The Avett Brothers in the Bing Lounge at KINK.FM with a live version of Down With the Shine. FB: / binglounge Twitter: / thebinglounge Tumblr: / binglounge
As a member of this audience, we were all told to remain seated and quiet, as it was being recorded, they did not want extra sounds picked up. I was in the row in front of the camera, with some of the biggest Avett fans around, and we were told if we stood up, we would block the view of the band for the recording. The show itself was recorded at 10am in the morning too. Believe me, it was very hard to sit still through it all, but we had to.
That's the first thing I said (as I swayed back and forth in my chair) "How can they all sit so still?" It's equally difficult for the band as well! They thrive on feedback!
I think it is about how sometimes even though something looks appealing (the shine) it may not always be in reality. Be true to yourself or fall victim to the shine!
In times like these I am so encouraged by talents like this! What a message! Down with corruption, greed, and materialistic human nature. We are all at fault and have to battle these forces, me especially! It's creative, genius, artistic expressions like these that reminds us all of whats important in life. Not the shiny materials but the spiritual, ageless relationships we are blessed to encounter in our shot lives. MAKE THEM COUNT! Thank God for real music:D
This and the NPR versions are so so so good! I can't stop listening to this song! And I love how the audience is so quiet Scott starts clapping for them lol.. sad.
Is Scott seriously the only man on earth who can get away with those pants? Somehow, I just think it all fits with the strangly sexy bowl cuts on the two brothers' heads. Or I'm nuts. No, wait, those tools sitting quietly in zombie mode are nuts.
Thanks! Scott is definitely a fine banjo-player. In other songs he shows familiarity with Scruggs-style rolls and clawhammer, but Avett Brothers isn't a bluegrass band by any means, so he never really has to show off. Simplicity is a beautiful element of their sound, in my opinion. I myself play upright bass and banjo, and I happen to think that Bob and Scott does a great job on those instruments. Great band.
I don't know if some of you realize that sometimes the crowd is supposed to be quiet for live recordings and what not?? Or to simply appreciate how B.A. they trully are. Thanks boys, pick on!
its funny, we had neighbours when i was young that we always revered to as shiny, they went too country clubs to golf, when out to eat every other night, went to the theatre, and sounding english. So anything thing extravagant or unnecessarily expensive, i always say screw that shiny shit.....so thank god the avett's are keeping it real.
Much love from Charlotte, NC Play a dang concert in Charlotte for once. I mean the Verizon Amphitheater is 15 minutes from where you grew up, but you skipped the whole Charlotte/Concord/Salisbury market for this tour.
I think it's awesome that Seth donated for Locks of Love....but the end results do him no justice. I guess I just love all that long hair on him, I'm actually jealous of that beautiful mane!
only things that last can be truly Good. This universe is one of time and consequence, but only that which might survive the end, and the end of time might be Good,... or truly Real for that matter.
@darbina99 ... We're all real disappointed that your disappointed with Scotts banjo playing And also very impressed by your banjo lingo. Im just not sure exactly why you came back in here when your opinion was obviously expressed a month ago.
Well they could at least nod their heads or smile or something.. Great performance though, including the banjo strumming because that's the way the song was written.
What is WITH those people??? We just say them in Reading on Wednesday & my legs ache from bouncing so much! Those people must be stuffed....or should be, 'cuz they're dead!
@humdinger77 I can strum a banjo. With no skills or training I can pick up a banjo and strum the damn thing and make up chords and play them. I cannot claw hammer, I cannot flail and I can't three finger pick the banjo. That shit is HARD and requires practice. I have never seen him do that. And it disappoints me a lot because I could have loved these people if he could PLAY THE BANJO ANYWAY. Their songs where he plays piano are good and their harmonies are great. But that banjo.... sad..
really? please reconsider this. they are doing and have done all that could be reasonably expected and so much more... maybe your post is a tad selfish and contrary to a charitable way? May you be blessed with tickets, time and gas money to a slightly distant concert. Peace, Love. pg
truly amazing how many hair styles they can rock

Why aren't there more views for this song? This is definitely my favorite song by the Avett Brothers. I can't even find this song on Spotify.
Perfect. Just perfect. If you think otherwise, just go away. There are plenty of us that love them just as they are. Beautiful.

these guys are amazing in concert!! Best i've seen ;)
To be honest the crowd is quiet because its a radio recording. I bet they're going crazy inside
They've said in a recent interview this is going to be on The Carpenter! Excitement mounts.

Good Lord, is that audience asleep or what! LOVE This song. even more without the horns
Joe Kwon is the man!
Is that an audience or manikin's ? Will be seeing the Avett Brothers New Years in Charlotte. Cannot wait.
Is it a bad time to bring up the truth? You guys are great!
MOONSHINE!
@darbina99 you should cry more about it.
Did you two find each other?
Seth kinda looks like Freddie Mercury here!! Especially with that moustache
Scott looks like the song is singing him instead of the other way around
just curious....was that crowd even awake?
That stache
Wasn't this haircut just after he cut his hair for the charity, Locks of Love? Seems about right in the timeline of Avett news :-)
Scotty accidentally put Seth's pants on. Look at that cuff.
hows that gum, Scott?
Mario Cantone on bass.
No, not yet :)
Is Scott eating?
@mtealey34 amen brotha! (sista?)
Touche`. I know the difference and generally use it correctly, but sometimes when YOU'RE annoyed you disregard correct spelling and punctuation. =)

5 people obviously couldn't get their sound to work...
what the hell is this about! anybody know? are they talking about moonshine lol
yeah it just seems weird to seem them without beards
Well they could at least nod their heads or smile or something.. Great performance though, including the banjo strumming because that's the way the song was written.

@darbina99 No one cares what you have to say. Just thought I'd let you know.

I just wish the banjo brother KNEW HOW TO PLAY THE BANJO!!!!!!!
He is chewing gum lol
yep chewing gum
I agree, not his best look :-)
love these guys... but they should fire the barber that butchered their beautiful hair. Seth looks so old.
Seth I really do love you but please don't ever sport this haircut again....
not a fan of the new look seth...
They've GOT to ditch that drummer. He looks like he's forced to be there. Recent songs with the Chili Pepper's drummer are much more alive.
He isn't with them anymore.
