It's common in Asian countries.
They would add it to tobacco leaves and chew on them.

mas ok kung lutong luto ang shell ( puting puti). uling gamitin mo at paypayan mo ng husto para matinding init. saka mo ilagay sa lata matapos basain ng konti. wisik wisik. takpan mo yung lata ng dahon. idarang mo sa lang ng ilang minuto sa baga. after ng ilang sandali kusa navyang mapupulbos.

Sadly no, the sea shells need to be burned at 800 to 1000 degrees Celsius to become lime
