  • In 2018 we hosted our first trail running and nutrition retreat in Chiang Mai and it was an incredible four days of trails, food and community - better than we ever imagined.
    Thanks to Sage Canaday, Sandi Nypaver and all runners for joining. In 2019 we'll be joined by Lucy Bartholomew, and we can’t wait to do it all over again. Find out more here: bit.ly/rer-2019

      Haha we always have a big mix of runners, and there's always a bog focus on enjoying the moment, the trails and the time together. There may be a little racing at times but we are just there to enjoy the trails together. Hope to meet one day!

    Can you do a video on maintaining weak ankles for running? I especially roll over on my right ankle quite a lot when I'm not giving it a lot of attention on a run (concentration wise). I think the outer tendon (after spraining it a couple of times) is stretched now and weak. I think a video on this topic would be extremely helpful for a lot of people. Thanks, love your videos!

      It's a common question and I'll try to get to it with regards to a video. Once you have injured or rolled your ankle just as you suggest it has been compromised and the likelihood of a roll again the future is higher. So you need to focus on strengthening the area proactively. With injuries like this I would recommend seeing a physio if you can to ensure there is no serous damage, a physio will also assess the exact issue and prescribe you personalised strengthening exercises. From experience though lots of single leg balance work has helped me. Starting with as simple stuff as standing on a balance board, boosu ball single leg: activating those stability muscles, ankle joint and strengthening everything up in time. Lots of movement variations with this, or even at home standing and balancing on a cushion on your bed (an even surface that moves) To building up into dynamic plyometric multi directional work to take things further. As well as taking precautions such as strapping the ankle to protect it on technical trails and prevent further rolls. Activating the area often forcing it strengthen up but also giving it the time to heal and rest/recover is key. Have fun with it and best of luck!

    Hi harry really love the content and I'm a subscriber. I was wondeiring if you could tell if I have decent natural talent as a runner. I'm 17 years old and have been running since January of this year where my 5K PB was around 28 minutes. I'm now running a 18:40 5K and and have run a sub 1 hour 10 minute 10 mile run and this is on roughly 30 miles a week. Does this mean I have decent talent and how much could my 5K PB rise to by running say 50 miles per week?

    Hi Harry. I’m new to trail running. My friend who also runs trails told me for trail running shoes I should buy half a size or one size larger? Is that true? Thanks

    • @HarryRunsUK
      @HarryRunsUK  Před 5 lety

      Hey Alex, this is not necessarily true. It depends on the model, brand and shoe. I wear Hoka One One and have the same size for both road and trail. So I'd certainly recommend trying on whatever shoe you think will suit the trails you are running on (look and think about how much grip, you need for your area), keeping in mind if the trails you will be running on most are dry and dusty or wet and muddy etc these factors could affect the shoe you decide on...Have fun and enjoy the trails!
