    Wow Danno, couldnt believe how many things I have the same, carbon copy including the No.1 a real mattress........ you did mention flashlights I think an absolute must is a headtorch, I have three or four and also baby wipes I find very useful.And I always carry a three foot length of 2" steel tube for leverage on spanners or loads of other uses.

      Yeah for me I'm 43 but I have the house and wife and 4 kids and animals and full package. But now that I'm divorced and feeling great, it's just me and instead of getting another house again, I too might just stay simple and fulltime in a class b as my home.

    Coach Net Roadside assistance is GREAT! If you break down, they have a technical line where you can ask questions and most likely, save a lot of time and money (if you're a newbie) .... also ... Really good coach battery .... On a hot day when you're boondocking, on the road, in a Walmart and you don't have enough cranking power to boost the generator and run the RV ... Get a good battery ... A hub cap remover (10 bucks on Amazon) ... remove those hubs in two seconds to check the air on those dually's ....

  • @sarjim4381
    @sarjim4381 Před 7 lety

    I'd add a weather radio that has an alert function as a must have. Those small weather radios, while they'll pick up the weather band, won't warn you when in the middle of the night when there's an incoming storm, and that's when you really need it. Camping means going to places you're not necessarily familiar with, so it's doubly important to have a weather radio there.

    • @WanderDano
      @WanderDano  Před 7 lety

      I have one - could have sworn I included it. Yeah a REAL one would be better tho.

    • @sarjim4381
      @sarjim4381 Před 7 lety

      You had a little Weather Channel radio but it didn't look like it did alerts, just picked up the weather band. That's something people have to look for to make sure what they are buying will also pick up alerts when it's on standby. I'm kind of a weather nerd so I keep up what's happening with the weather but I traveled all over the country. I wasn't conversant enough with the weather risks in some place like Montana to feel comfortable not having a weather radio to alert me about a hazard. The last place you want to be with a severe storm bearing down on you is in an RV.

    • @WanderDano
      @WanderDano  Před 7 lety

    I thought my Wilson was broken too, but I think it was because of my fiberglass roof. They are designed to be used on metal roofs because the metal greatly helps the antenna. I upgraded to a slightly larger antenna and 3m'd a 12"x12" piece of steel to my fiberglass roof for the antenna to magnet to, and I saw the wilson raise the bars for the first time since I bought it.

Another thing are wheel covers to protect the tires from UV rays. I read a few comments and didn't notice anyone mentioning Fire/CO detectors. Nice list, i'd add one decent cast iron skillet. They can be used on just about any cooking surface including fires and they can be used for self defense.. Their heavy and sturdy but they hold up to everything but rust. But if you store it right and use often, I find rust isnt too big a issue. Bed toppers are also good but can be easier to find to fit in the RV/Campers that arent big enough for a standard bed. Love the list.

    Wando Dano - I'm glad I found this video and even tho it's older I hope you'll reply to a few questions.
    The Husband is in Winkler Manitoba Canada, home of Leisure Travel Vans, for a 'before we commit' factory tour. $150,000 USD is cash money out of our investment fund and we want to be sure we do it right the first time and have no regrets. We chose the Unity FX because of it's exterior dimensions [21'1" L, 7'10.5" W, 10'6" H incl AC], interior headroom [6'5"], the slide out with a walk around nearly king size Murhey Bed and the standard's list, the Mercedes cut away frame, exterior storage, interior closets, drawers, the 2 year roadside assistance freebie etc as well as an awesome floor plan.
    Your tips and hints are extremely valuable and I've been making notes. What we'd like is your opinion regarding the few options on our 'build list'....
    A diesel Onan 3.2 KW generator rather than gas. We figured we're fueling the house engine with diesel anyway.
    Alcoa aluminum wheels.
    Upgraded ceiling fans with rain sensors.
    400 W solar panels.
    Electric stabilizer jacks.
    Macerator pump drain line.
    Whole house surge protector.
    Wi-Fi extender with 4G.
    Hope you have time to reply back, thanks!!

    • @WanderDano
      @WanderDano  Před 6 lety

      ok... BUT BUT -- these are JUST opinions.. I am not an expert. :)
      1. I'd agree on the genny - life would seem simple if both are diesel
      2. the wheels seem like a fine choice
      3. I don't have rain sensor fan and haven't had any problems but wouldn't think they are a bad thing.
      4. That is a good amount of solar - I think it comes down to how you want to "camp". If you plan to boondock a lot great thing to have.. if mostly being on power not as much. I'd guess it is pricey but having the system installed at the factory will make it nice and clean.
      5. I don't have stabilizer jacks... but sure wish I did !!! get those lol
      6. The macerator can be great - I've heard some have problems with them but overall people I know with them seem to like them.
      7. Surge protector is ALWAYS a good thing to protect the electrical system.
      8. Wifi extender is good to have - depends on cost they are charging for it opposed to after market.
      I hope my OPINIONS have been helpful lol all the best and good luck with your upcoming purchase. :)

      @46619TAB Před 6 lety

      You remind me of my dad, NEVER leave the house without a roll of duct tape in the car because if you don't know you just don't know. He was pretty handy with DYI projects and had enough stuff to cover just about any emergency. Of the CZcams RVers we're subscribed to, you seem to have been doing this for a long time and always offer a tip or hint we'd not thought of or seen before from other RVers so that's why I asked for your opinion!! Plus your when shit happens deal with it attitude!!
      The options add $18,200 with the genny taking up $7800 of the total. The Wi Fi extender is $845, the solar is offered as a 200 W or a 400 W for $2860 and we want the larger because if you don't know..... and both are factory installed, no aftermarket holes in the roof. The fan option is $455 each but we see it as a safety feature and there's only two. The surge protector is $455 but this house is loaded with electronics and it seemed a MUST HAVE!!
      THANK YOU for your opinions regarding our concerns, I feel better with our choices!!
      Husband called while I was writing this and said "pull the trigger", I'll call the local dealer [2 hrs away in Holland MI] in the morning and have an appt set before his plane lands later in the day. Now I have to go do my "I'm so Excited" dance, LOL!

    • @WanderDano
      @WanderDano  Před 6 lety

      I understand your logic and thinking. I guess it can come down to what you can afford and what "value" you see in each item. I haven't priced all those items but some seem good and some a bit high - not sure what kind of wifi extender you get for 845 but that and the fan seem a little high but again I don't know prices. I think the genny and solar seems good. but the most important thing at the end of the day is being happy with what you buy. I think you will end up with a beautiful shiny awesome RV.. but keep a roll of duct tape.. ya know - just in case! lol all the best

    Your generator is actually a very good way to recharge batteries. The glitch in the system is almost always the cheap converter/chargers that come with most RVs, especially a class B. Most of them can't pass more than about 10 amps an hour. If you have 150 amps work of battery and it's only half discharged, it will still take almost 8 hours to top off the battery. You can get a PowerMax 35 or 45 amp converter/charger for about $100. That same 50% discharged battery will now take between two and three hours to recharge your battery.

    I like the 5 gallon water jug with hand pump. Used to think I needed a 100 gallon tank like on bigger class As. But I bet 5 gallons probably works just fine. Where did you buy the hand pump? Pretty cool. And in video about charging house batteries. I assumed the generator would do well charging house batteries but I wouldn't know. Hmm, there has to be a way to charge house batteries quickly with modern technology now? Who knows. What's your opinion of buying a used class b verses building your own class b van? Cheapest entry point I'm thinking is buying a used class b. If i do a custom van build I bet it could cost double the price.

    • @WanderDano
      @WanderDano  Před 5 lety +1

      I like the 5 gallon jug because I am kinda picky about drinking water. Even using theRV filters I'm not always thrilled about camp water so I buy water or refill the 5 gallon jug at a Meijer or walmart. I haven't had any issues with the onboard fresh water tank size for cooking or showers. The genny will slow charge the house batteries well. Some people will run genny and then connect a battery charger to an ac outlet then connect to batteries for faster charging. I haven't had problems with too slow of charging so I haven't done it myself but they say it works a bit quicker. A self build is a really cool idea, you just have to have the skills and then realize if you want all the things in a normal class B -- those pieces parts can be pretty pricey. a two or three way fridge isn''t cheap not to mention all the other things. Yes I think a build would take time, patience and money but in the end you could have it set up exactly how you wanted it.

    In some cases, Dow Corning Molykote 55 o-ring lubricant would be better than plumber's grease.
    Despite being made for industrial and military applications, it is available on the open market at Amazon.com.
    I know firsthand that it does what its labeling claims- it swells and preserves natural rubber, not just for plumbing, but for other rubber items on an RV or any other type of vehicle. I's rather costly, but a worthwhile expense if one plans to keep a vehicle for a long time.

    You said the AC adaptor coverts 30 amps to 110. That is incorrect. Those adaptors convert 110 AC @ 30 amps to 110 AC @15 amps. You can run most AC units but I recommend letting the built in battery charger top up the RV battery a little first before turning on the AC and never run a microwave and AC at the same time on the adaptor. The adaptor has a one time 15 amp fuse built in, but more than likely the breaker at the panel will trip first.

The pressure cooker was a GREAT buy, did it come with the little"jiggler" that sits on top of the lid vent? I didn't see that you had one in the video. If it didn't come with one, you can get one on Amazon. The jiggler helps with building up the "pressure" and regulates the "pressure", and it indicates if the heat needs to be turned down [or up]. Thank you for this. Is an Air compressor a want? So would you not recommend the EvaDry unit? The thing I am not fond of w/ the DampRid is buying all those plastic buckets. Do you inspect your fire extinguishers and alarms on an annual or seasonal basis? Just looked into AAA Plus (rv coverage) and it's about $6/month. Totally worth it. (Especially for a single female.) Good advice about the Fridge, didn't think of that! I worked in Mech. Engineering for 10 years so I am way more mechanically inclined than I am electrically. I recently went to Half Priced Books and got some RV books, I'm learning a lot. Thanks again, bud. :)

      @WanderDano  Před 9 lety

      Angela M I like having the air compressor - great for the bike and buzzboard and in an emergency I like to think if I had to plug a tire it could get me to a shop. Because honestly jacking a Class B up on the side of the road is a risky thing!! I have seen the EvaDry and now that you mentioned it I looked again and will give one a try. You can buy bigger refill bags of damp rid but I admit it can also make a mess if spilled. I will honestly give EvaDry a try.. so thanks very much for the idea. I look at the fire extinguisher maybe one every week or two and test the other sensors. That is a good AAA deal!! If you do your research you will do fine... I mean I am no Rocket Surgeon. lol

Duct tape just would not work in the temp extremes you find in space. Cell phone reception.. no matter who your carrier is you will not get reception at her house because, where her home is at, it's in a reception shadow, meaning before you get to her house you will have full reception and right after it you'll have full reception as well, but on it... nope.

I however have 3 dergs and one big fat yellow cat who sheds like there is no tomorrow... Oh well we gotta love 'em and you know you'd miss em if they came up missing. You mentioned in this video that having the onboard generator is important. How bad is the noise or vibrations from your generator and air conditioner? Is it bad to the point where it’s annoying or keeps you awake?

    • @WanderDano
      @WanderDano  Před 6 lety

      I would say both are things you get used to and not that bad. The AC can take some getting used to because it is 3ft above the bed, which is the norm for Class B's. I have honestly gotten to where I am ok with it. I am grateful that my generator is in the front of the RV and not near the bed. The Onan 2800 really is very quiet and doesn't bother me. I will also say tho - I haven't left the genny running at night while I sleep - I tend to just use fans instead. Hope that helps
