I am an actor and content creator with Hollywood credits including roles on Lucifer (Netflix), Starlight Christmas (Hallmark), JT Leroy (Universal Studios), etc. In this channel, I offer insight to Kpop performances using my 10+ years of training in dance, acting, singing and overall performance. In dance, my forte are contemporary and musicals and have done most of my performances in theatre. Although my channel is mostly known for dance analysis, I am currently inactive in the dance community.
Chung ha doesn’t like her dancers to be called backup dancers, she says it is bad, and that they’re more than just backup dancers, and that’s why you got a moment where you only see her dancers: so that she isn’t always in the spotlight ^^
Also this is exactly how you make space for dancers in the ballroom community to show off their talents. Vogue is such an underrepresented, way too often appropriated not so much appreciated, kinda dancing style. So the fact Chungha leaves the spotlight for the vogue dancers speaks volume of how well aware she is as a guest of this culture.
Chungha is The Queen. She's been known as an incredible dancer since her audition for Produce 101. She choreographed a lot of IOI's stuff along with her solo music.

@@aunjanuegillis4653 she's crazy talented. And humble too. During Produce 101 she choreographed her group's dance to Bang Bang by herself and during one of the lessons told the teachers that the whole group did it. The rest of the trainees stepped up to give Chungha the credit she deserves

Just to let you know, this is a pre-release and there will be a second pre-release before her actual comeback!! So it's crazy that her company is small but still spent that much money for this song even tho it's not even her comeback!

@@JeffAvenue yes its a pre release =). I think she was supposed to comeback earlier but she couldnt because of Corona so the company is hyping up the comeback with amazing pre releases. Another thing that delayed the comeback was that there's also Bvndit's comeback "Jungle". Bvndit is a group from the same company, and it's also worth checking them out bcs they have some great choreos and (warning) super deep husky voices.

actually jeff this piece isn’t meant for a stage, hence why there’s cuts in the choreo/video. it’s a pre-release for her album and it was meant to represent the lgbt+ community and introduce that to korea. that’s why she has men dancing with her. there’s voguing and whaacking in the choreo, because chungha is known for it (mainly whaacking)

Most of chungha's dances are more of a performance showpiece instead of heavy choreo, not to say it's not intricate or beautiful, just a different direction she likes to go with her song performances.
Also (from what I know) she has a background in whacking which you can see in her song choreos which always have a lot of hand/arm movements
This song is for the gays and I absolute LOVE the vogue in here. As a fun fact, Chungha doesn't like calling her dance crew backup dancers and the dance break was intended to highlight them! i gotta say! in kpop, having this hyped up prechorus and then a “chiller” beat as a chorus is not that rare! i’ve seen it before in my kpop journey. It almost always follows by a 2nd part of the chorus, that is actually the energetic and catchy part. U can see 2 part choruses a lot in kpop too! for exaple stray kids miroh

Ooo yes I immediately thought of IZ*ONE's La Vie En Rose where it had a strong prechorus and then a chill chorus lolz (if that's not what you're talking about I am so sorry)
Structurally I thing the song is something like "intro, v1, prechorus, chorus, v2, prechorus, chorus, bridge, dance break, final chorus".
The reason it caught you off guard is that the prechorus starts with a drop. This creates a double drop structure with the chorus. The drop in the prechorus gives it more headroom to build up before dropping a second time when the chorus comes in without the prechorus build needing to be quite so strong. Because it built from a drop the prechorus can be quieter and still deliver a real drop when the chorus hits. Double drops are common in some electronic music genres.
Chungha really amaze me since produce 101 days and up 'till now. She's just really good at dancing and have a great vocals. She can rap too. She's an all rounder.

It's my first time to watch you react to a female idol hahaha. Can you also react to (G) - IDLE - Latata or Alone. Any of their song. They're really a good girl group and most of their choreos were choreographed by their leader.
i hope you react to her other songs like snapping, chica (has a live performance and dance practice) and gotta go, roller coaster, etc. she's really good!!
side note: idk if you would want to react but she has a stage with taeyong from nct. The song is called "why don't you know". actually there is a original version where taeyong wasn't the feature but i prefer his and chungha's version. I think his tone of voice goes well with her and her song. You should def check it out whether it be on a reaction or on your own.

She’s really fond of her dancers, that break is basically showcasing them! She loves them and for their work a lot!
Fun fact: chungha never talks about her dancers as about backup dancers, she acknowledges them as artists and says that the word “backup” takes away from that ...and I respect her so much for that

Chungha is very much like Taemin, she is very known and liked for her dancing and she has a very unique way of dancing that no one can seem to imitate or look like her when dancing. You should definitely check more of her stuff, I think you'd like very much! And we'll appreciate too! 🥰

In 6:14 where she dissapears in the back, she did it because she actually wanted to let the dancers shine on their own. She always says that she hates when people call dancers "backup dancers" because she knows they actually make the whole show, they are not in the back and they should be aknowledge :) She is a queen!
I don't only love Chungha but dang her back up dancers are very impressive because towards the end where she was revealed like 4 back up dancers stayed in this position with 1 leg up and then 1 leg under while they were on their back and Chungha is pretty close with some of her backup dancers which I really love.
I recommend reacting to Monsta X new song Fantasia, I think it got pushed back because Shownu was hurt or something was gling on with him so he couldn't promote so they decided to postpone it (sorry I don't know which words to describe it).

) about the process behind creating this dance - in the practice, she's the one with the knee pads and tattoo on her side!
The best dancer in kpop to me is actually her. She has a really impressive stage presence and is very natural about her movements. She is a good choreographer too, and has a beautiful and powerful voice. Chungha is a whole package
Omg guys, at the first part(when they were all on the ground) I just realized that it was like a dress. You know when she was moving her hands and the dancers were at her waist, it’s like when you spin with a dress on.( I don’t know if I’m making sense so....)
The two main choreographers are in both the dance practice and the mv! In the dance practice they are the girl with the ponytail and bangs and the girl who is in the middle during the dancer dance-break section of the bridge. There’s also a whole video that chronicles the journey of the choreo being made somewhere but I can’t remember the name of the channel.
fun fact, one of her backup dancers actually choreographed this! i watched the videos of her choreographing it and it was so interesting. if you wanna check it out, her name is rian you can check out the behind the scenes and everything on her channel. chungha is one of my fav soloist bc she loves all of her staff and backup dancers and her relationship with them is literally the cutest :)
Honestly I've barely heard the non-drop chorus in anything other than K-pop/K-indie. It's such a great song dynamic seriously
I wouldn't call her queen of kpop, because I think there are other female artists equally remarkable, but she definitely belongs in the top. This whole performance and MV was like a beautiful show!

One of my very favorite Chungha choreo is Chica! It's just so appealing. There's no music video for it, but there is a dance practice & several live stages. And yes...she is GORGEOUS!!!!

another good soloist you should check out is AleXa!! her choreos go a lot harder like boy groups unlike other girl groups. Her debut single “Bomb” has some pretty intense choreo, and her latest comeback “Do or Die” was just as good :)

Yes this is the chorus. This is called an anti-drop. They create a huge build-up in the music, and then instead of giving you the classic 'epic chorus formula' they give you a big drop of drum, bass and vocals. That what makes it sound unconventional ^^

Actually this choreography is not really for a stage, but just for the music video. Because there are a lot of parts who don’t have any transition between them ^^. But it will be so nice to see it in stage of course

Chungha actually said that this song isn't going to be the title track of her comeback, so she won't actually perform this one on music shows as much as whatever the unreleased one is. This is mostly a teaser to draw interest to the album (as if anyone is still sleeping on Chungha, QUEEN!) I love that she routinely pushes gender boundaries with her back up dancers; they almost always have a part-switch version of the choreography videos where the male and female dancers switch; in this one they just went "eff your gender boundaries, these men need heels and a BOLD LIP!" Love it.

I was always scared that Chungha wouldn't be able to break through into fame since she used to be from produce and went solo but I'm so glad she has worked this hard and showed she was able to hold herself up since some produce solos don't fare very well later on in their career. She really gives Madonna + Ariana Grande vibes and if anything, she might do the same path as Uhm Jung Hwa, one of the legendary queens of korean music. It's nice to see you reacting to female artists, hopefully we can see more after the list is done.
Produce’s been good with producing solo acts tho. Like Kang Daniel and Ongwoo. I think we’ll see more from the produce x 101 too 😊

This is a prelease song and she hasn't actually performed it on any music shows. The thing with the choreo is it isn't continuous, so they have to have cuts in the dance practice. It would be impractical to perform live but I would love to see it
