- The Quadricycle was Henry Ford's first attempt to build a gasoline-powered automobile. It utilized commonly available materials: angle iron for the frame, a leather belt and chain drive for the transmission, and a buggy seat. Ford had to devise his own ignition system. He sold his Quadricycle for $200, then used the money to build his second car. Season 3 Episode 61.
That's great! I've never seen an 1896 Ford Quadricycle, so this is the nest best thing!
I love Henry Ford cars
Best show on TV .
We're glad you enjoy it! Subscribe to stay updated with new segments of Innovation Nation this fall!
matt anderson has the best job in the world !!! a very nice man also. i was pleased to meet him.
I studied the mechanics and wooden belt pulleys and such at the Henry Ford museum from the quadricycle car and a lot of the gearing of it doesn’t seem to make sense. I mean, to study the pulleys in relation to the wheel sprockets the motor would need to run like a steam engine. A Slow steam engine.
I wish they would have shown more of that
It’s pretty rustic, it has two cylinders made out of what look like some old sewer pipe. Probably were. You had to be good back then. I think about the only thing he had somebody else do was the crankshaft
Amazing car.
When he said quad squad
I cringed so hard
in the movie "the shootist" with John Wayne Richard Boone drove one like that
A car for beginners!
Just make it man driving to be a model for Men looking forward amen.
My next project build
A video of my LEGO MOC of Henry Ford's Quadricycle - czcams.com/video/L9qZX2fBqVg/video.html
No brakes?
who was the first person?
I miss Mo Rocca narrations.
100 years later 🙃
Whats the MPG?
when was looking for quadcycle tho was looking for a 4 wheel ""bicycle""
The Quadricycle was not "Ford's first attempt to build a gasoline-powered automobile." It was his first attempt to build an internal combustion engine-powered automobile. The Quadricycle ran on an alcohol fuel.
Model T enthusiasts may find this report interesting: YES, TIN LIZZIE WAS AN ALCOHOLIC - www.theautochannel.com/news/2019/04/20/660939-yes-tin-lizzie-was-alcoholic.html.
Anyone know a rough dimension of the frame/car? I'm going to build a "clone" version.
Yea its like atleast 1 meter long man
@@rubenmanssens thank you, I was guessing 5 feet.
Imagine his thought process using that for model to base on his future cars. His first thought was I'm going to have to upsize these axles like tenfold. Lengthen them threefold.
The independent single cylinder piston driven engines condensed into a inline 4 cylinder. Quadruple the size of tires. He was definitely working a hot streak. I could have did the same I think it's all a matter of financing. You can't explore your boundaries unless you are financed.
If he saw these modern vehicles he would surely think they are UFOs by the raw amount of noodling of the wire looms. It is so overly elaborated that it's obscene. These modern vehicles. Again it's always financing if I was financed I could integrate simple circuit wiring schematics throughout a vehicle that a 10-year-old could look at and determine what's wrong with it. Most cases these days even if you take your vehicle to the dealership you can tell they're really lost in a forest and even with their skilled trained level to specifically work on these many times their clueless.
yep fucking mammon controls the world i could house everyone and save them from the NWO if wasent for fucking $$$
The quadracycle had no brakes, wow. Why would you create a vehicle with no brakes! That's dangerous!
its not even fast enough to be dangerous, max speed is like 20 mph and braking is easy, thus its not really a car, its the first vehicle of henry to experiment what an automobile needs
Nobody is mentioning that Karl Benz did this in 1886 . . . . . . .
Right, but this was the first for Old Henry which is the point of this video.
They talk about H.Ford's first car
Not first car in the wourld
BTW I found Benz design is much better as its fit for 2 people
But they totally mentioned Ford drove his in 1886... this is about Ford after all they're at the Ford Museum its titled Ford so my guess is it's about Ford not Benz
Ummmm Marcus made the 1st automoblile.....hellluuurrrr.....it soooo wasnt Ford....
stealing the idea of the motor bicycle cart from the french and starting a compagnie. just like zippo did with the UCO lighter.
Stop touching the stick pink boy..
Ford goes german maybe
You talk to much
That's it? the history of the quadricycle? he made it in a shed. done. pathetic.
