In this video i'm going to show you some quick and easy ways to level up the styles of your animation. How to make your animation from being flat to being visually interesting. These techniques are applicable to different kinds of animation in After Effects. I'll also be discussing how a few simple ways to really improve the look and feel of your project. We used the paid Deep Glow plugin in this project, you will need this plugin to achieve full effects.

is there a reason you're pre-comping the whole cube and keying out each side instead of just putting the liquid gradient in the cube comp? Seems like it would be less work.

Great question, if we do it on the whole cube, it will appear to be flat and we won't be able to add any inner glow and bevel around the edges of each side, only by doing it on each side individually can we make it more 3d.

The moment I add layer styles, the alpha matte disappears, and I get the full gradient texture.
Edit - I came up with a fix: pre-compose the shape at the very beginning, before the cube, and apply the Layer style to that.
Edit 2 - It didn't work.

layer style not working in your method , the track matt wont work in 3d in video you first showed to make grident layer 3d ,, then it suddenly gets non 3d

great animation but after effect is not the best software for this kind of animation i was able to get same result in fraction of effort in fusion
