Dear Sir, In India their is a old saying that a perfect sales person is one who can sell a comb to bald person. However, in today's world it is a foolish thing to sell a comb to a bald person. It will be a cheating moreover you will lost that customer and his trust forever as that comb is of no use to him. Therfore when we say partners we mean to understand your actual needs and supply that machinery which will give benifit to your business needs. After all , your money is hard earned money. No offence please , Just shared my point. Regards...GDV

I'm in the Longview area of Texas (East) and can tell you that all the dealers I have dealt with in looking for a new mini excavator really seem like they couldn't care less if you buy from them. Oh, they'll show you around and get a quote together for you (CAT) but the others (Deere, Case) don't even do that. Ask a salesman to call you back...he doesn't. I guess they've got plenty of business and don't need to bother much with me even though the CAT dealer said that approx 2/3 of their business is small machines. Thanks for the vid.

several years ago we were after a backhoe and a 13t excavator, not much i know but we were looking to upgrade, 3 calls were made,2 of the big boys (both with 3 letter names) one came to do a valuation, i.e. photos and come out to site, one didn't even turn up ! one Firm sent a man out, 3 days later a 13t machine was on site on demo (it never left site as a deal was done within a day of arrival ! backhoe deal was done a day or two later ! i still deal with Mark Payne at Kellands even though I'm based the other side of the country, top service and the feeling of no matter how small the order, your are just as an important customer as someone buying a fleet of machines !!

Excellent point Sir! What I don't understand is that - unless have missed something - digger salesmen (and women) still work on commission. Can they REALLY afford to take such a laid back approach to customer service?

Mark is currently pricing me a mecalac 6mcr, ill continue to deal with Kellands all because of the service, i hope he does get a good commission !!

The dealer adds value with us due to the after sales care we get from them. Nobody in our area will match them on that. In terms of sales with my local dealer often I call in looking for the odd set of bucket teeth and leaving with a few buckets as well. They're a great price and the sales team are a big part of my decision to buy.

I dont know anything about heavy equipment. But i met a successful self employed used heavy equipment sales man who needs help running his business. Offered me an opportunity to help run his business. Thinking of taking him up on his offer but tentative due to lack of experience.

I'm pretty new in sales and I'm still trying to get the hang of it.
How do I handle a situation where I'm selling equipment which is of similar quality (I sell Unicarriers forklifts and my biggest competitor is Toyota) but less renown and at similar prices? I've been trying to make a point of the after sale support which they are pretty bad at but it means nothing to customers who've never had any experience with them.

From my experience in equipment sales, thorough research can go a long way. Most customers looking for equipment have already done their research. On the equipment they want, and the dealer they want to go through. It only makes sense for you to do the same. Know the competitor as well as you know your own machines.
Another thing, customers generally don’t want to be sold to by a salesman. They want to buy machines from people they know. Go in, have a conversation that isn’t related to business. Ask them how they are doing how their family is. And at the end throw in a little something about your company and machines. Don’t be a bother. Be a problem solver.
The personal touch is magic when done correctly.
Also, get in doors and faces. The more you are around, the more they will remember you. Don’t stop and and chat business every single time you go in there. Build a relationship with the customer, and the business will come.
My two cents as a CAT rental salesman.

    good morning
The offer is great, good and interesting, so I ask you to send some well-known site for auctions of heavy equipment so that I can search for some equipment and also get a good deal. Thank you, but your good cooperation with me
