    I’ve been shooting and reloading for… wow, 43 years. It still amazes me how very similar loads can shoot completely different. Bought a CZ 557 in 6.5 Creedmoor last year and it came with a. box of 120gr Remington Core Locks. 100 yards and the groups were 3+ inches with me and my son shooting. I didn’t measure them exactly because they were so bad. I had loaded some 120gr Hornady ELD’s and those groups measured under 3/4’s of an inch. If I had shot only the Remingtons I would have sold it quickly.

      I've never noticed until my brother started loading his own. Even just a little tiny bit more or less powder makes a world of difference. It's amazing.

      I just found the 6.5 target. Reload groups were .83 and .56, Factory load group is 3.7”.

    Quick tip for getting those Norma shell out of their holder. When you are holding the shell holder, take your thumb on the front of it push in and up on the cartridge by the shoulder. They pop right up 👍

    It is quite amazing how these budget guns shoot and how different some ammo can be.

    A couple of nice sensible upgrades got things moving along. A bit of hand loading should help it along some more. And possibly bedding the action .in the stock

    The 308 with that twist rate likes the 150s.. Federal is my favorite ammo and performs very well.

      That barrel in his 308 is optimized for 165gr and 168gr bullets.

    I can tell the difference between the deer and elk. The elk is much larger. ( Lol ). It's always amazed me how load's would work different in different barrel's. I saw a good budget rifle the other day, a Blazer R8 and it was only 10k. How many do you want? I think I'll stick with the Ruger American as you've shown it's less expensive to make upgrade's. Besides with my luck my group's would be worse. Excellent video and have a great day! Ruger Rich

    I would try holding onto the forend of the rifle. I’m sure the amount of “jump” isn’t the same every shot. That way the rifle is recoiling more back into your shoulder instead of the muzzle jumping all over the place

      I put A2 flash hider on my SAVAGE axis
      308 win and it stop jumping around.
      It pushes down just right.

    Try Norma Bond Strike 150 grn Who Tee Who got really good groups with it in a full custom 308

  • @MikeD-it9qb

    The twist rate for that barrel doesn’t like the heavier 308 loadings. Hence why the 150 gr loadings group so we’ll.
    Grab some 168 gr match and you will see an improvement in match ammo performance.

    I like TULA ammo for shooting and hunting like the result good for me.
    For the price 👍🏽 I'v got expensive ammo with no good results. With a A2 flash hider works perfect no jumping around

    Norma whitetail are loaded slower they are like 70 or so fps slower muzzle velocity wise.

  • @davidrussell631
    @davidrussell631 Před 2 lety +1

    Very nice looking stock! No surprise the Norma grouped well. Lots of guns just don’t like the heavier bullets. My guess is you might need more velocity to stabilize the heavier bullet quicker. Able to work up any 180 g hand loads?

    • @Spidermonkey2a
      @Spidermonkey2a  Před 2 lety +1

    • @Wildwestwrangler
      @Wildwestwrangler Před rokem +1

      Has to do more with the twist rate than velocity. The savage barrels are optimized for 165gr and 168gr bullet weights.

    How much time between each group? I keep hearing unless you have a heavy barrel or otherwise built for sustained shooting that after 3 shots you should wait about a half hour before the next group.

    • @Spidermonkey2a
      @Spidermonkey2a  Před 2 lety +1

      @@Spidermonkey2a I just bought a Savage Axis .308 (no accutrigger) and was thinking of getting a Boyd's laminated agility stock with bedding posts. I put in an M.Carbo trigger spring replacement before I ever shot the rifle. Made a huge difference. But the Accutrigger model does not need it. Maybe next year I will put up the money for the stock.

  • @gascheck8151
    @gascheck8151 Před 2 lety +1

    Yes definitely an improvement. You may want to consider shading your face and rifle from the sun. You are picking up a lot of glare and this will strain your eyes . Your shooting right into the sun. Never go hunting with a clean barrel the first two shots will go anywhere. I find with some guns it may take three shots before the barrel settles in.
