Wow. This worked for me. My remote failed. I moved home and had a new internet provider so couldn't connect the firestick. Was about to throw the firestick out and replace but found your guide. Gave it a try and after about 20mins I got the firestick up and running on my new wifi and no need to buy a separate remote because it's now on my smartphone. Many many thanks.

Also, the hotspot can be set up on an iPhone, just go into Settings > General > About and change the name of the phone to the name of the old WiFi. It took a second for my Firestick to process, but it worked! Thanks again!!
Wow it worked! So glade I had my home wifi ssdi and password information saved in my phone's note pad. I changed the wifi information on one of the phones to the home's code and the other phone automatically logged right on and so did the amazon stick. Thank You!

Absolutely awesome. I have stopped using the remote as they stopped working. Amazon remote costs hell lot more than TV remote. Decided to go with mobile app. However, recently the wifi stopped working, and out of frustration, I decided to change wifi provider. OK, this was really cool. I feel so smart. I just so happen to have a personal Android, and another phone for work. Big shoutout to myself for sticking to Android, and huge shoutout to you for posting this! I just packed my TV in a box and had it as checked baggage from Portland->Detroit->NY, Ubers each way, walked up so many stairs, and have no batteries for my Firestick remote. Saved my life but I don’t have an android so I googled the iPhone situation. If you change your device name in general settings on the iPhone it will set that name as the hotspot name! Works great!

Hey first I want to say thank you sooo much!!!! What I did for those who dont have multiple devices is I changed my new home wifi router SSID and pass to the one my fire stick was last connected to and everything worked, and the added bonus is that now all my old wifi connected devices automatically sync to new wifi because it uses the same credentials as the my last place.

To use two iPhones, Just change the name of your phone under General> About > Name to the SSID of your wifi 😊 it will rename your Hotspot. And make sure you also change password as well.

Bro great video. So helpful. I was able to do this with an IPhone only using 1 phone. Granted I had a picture of all the old WiFi info. Network name and password. Step one settings, general, about and changed my iphones name to the old network name. Then customized my password to the old password. Turned on my hotspot Power cycled my tv and BAM tricked the tv into thinking my phone was my old modem. After that I used the fire tv app to change everything over to my new WiFi.

You dont need the old wifi.. U just need to put the old wifi 's SSID that in simple word means the "name of ur old wifi network" as the hotspots name and connect ur other phone (with the fire stick remote app) to the same hotspot (with ur previous wifi name) to it.. So now both ur fire tv and the remote ll be connected to the same network...and ur fire tv should start to work!

Thanks a lot. Excellent tip and method. After changing my network, after upgrading to fiber, firetv remote app did not work and I lost the remote. So configured hotspot with the old name with old said, am now able to access and operate fire stick and set it up for the new network
I didn’t have a second smart phone available and then I remembered CEC control and turned it on in my television settings and immediately was able to control my fire stick with my television remote. Kudos to you anyway, sensei!
