet 'Sam'. Then years later bumping into Corey & finding out he lived around the corner from me & that he was a nice guy Irl blew my mind. It really is a small world.

Well done! I can truly say that Robert Downey Jr is one of a very select few Hollywood actors whom I would dearly love to shake hands and share a cup of coffee with! None of us are perfect, but he's an inspiration for everyone. I hope to see him in many more roles.
It's kind of funny In a way the way he got clean and the way I did. For him it was a disgusting burger king burger. For me it was little Caesars pizza. I had $5. And some change after spending all my money on opiates and I was starving so I got the cheapest thing I could find. It was the most disgusting thing I've ever had and made me question all my life's choices. I didn't know that about him until a few years after I stopped. But it's definitely a really good reason

Right on! Some people say that you can't just quit cold turkey, or without the proper support, but as you and Robert have demonstrated (as have some people that I know and partied and/or worked with have also done)... what it takes is a the personal will to do it. Something needs to spark the desire and motivate the individual.
Props for recognizing the moment and doing it! It's not easy, but as you said... it was something that forced you to reassess your life. A real epiphany.
WTG!

I have and always will be a Downey fan. His rebellious ways was just an example of how all us teens were living . I love how he defeated his demons especially with parents like his, it is admirable. Many says he is snarky and abrupt , well this is why we love him too.
