    One of the first prominent European jazz musicians, Reinhardt remains one of the most renowned jazz guitarists.
    Apparently this version is based on the original song by Fats Waller.
    Song mentioned in the following links:
    www.myxer.com/ringtone/id/2530... (here you can hear a different sample, but very similar, while attribution is made to both Fats Waller and Django Reinhardt)
    bioshock.wikia.com/wiki/BioSho... (attributed only to Django)
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioShock...) (attributed only to Fats Waller)

    I really like this recording no matter who it is. The beat is steady and swinging. Far too many interpretations are all over the map with the beat and play havoc with the note signatures. Pyeng Threadgill does a very sweet version of this song.She keeps it simple but still stretches is artfully. As far as musicdoq's comment that the strumming is barely adequate., well I don't think that is fair or accurate. He 's is accompanying and doing it very musically,not showing off!!!

  • @MrPETUGUE
    @MrPETUGUE Před 6 lety +1

    Une chose est certaine et ce n'est un secret pour personne, ce n'est pas Django Reinhardt, ni Stéphane Grappelli d'ailleurs ! Ce n'est pas Eddie Lang et Joe Venuti non plus. Les seuls enregistrements originaux enregistrés par Django Reinhardt présents dans Bioshock sont "La Mer (Beyond the Sea)" et "Chasing Shadows".
    Le style musical général et le rythme joués pour cet enregistrement sont bien trop "modernes", en tout cas selon moi. J'ai la malheureuse impression qu'on ne saura véritablement jamais qui a enregistré ces titres additionnels attribués à Django Reinhardt ("It Had to Be You", "Jitterbug Waltz", "Liza" et "Please Be Kind"). La théorie la plus vraisemblable semble être la participation, de près ou de loin, volontaire ou non, du groupe américain "The Faux Frenchmen", connu pour leur formation musicale rendant hommage à Django Reinhardt et au quintette du Hot Club de France. Pourquoi l'équipe de développement de la série de jeu vidéo Bioshock ont décidé de mettre ces enregistrements plutôt que les enregistrements originaux de Django Reinhardt ? Pourquoi (s'il s'agit réellement des "The Faux Frenchmen") ne sont-ils pas crédités sur les génériques ou les listes officielles des bandes son originales ?
    En tout cas, je trouve que ces titres sont très réussis et le guitariste soliste comme le violoniste rendent un très bel hommage à Django Reinhardt et Stéphane Grappelli. L'essentiel est là d'après moi, ce sont de très jolies musiques avec un excellent jeu vidéo.

    There are some comments about the authenticity of this recording,like if it's not Django it's nothing. Well I have news for you doubters, who the hell cares?? It's very nicely done , very listenable, musically elegant and I don't a damn who played it because it swings; Quick trying to define things from a very limited viewpoint. There were lots of great guitar players, not just Django.

    @guitarman63mm Před 11 lety

    Grappelli did a version with Toots Thielemans, a renowned harmonica player, in a similar rhythm, for what it's worth, but now I'm 100% positive this isn't Django. His son, Babik, has a few live recordings floating around too, but I don't think this is one of them either, given the stale violin playing.

  • @ChavezRey

    Big Django fan, and I had at first the same doubts that this was him, but I've decided that it ABSOLUTELY IS Django and Grappelli.
    Fats Waller tune, they did many of his (honeysuckle rose, sheik of araby) No surprise to hear them doing Jitterbug.
    Give Django a little more credit-the style you're hearing was in full swing, and of course he could play it, he just didn't on his official recordings. this is a jam.
    Listen to the intro. That's django.

    hmm. I feel like this sounds too 'straight-ahead' to be Django and Steph. Where are the chromatics and embellishments? And Django NOT playing a little more than just chords? And square on the beat? Doesn't seem like him at all.
    Django and Stephane split up during WWII and Stephane was known for recording some very light, tea time-ey jazz stuff, in Django's absence. this may be from that archive. That archive, in my opinion, not quite like DJ & Steph together but still great.
