    Began a Tool and Die with Mold Making supplements apprenticeship on April 15, 1962, still there on Mondays and Thursdays. Moved to design department in '68 for injection molds drawn on linen, then to various engineering positions. Have 55 injection presses but the tool shop closed in 2012.
    It is good to see other's designs and work! Can't wait to see Part 2.

    Your puppy is HILARIOUS. Is she still pretty young? I'm here from Blondihacks, BTW. I've been using an edge finder for years with no clue what the pointy end was for! What kind of aluminum is used for making injection molds? Also RIP parallel.

    I am trying to figure out what type of machine I should buy, I want to start making polymer Glock lowers and I don’t mind having to put in more work to do this myself so I can pump them out every few minutes in my garage. I can buy the molds from China but what machine would you suggest for a hobby / small startup for doing this

    • @DragonflyEngineering
      @DragonflyEngineering  Před 3 lety +3

      probably a Boy machine like in the video, either new or ebay used. They take up less space and are not as loud,. You probably need a 60+ ton machine, ~$70K new, or ~$15K used ( with probably problems) You will need a 40-50 HP phase converter. I ran my 40 ton in my garage with a 30 HP rotary phase converter Phase converter needs to be 3X the motor rating due to inrush current at startup unless the machine has a stepper motor

    Different methods for different shops. Our tool holder sits vertically on the bench. Tools are clamped into the ER32 collets & tightened with a torque wrench. Then measured with a ht. gage. Close enough for most work but if we need more accurate depth we touch off on the machine.

    For a small relatively easy mold job (2k$-7k$) how much would be the price of the raw material vs your time/expertise?
    Great tips and great machine!

    • @chrisyboy666
      @chrisyboy666 Před 3 lety

      There is no injection mould tool in the world that costs between 2,,,,7k you would struggle to even get the cad drawings for that....cheapest mould we ever made was £28K.....there were sliding side cores in that mould as well and it was water cooled but we lost money on that as it was for a good customer and it was more of a favour then a job for profit...

    I have a big problem with sound quality. It can be really hard to make out what you're saying. During the sea kayaking - no worries - perfect. But in the workshop, with machines running? Not. Thought it was my laptop/soundbar but no, it's not, after listening to other posts. ...... FYI.....
