    Very nice video - although it would be useful to know, for the wider audience, that this style of dastaar is actually a variation of the Kenyan style, rather than an original UK style. When Singh's came over from East Africa to the UK, they used to sport these pointy turbans (they applied starch to theirs). Nowadays, every youngster in the UK ties their own variation of this Kenyan style. The proper style is longer and starched. Well done guys!

    • @Chillz_566
      @Chillz_566 Před rokem +1

      @@tegsingh7484 it makes it very solid and tough, and you can take it on and off like a hat. Just type in how to starch a pagg and a video by gurminder sagoo (I think that was his name will show you how to do it). You basically take corn starch, mix it with lukewarm water and then add the mixture to boiling water until it starts to thicken. You then use a ladle to pour some onto a washed pagg and leave it to dry, and when it is half dry you do pooni on it. You add a very little bit water onto it before you tie it, and after you wear it for a few hours it will be rock solid and stay like a hat for months, wear you can take it on and off. It can hurt your ears a tiny bit tho, but that fades soon.

      @Chillz_566 Před rokem +1

      @@tegsingh7484 here is how to starch it. Good luck! : BTW, when Sikhs were in the army in British India, the white officials in the army said that they could only wear starched turbans, because it was solid like a helmet and saved time

    Man that turban looks so crisp bro. I used to have a haircut but now keeping my hair. I'm struggling because my hair is sticking out of my turban when I tie it. My hair is approx 4 inches long right now. It's too short to tie it up and manage it neatly in a jurha yet it's long enough to stick out everywhere. Some pointers would be greatly appreciated thank you !

      Use a bajj to tuck your hair in. Or wear a patka underneath before you tie a pagh so your hair doesn't stick out.

    Great tutorial. I am curious though. Does the turban impair your hearing? Do you wear different colors for any celebrations? Do you wear any color you like? Does this style of making this turban signify a certain tribe or region? The material looks like it would fall apart if it's washed, so is it washable? Thank you for your reply.

    • @manni3087
      @manni3087 Před 3 lety +2

      I'm not the person in the video, but some of these questions are easy to answer. Colours are usually up to the person wearing the turban. During celebrations we usually want to match with different colors. Turban styles don't signify tribes. However, this style is very popular with UK Sikhs, so you'll see it often over there. The material is definitely washable. It can impair hearing depending on how thick you tie it around the ears. Usually not an issue

      There are a lot of different styles of sikh turban. All serve different purposes and can also represent different factions. Like akj, nihang,etc. all factions follow Sikhism the same, except they all have different jobs. Like nihangs are the sikh army. The turban shown above is a uk style turban, it is inspired from a more orthodox style called the Gurmukhi dastar. There is also a warrior turban called the Dumala which is used by sikhs in war. Some turbans are better suited for battle or sports while some are better for formal occasions and city life

      +xDizzyx88 Skills. :p :)
      He put his hair in a ponytail. Then he good some hair from the front. Took the ponytail from the top and put it with the front ones. BAZAM. Then his hair was gone.
      Then he put the turban on like a patka.

      the Turban I used in the video was 3.5 Meter. it gives 3 time roll arounds. in case you need 4 turn arounds then you can go for 5 meters.
