My favorite 2 lines.
"This...this is what it smelled like when daddy was a hero."
"...and you shook my hand once. Like I was a man. I still remember that."
+StationaryBike that's a good line too!
Such a funny line!
I haven't listened to Phil Kaye in a while. I always forget how much I love his material. Sometimes with him, there is just that moment. I'm not sure how to describe it, but I think you know what I mean.
Ian Moldovan i know what you mean
i know what you mean
Phil and Sarah are still my two favorite spoken word poets - they have a way of performing which is so different to the style generally heard, and it's lovely and just as powerful, if not more powerful.
"I am not a strong boy but I am trying to learn what it means to build."
This was incredible! Ya Phil me?
that was okaye
Moza Almehairi how do you phil about this
"She is a young American bombshell you may want to hold her, but be careful not to hurt yourself"
I was lucky enough to be 5 feet away from him for this! That night was incredible being able to see Phil and Sarah perform was a dream come true!
I love poems like these with personal stories. The language and performance are just flawless too.
This was beautiful, I love how he tied his poetry into it at the end. A poem about how his world came to be.
You know that feeling when you come across someone and after a little while you just know that they are a bright, beautiful, soulful person and that you two connect on a level almost spiritual?
I feel that with Phil and his poetry.
I love this man's smile
Wow. There are, few times when I am speechless....but, this....I have no words...
BROOO THE WAY HE TIED THAT ENDINGGGGG it caught me so off guard im still having goosebumps
His voice is like pillows clouds and puppies.
Oh yeah and the poem was alright.
Jkjkjkjk it was freaking amazing. He's fantastic
i listen to his poems when i’m sad and dysphoric. i know the dysphoria doesn’t really relate to him but it distracts me from my gender dysphoria and i feel happy for a moment . maybe my life will change and i’ll have happy memories like this . maybe life isn’t always struggle
Hi!! I know this is 2 years late but I've been going back through my poetry playlist and rediscovering some of my favorite poems and I just wanted to say that you are a wonderful person and I hope that the pandemic is treating you well (or as well as it can) 💙💙💙 you are so, so valid and deserving of happiness and I hope you have a lovely day!! :)
Phil never fails to amaze me. I am speechless
I cant concentrate, he is too beautiful
chills. then tears. thank you phil kaye for the gift of poetry.
This is perfect. At the end I just got overwhelmed with feels.
This is absolutely gorgeous. The part where he's talking about the gentleman coming in whose hand his grandfather shook, always reminds me of a similar story I have. My great-grandfather owned a Jewish Delicatessen in Philadelphia (I'll leave which one it was because it has changed ownership a handful of times and it's no longer in the family). A few years back my father and I went into his rival's shop (Hymies). An older gentleman was working behind the counter, he was the owner and founder of Hymies Jewish Delicatessen in Bala Cynwyd, PA and he turned to my father upon introductions and said "it's an honor to have an Auspitz [family name on my grandmother's side] in my shop". I still think about that a lot.
Wow. Your great grandfather must have been an amazing man. He reminds me of my great grandfather, except his store was in Brooklyn. He was also an inspiration of a man. Lived on a farm, had a shop in Crown Heights, lived very simply. But the way he treated other people has left a huge mark. To this day, every time I mention his name to someone they have a story about how he touched their life. It's incredible what respecting and treating people right can do
Phil Kaye on Button Poetry = day made
He's gorgeous. This poem is gorgeous. I need more of him and his gorgeousness
This was so incredible I felt almost at home listening and watching
Forever one of my all time favorite poems. Also made me look back at memories of my grandfather, very touching.
This is gonna be incredibly specific but this poem feels so nostalgic to me - most of it is the poem itself, of course. But also, the way he speaks really reminds me of Stuart McLean... we listened to his stories on car trips when I was a kid. I love this extra layer to the poem that this adds for me. Does anyone else also feel nostalgia about the way he speaks, for some other reason?
wow. absolutely speechless. incredible.
When he said "six years" while chuckling😭💖
"I began to build, the only way I know how."
I just LOVED listening to you... Good Lord... such a great poet. THUMBS UP!!!
This is deep and beautiful. I truly do love phil kaye's poems.

The Kays never cease to amaze me bravo well done Philip!!
+MishaAckles the pizza man Are you referring to Sarah Kay? Because I do not think that they are related.
+Juan Monter I know lol I just love when they preform together
This is beautiful.
everything here is perfect!
In my playlists, I have two for poetry:
Beautiful and
Poetry
I only put it in beautiful because to call it poetry is an insult. It felt more like a memory expressed in words, or emotions put into verbal form.
Loved it!
Thank you
It's amazing... I love slam poetry.. It hits u like a tonne 9 bricks
What a great performance!
"This here, is an old american bombshell, you may want to hold it but be careful not to hurt yourself, oh her there? she is a young american bombshell, you may want to hold her but be careful not to hurt yourself" This man is a fucking genius with words
I’m not into poetry, never learned anything about it and I still don’t know.... somehow I can’t help but be drawn to this guy
I came across him by PURE chance when I was trying to do something for English class.... how funny... English
Anyways I have been watching his videos since and I absolutely love them!!! I came across him fairly recently but damn I don’t know if it’s the way he says things or the actual things he says but it’s damn amazing
Loved that!
