Even Dalai Lama can be wrong on some subjects, like Hitler could be right on some, the definition of democracy do sound`s good, but Im yet to come cross one that work out the definition, seems like money always rule, not the people, for democracy to work we would all have to be Buddhist monks or close (on the mental plain) or the lower ego will rule not the higher self, like it do with materialism, to have a open mind, you need to be able to think critical for yourself (The Trivium: Grammar, logic and rhetoric) not base our wives on the person (ad hominem) where ever its in a positive or negative form
"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it" -Aristotle

Interesting that you say that because the traditional system as it was in Tibet was one of serfdom where people were serfs to the Dalai Lama of the time. It was voluntary serfdom but still psuedo-slavery and definitely as far as you can get from democracy.
Currently Dalai Lama however is a man shaped by his experiences and persecution and I respect him greatly. He is full of love. I'm not so keen on his links with the rich and famous and the way he is bankrolled though.

On the other hand his reincarnation will be quite the event, and I don't mean just the inevitable shitstorm, but finally someone proving that reincarnation works. That's bound to provoke some re-evaluation of our commonly held beliefs and worldviews.

I think anyone meeting His Holiness the Dalai Lama is a little out of their depth. At the end, Larry King says:" You do not bow to me. I bow to you." That is respect and I think His Holiness knew it throughout the interview and was not offended. What a shame that the Chinese government did not realise what a treasure they had with this man. Had he influenced China, then that country would be a powerhouse for good. Seeing this interview was a moving experience. Larry King gave His Holiness ample opportunity to speak. That makes him a better interviewer than most.

Then about gays he said it right again, if you believe on a certain religion you have to follow that otherwise you will live in a duality, however if you do not believe in any religion you must satisfy yourself and the gay marriage is complete not my business, I loved that. The only bad thing in gay marriage is the hate of the people who do not agree. That is the big difference between Budism And the res of religions, beside that Budism is a way of living
