Creating a classic D&D tavern | Crafted Campaign: Part 1

- In this video, I'll be creating a classic D&D party and a miniature medieval tavern. The party is based on the character sheets found in the Dungeons and Dragons: Dragons of Stormwreck Island starter box. The tavern is made from XPS foam and 3D printed bits. The medieval tavern is an essential terrain build for RPGs and can also be used for different building interiors by swapping out the scatter terrain.

Makes awesome tavern terrain and the party fights the enemy outside…. Sounds about right lol.
Haha-recreating the frustration of a real D&D game 😂
How is your channel so underrated... Your crafts are so unique and awesome
Thank you! 🙌
Couldn't agree more
The exposed floor joists was an excellent choice.
Thanks Jordan, it's one of my favourite parts as well 🙌
Great work the floor construction pleases my carpenter brain
Thank you! 😀
I absolutely love this! Very inspiring.
Thank you! 🙌
Wow, I've never been this early for one of your builds, Awesome tavern build! Arguably the most important building needed for a D&D Session!
Thanks Chason! Glad you enjoyed the video.
YES
🙌🏻
This is so good! You inspired me making my own buildings, thank you and just subscribed!!
I build things too, but I use what one might call trash and repurpose things for my builds. I'm working on a Tavern for DnD my wife has named The Witch's Tit, lol but I'm using cardboard and the material from a 6 pack of beer, and because someone tossed out a multi picture frame as one cell was cracked i was able to salavage 4 cute little windows for my tavern made of real glass I plan to make stained glass look. I'm also using popsicle sticks and toothpicks, and i dont have a 3D printer...I am my own 3D printer lol, anyway i enjoy your story telling builds that even though I build differently than you, I like your channel so subscription earned and thumbs up always from me!!! I hope your channel grows!!!
❤️ 👍
Thank you! And that’s cool, there’s definitely an art in using repurposed items. Glad you enjoyed the video 🙌🏻
Wowww... Super!
It makes me wish to be in a tavern drinking a beer with an elf, a dwarf, a magician and let's begin the adventure.
Haha, that's great. Thanks!
As always, just crushing it dude. Thanks again for your inspiring builds.
Thanks Locke, it's always appreciated. Glad to hear that.
I’ve just finished building my first project - modular wooden structures from your tutorial; and then I notice that you’ve posted a new video. This is a very successful hobby day! :D
Nice! Those are a great build to start with. The techniques in that video are the building blocks for a lot of other builds.
@@OkayHobbyTime Yeah, agreed - time consumming, but worth the final effect after all ^^ Cannot wait to get down to painting, hope that the final result will be at least half as impressive as yours :P Cheers mate!
There is a wonderfully consistent style across all your pieces. You have really nailed a 'look and feel'. You have a good eye for colour palettes too.
Thank you! I have a background in a design and I find that there's a bunch that transfers over to this hobby.
Really awesome build my friend. I cant wait for the next upload!
Very cool concept video! I think there is some pretty broad appeal and it was a good length! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Jordan-it's appreciated!
really impressive
I like that you go over every step, allowing anyone to follow along and ultimately achieve the same results. Great work!
i personally would make the walls with magnets on the end so i can take it apart and store it flat but the end product looks amazing~!
Thank you! And yes, that's a great idea for transportation. 🙌
Awesome job! Looks great!
Thank you! 😀
Your style is hands down my favorite of anyone I've come across. Your builds look so CLEAN and have this sort of... cartoon realism? To me it is the absolute perfect aesthetic for tabletop gaming. Does the new terrain template for this include scale of the windows, floors planks, etc? I think you are running 32mm scale from the looks of it, but without clear size measurements I always tend to cut things too small.
With respects to the windows; it looks like you just stacked two of the "medieval windows" from Thingiverse you used in the Potion Shop Build? I'm guessing just pop the STL in software and stack two of em?
Hey Mittens, really glad to hear that! And that's right, my builds are 32mm scale. I made sure to include the dimensions of everything within the plans. Including window size. planks, etc. For the windows, the creator on Thingiverse uploaded a stacked version.
@@OkayHobbyTime Thanks! I just purchased the template, but had one question: Are the exterior walls the same thickness as the "top and bottom beam"? I see length and height, but wasn't seeing the thickness for the walls themselves.
@@SpenceBeGarbage Hey Mittens, thanks for the support. And yep-same thickness as the beams. 3mm thick. Good luck with the build!
Amazing work! Love your videos!
Thank you! Glad to hear that 🙌
Love your straight forward, high quality builds. Very inspiring and enjoyable to watch.
Love to see some dungeons and temple type builds, I think your interpretation would be great. Please keep it up
Thanks Steve! Happy to hear you're enjoying the videos. Definitely more to come, including dungeon stuff.
Really enjoy the painting and color choice in your builds, everything looks really warm and earthy. Very cozy. I probably wouldn't have the patience for laying out the floorboards like that, I tend to just engrave all my flooring with pencil and comb and sculpting tools and such.
Thank you! Haha yes, it's time consuming this way. A good show or podcast in the background is recommended if going this route.
I really enjoyed this series. I hope you make more, three was just a start.
Glad to hear that! The story definitely continues-stay tuned. 🙌
So simple yet so effective. I really, really need to invest in a resin printer in the new year I think. Waiting and paying for miniatures on etsy is holding back so many works in progress I have on the go right now. Awesome stuff and the paint job on the minis are top notch too. Thanks for sharing
Thanks! The printer has been such a great addition for me. It's a bit of a hobby on it's own, but once you get used to it it opens up so many possibilities.
Magnificent work! Cheers from Brazil!
Thanks for watching! 🙌
Beautifully done!
Thank you! 🙌
You make this look easy. Well done. I've just ordered a tavern set to paint. Good inspiration.
Haha, thank you! And glad to hear that.
Wonderful work you made here! 😎
I particularly love how clean and neat both you crafting and your paintjob looks!
Thank you, Pieter!
What an amazing attention to detail
Thank you! 🙌
Your works look so clean and precise. Truly impressive!
Thanks Ren! Glad to hear you're enjoying the videos.
That was great, lots of fun too.
Thanks for watching!
Wow, that's incredible work!
Thank you very much! 🙌🏻
Amazing tavern, I think I will build this one!
Thank you and good luck with the build!
Really cool Building. Great video. Very atmospheric. Well done👏👏👌😎
Best regards Chicken
Thanks Chicken! 🙌
Dude this was amazing. Inspiring for sure. I have been bored with DnD-esque RPG videos games lately and wanted to try my hand and being creative and making some dungeon/tavern modules. While this might be out of my league, you made it seem really doable. Thanks
Thank you! And really glad to hear that. I'd say jump in-it's really fulfilling making stuff by hand like this.
makes me realy want a resin printer lol
They're really fun. I have a video coming out soon that is a beginners guide to resin printers-stay tuned!
Awesome as always! Hopefully your channel will blow up enough to get you a bigger crafting area :)
Thanks Tony-it's appreciated!
Love it! Miniature taverns are underrated! I did one as well. Yours is awesome!
Thank you! 🙌
My only criticism would be to make the floor into tiles to make it easier to run combats. But, of course, everything looks awesome AF.
Yeah that's a great adaption if needed. Thanks for watching!
J'adore c'est vraiment du bon boulot! c'est très inspirant 🙂
Merci! 😀
lovely video killer
Thank you! 🙌
Sooo good!
Thank you!
Love fhe floor
Thanks Tommy!
Just came across your video. That is a great looking build. I especially like the color scheme. Those lighter walls contrast nicely with the browns and grays.
I just subscribed and will be checking out some of your other videos next.
Glad to hear that-thanks!
I discovered you by chance on instagram, never been more happy…Your creations are simply incredible, and so so inspiring! Keep going like that man! You are landed in Italy
Hi Samuele, I'm really glad to hear you're enjoying the builds-thanks!
makes me wish soemone would build a real medieval tavern
Could you try a DnD Christmas Village like those Lemax village displays in people houses during Christmas?
Haha, I remember going to the mall as a kid and staring at those Christmas villages. Probably what got me hooked on miniatures. I'll think of some sort of holiday special for the channel.
Great build, sad that the party did not fight in the tavern, you probably had a street terrain ready ;) (joking) good shit!
Haha, I agree! Maybe this piece will make a re appearance in the story...
is this a new channel? bro your craft is good
Thank you! I started midway through 2021 🙌
I watched this video yesterday, and I had to rewatch it today because I noticed that I had NOT noticed something previously: The music!
I'm so happy that you, @Okay Hobby Time chose this music for the background instead of the previously used music. I don't know if you read my comment in the elemental mineshaft-video, but the music you used here goes so well with building a tavern that I didn't notice the change at first. And I think that's what you really want, just something in the background that enhances and suits the mood and theme. Perfect choice, in this video.
And great build as always. I wasn't sure making the floor beams using foam would work, but it certainly looked stable in the end. I'm also always surprised at how well the wood textures looks after painting, but have you thought about ways to make it more effectively? Is it possible to hook a crooked fork to the device or something?
Hey Soylent, I was meaning to get back to you earlier. I saw it and it was very helpful-thanks! I'm also thinking how I could speed up the wood process. I think I'm used to it by now though. The benefit of doing fewer lines at once is that I can modulate the depth with each pass so it's more random looking.
@@OkayHobbyTime You're right! Uniform planks wouldn't look good. I'm just looking for lazy solutions, haha!
Damn that looks good. Minus video related stuff, how long did this take in total?
Something like this might be a week of hobbying in the evening. Hard to say exactly. But a lot of the build is repetitive so it's not super time intensive.
Sick build! Love your videos
Hey there, I measured and my tables are the same size-5.4cm. It might just be the camera making them look bigger than actual size!
It looks awesome! What 3D printer do you use?
Thank you! I use an Anycubic Mono 4k. A bit older compared to the new 8k printers out right now, but I find that it still does a great job.
That is a nice looking piece. What scale is it? It looks slightly larger than normal.
Thank you! My miniatures are about 32mm scale. This was built to fit them but with some extra room for playability during fights, etc.
Nooooo why did you cure them with the supports on!?!
Much love for this video! What size/scale are the minis you used?
Thanks! The scale I use is 32mm. This size seems to be trending as the new scale for tabletop minis.
Love your content! Definately inspired. Also what airbrush do you use?? need this as a mini printer 🤩😭
Thank you! Glad to hear that. And I use an Iwata CR.
I have a Proxxon as well. How does it feel when you burn the tip of your fingers? You're cutting it very close. heh
It's definitley not the best feeling! haha
I was curious...
I usually remove supports before curing. Is there any advantage to curring first?
I prefer removing supports with my bare hands to have more control and also save on gloves. I always submerge the cured models in hot water so they become really easy to remove, almost like the uncured state. I was thinking of doing a video that demonstrates my full process.
I cant fine the tiles for the window inserts. Where do i find those?
Hey Adam! Again a cool video! Do you happen to have a link for the windows, doors and the miniatures you print shown in the video? I also bought a 4K 3D printer and at Christmas I want to recreate your videos! cheers! Fraenky ❤
Thank you as always, Fraenky. Glad you enjoyed it! The doors I use are from this kit: www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-modular-town-props-pre-supported-100651 and the windows are from here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:3646814
@@OkayHobbyTime thx ma friend 🥳🥳🥳
Can i ask you where i can find those windows file ti print them?
And by the way incredible job!
Thank you! Windows are from Thingiverse under "medieval windows".
Where'd you get the stls for the heroes?
nevermind, just had to keep watching 5 seconds to find out lol. Keep up the great vids!
Thank you! 👍🏻
That floor's got some pretty significant sag iin the middle... I'd add something to the bottom to strengthen the whole thing, otherwise you're just begging to have an unfortunate accident
Hi Jay, it's the nature of using foam. The build is surprisingly durable and is no where near the breaking point though-just a bit flexible.
Where do you get your 3D Printed Windows and doors from?
Hi there, here's a link to the windows: www.thingiverse.com/thing:3646814. And here's a link to the set that contains the doors: www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-modular-town-props-pre-supported-100651
Can you provide a link to the miniature pieces that you used?
Sure. Tables: www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-the-saloon-table-169091 Barrels: www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-ale-barrel-217952 and Windows: www.thingiverse.com/thing:3646814
There is a new 5th edition starter set??
Dragons of Stormwreck Isle! It came out last year.
hey do the 3d files come with the plans ?
Hi Scott, unfortunately I do not have 3D files available. The plans are a PDF template of the build, including all measurements.
Where did you get the 3D files for those windows?
Hey, they're listed as "medieval windows" on Thingiverse
Amazing! 👍 I was wondering though, if you're also good at making miniature diorama scale models of fireplaces ? Because I could use your expertise on how I should go about making a miniature version of one. Do you have an email where I could discuss further details about it? 👍
Thank you! I was thinking about releasing mini builds between my larger builds for things just like this. There's an email under the "about" section of my page. Happy to help.
@@OkayHobbyTime hmm, all i see are your social media links and youtube channel link shown there..🤔
what is overbrushing?
It's similar to drybrushing but with more paint. The goal is to cover everything but the deepest recesses. This creates variation / shadows in the paint job.
What printer and resin do you use?
Hi there, I use an Anycubic Proton Mono with Anycubic's grey resin. I mix a bit of Siraya Tech Tenacious into my anycubic resin bottles to add some durability.
@@OkayHobbyTime Thank you, everything looks great.
This psychopath did not just cure those minis with the supports on them
Hahaha. I really don't like removing supports with gloves. I'd rather cure them first and barehand remove the supports. I let the cured models sit in really hot water first. The supports come off very easy.
That’s a lot of work for a 10 second scene.
Haha, I know! It's getting a lot of use off-camera, though. 👍
3d print... this channel is not for me. thumb down
Hey JC, I wouldn't let that discourage you-substitute with handmade wherever it makes sense. I also plan on releasing more cost-effective videos where there's no extra tools or printing needed-so stay tuned and check back in the future!
