    Silly little production detail. At 8:56, when Frampt asks me if I took away his nom-noms, you might have noticed his mustache-thingy flopping around more than usual. I realized I had a way to make them appear bouncier to heighten the silliness, and the means of pulling it off was even sillier. There's a debug option for forcing ragdoll corpses on enemies. It won't kill them, but they'll collapse as if they're dead. You can then turn that back off, and enemies will sort of pop back up into whatever position & animation they're supposed to be in. That snapping back into place gives momentum to those dangly bits, so you're looking at him shortly after coming out of ragdoll.
    There are ways of seeing this in-game without doing that. Quitting and reloading next to him allows you to see it IIRC, maybe after the transport cutscenes too.

    A bit of a weird one that the flowchart doesn't account for - if you skip the estus flask at the start and play through the whole game through to ng+, then do the estus skip again, the estus flask will appear in the chest, even though you never had it in your inventory.

    • @Pantagana
      @Pantagana Před 4 měsíci +197

      I was just about to comment that. When I used Cheat Engine to set my game to NG+7 at the start with a fresh new character, Oscar didn't give me the Estus Flask so I never had it in my inventory, but the chest had it.

    • @illusorywall
      @illusorywall  Před 4 měsíci +367

      @@Pantagana Ah so this is interesting! King Bore told me that something was unique/different about how the Estus spawns and how it should probably show up in the chest without even getting it prior, unlike the rest of the items. I've found that this isn't the case normally, doing the Estus Skip does prevent the chest from having it. But watch some NG+ weirdness help jump start it. Maybe in the process of taking certain items away from you after clearing a NG+ cycle, they wanted some backup protection, making sure that wouldn't happen to your Estus?

      @illusorywall  Před 4 měsíci +248

      @returnosf5043 Před 4 měsíci +42

      @illusorywall Thank you! I think your theory is right - the only other explanation I can think of is that the chest offering the estus is triggered by speaking to Oscar in ng+. There's something in place when you talk to Oscar that checks if you're in ng+ and doesn't give you the estus if you are - perhaps arriving in Firelink still not in possession of the flask after this check causes the chest to think you've lost it?

    I think, the main reason why this type of mechanic made a comeback in Sekiro is because unlike previous games, Sekiro changes the entire areas completely (multiple times even) throughout your playthrough, making some of the items you might have missed inaccessible without warning. Also Sekiro has a lot of key items responsible for upgrades. For example, Phantom Kunai is probably one of the more common items players will see in that chest. Without this mechanic, not only a specific upgrade would not be possible, but it would also lock other upgrades further on.

    A bit of extra clarification on Good Vagrant spawning with the chest:
    You probably don't want to drop the ring in Firelink Shrine itself. I mean, you can! Other players will get the resulting Drift Item bag where you dropped it in Firelink. However, Drift Item Bags are supposed to turn into Good Vagrants after being passed 10+ times online and this fails in Firelink. It'll stay as a Drift Item bag for every recipient it ever gets, because Firelink doesn't have any actual Vagrant spawn locations in the map data.
    So REALLY using the Firelink Chest to seed Good Vagrants is a little more tedious than it looks, like the second one shown in the video. If you want it to be effective, you need to leave firelink to a proper level, drop one of the rings, then warp back to firelink to get the ring back, etc.
    Edit: Also, shoutout to the invader at 5:34. They were cosplaying as the Dirty Colossus from Demon's Souls! Super creative build and I'm so happy they got to be my invader for this video. It was a completely random player.
    If you saw my most recent short, that was me messing around in Sen's Fortress while waiting for that invasion to happen:

      22:10 the offering box gives you all prayer beads from enemies that despawn after a daytime change (for example the seven ashina spears in ashina reservoir after killing 2 of the following: guardian ape/corrupted monk/folding screen monkeys), this works for every miniboss in the playthrough but only for bosses that despawn at some point (if you do shura ending you won't find the beads from fountainhead palace/3rd invasion minibosses).
      If you don't obtain the prayer bead from a miniboss then the boss respawns (the most common example is okami leader shizu falling to his death and dropping nothing, reloading makes him respawn)
      The offering box also gives you missable items from shops (phantom kunai or gourd seeds for example), this doesn't cover things like sugars/upgrade materials/sen purses etc. ❤

    Fantastic video as always!
    Extra note for any modders out there: the "Force Character Treasure" event may as well be called "Silent Instant Kill". It works on any character, rolls for any/all treasure drops as normal, and essentially seems to set their state to dead without awarding any souls and (for normal enemies) without the death sound. Enemies with ragdolling will start already ragdolled on the ground, and if you use it while the map is loaded, they just silently collapse in front of you. It will also trigger any event flags marking that character as dead, so it generally can't be undone once used on important characters!

    In dark souls remastered, npc items when dropped stay there at their original location but by leaving the world via invasion or summon, you can duplicate the item by picking up at the last message. Although Blackhat Badger has been brought up already in the comments, theres another quirk with him that some have noticed. Killing him or progressing his quest line will stop you from using his shop, making the anti-death blow appear in the offering box. The Iron Fortress(loaded umbrella) is also in his shop, but instead of being moved to the offering box it is instead just placed on the ground at his original location(if I remember correctly. I beliveve this happened to me in my most recent playthrough). I have also seen prayer beeds in there and these are most likely from mini bosses located in ashina castle whose original spawns get replaced with different enimies later into the game.

      like, even if i had been, i'd still be curious about what could've possibly launched it from wherever it'd spawned over to the open sky area i was at, considering it'd have to be something like a npc loading in and knocking it away with substantial force. but no, its velocity was almost entirely vertical and i wasn't near any sort of overhang, so i really have no clue what could've happened beyond it just literally spawning in the sky
      an extra fun bit is that i genuinely thought it was a ruin fragment or sanctuary stone as it was falling and assumed this was just some exceptionally rare flavor event i hadn't witnessed before, so i was momentarily baffled when torrent crushed it underhoof and i ended up with a golden rune instead

    Jokes aside it's pretty interesting how productive it is to actually drop items rather than feeding them to frampt. Productive to another player anyway, but it could circle back to you. It does make me wonder what is up with frampt's appetite? Does he even have an appetite? Or does he, like the player in a way, love hoarding items and just stores them in his stomach?
    Could it be an eating disorder he has? Hence why we see him sleeping so much? I've gotten pretty off topic from the vid, I just find it interesting.

    You mention here that Kirk is guaranteed to drop his sword and shield by the time you battle him in Izalith, but is that true? I've always read that he's one of the few cases where his items are never a guarantee.

    • @illusorywall
      @illusorywall  Před 4 měsíci +3

      It is true. I think the issue is that he can invade you in later locations WITHOUT having defeated him at prior locations. So I think this creates some miscommunication where players say "I fought him in Izalith but he didn't drop them!". As long as you defeat him in all three locations, something called the "cumulator" (I'm not making that up 😅) keeps count and guarantees the drop.
      You can't get multiple copies, though, so one other potential source of troubleshooting is having successfully picked up his drops earlier, forgetting, and then expecting them from Izalith.

    • @rolandoftheeld
      @rolandoftheeld Před 4 měsíci

      @@illusorywall Has this always been true? I had also always thought that his drops were the only truly random missable items in the game, ever since I read that over a decade ago. To my knowledge, the offering box is pretty simple. If a merchant NPC dies before you get certain unique items from them, that gets added. If a miniboss that drops a prayer bead despawns due to story progression, the prayer bead gets added. I'm pretty sure that's it.

    Super interesting! I love these Dark Souls Dissected videos. Just crazy obscure and esoteric mechanics explained in detail.
    As far as I'm aware, Sekiro's offering box lets you purchase lost guaranteed drops from minibosses who have despawned, such as Prayer Beads from early-game bosses after the Interior Ministry's invasion, important vendor items you never bought, like the Anti-Air Deathblow text from Blackhat Badger after he moves to Senpou Temple and stops being a vendor, and possibly Key Items that you never picked up. I've been meaning to do a run where I never get the Shuriken Wheel to see if it shows up in the offering box after you defeat Divine Dragon, when you can't reach it any more. Maybe I'll get back to you on that if/when I ever get around to doing that.

  • @jimmymullen6253
    @jimmymullen6253 Před 4 měsíci +1

    In Sekiro, when playing through the game quickly and not necessarily fighting every miniboss, it is pretty easy to get a few prayer beads to spawn in the offering box. This happens (as far as I understand it) because certain events that happen in the game cause gamestate changes. One of these is picking up the last of the three items needed for the fountainhead insense, which causes hirata estate to progress to the Owl (Shinobi) fight. there is a missable miniboss that exists in Hirata before this state change at the top of the Stairs. If you perform the change before killing him, his prayer bead is available in the box.
    I believe there is another hirata estate change that happens after the divine dragon fight, and another prayer bead available in the box.
