    FYI... As far as licensing goes, I think the "one time fee" gives you full use of the software and 1 year of upgrades. After that, you have to pay again to get future updates. You can keep the version you have, but won't receive updates.

    Thanks for the review. I have the program myself, and it way exeeded all my expectations with old videos. A fast computer is a must, unless you have more time than money. I use a i9 13gen cpu with a RTX 4080 and it plows through rendering time.

    Nice review Chris! Was just testing this out today. It's nice that they trust the software enough to give you a free demo with watermark. You can see exactly how it'll preform. It's impressive!

    I have a question, what produces the best quality?
    Upscaling from 1080 to 4k or scaling 30fps to 60fps in 4k?
    Which takes longer to render?

    Thank you for this review, I just purchased the Video AI enhancer through your link. Hopefully it gives you the affiliate credit. There was unfortunately no discount coupon available as far as I saw, but I was going to buy anyway.

    Without having a bad ass processor and 128 gigs of ram, What I see happening is home testing 20 seconds and if pleased, taking my video to people in my town to upscale for me. Sounds pricey, right? But something I'd do 1 to 3 times over a big period. If people charged me 250 bucks to upscale my 11 minute short film noir from 2012 shot with a Canon 5D Mark II, It's a bargain.

    Thank you for the review.
    My question is, can Topaz Video AI also improve a video without upscaling it? So, if I have 1920x1080 footage, and make the output also 1920x1080, will this enhance the video, or must I go to 4k resolution?

    • @selfmadenewbie
      @selfmadenewbie  Před 10 měsíci +3

      Yes, but even if it only did 4K, shrinking back to 1080p in a video editor would be simple.

      I tried a 4k monitor, but with a 32" screen I couldn't tell the difference between top quality (Blu-Ray) 1080 and 4k. I intend to get the app and expect to get the results that you are talking about with lower quality 1080p.

    I am wondering if this would help with Stop Motion. Say I have 12 images of an action figure I am trying to get moving. Can this software will in the other 12 frames to make it appear 24 FPS? I realize this is a stretch but thought maybe you would know. Thanks

      it may do an okay job
      but 12 is such a low framerate to work with
      when it comes to animation it's best not to interpolate

    You talk about the process time being “slow”. But what does that mean? 30 mins? 3hours?

      The core functionality, yes. But you’d need to google how to download models locally

    Is it possible to upscale standard VHS (720 x 480 pixels) by a factor of 2 and truly improve the quality? I tried the demo version and the result was awful. What went wrong?

    • @mavfan1
      @mavfan1 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Yes it’s possible but you must play around with the settings. For lower res I first use the fine tune/enhance without upscaling and then use that enhanced file to run it again but upscale it. I get good results but it can’t do miracles. If you try to upscale too much it will look awful as it has to do too much. Try a variety of settings on a small clip so you won’t waste time rendering the whole video only to find the results aren’t what you want.
