Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on CZcams, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on CZcams. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on CZcams, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.

My children, grandchildren and now my great grandchildren listen to this album with me. This album was a huge part of my teenage years and still today!! Young people are shocked when they come to my house with one of my grandchildren and realize I'm jamming out to Pink Floyd!! This is the greatest album ever made and still today it doesn't disappoint!!

During the 1994 Pulse concert Pink Floyd plays Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety in order!!
I do remember during this concert tour everybody saying how great the U2 concert was Michael Jackson and on and on and all these other concerts. I would always laugh to myself and know that sooner or later this 94 Pulse concert tour would be vindicated and I think it's starting to live up to being the greatest concert from beginning to end that's ever been put on! I say that because I've seen Michael Jackson, Metallica, Genesis, Yes, Paul McCartney, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen and just about every major group you can think of and in seeing about 100 concerts in my lifetime I've never seen a better concert than Pink Floyd puts on!!!!! And I've seen Pink Floyd four times in three different decades, twice in the 70s once in 87 and this 94 Pulse concert!

Hey man. Love that you're doing the albums in chunks the way they should be done. Just something you said about Syd being represented by the prism. The line in Shine On that you're thinking of, it was "come on, you prisoner", not prism. It was a reference to Syd being a prisoner in his own mind. It's a concept that would later resurface in the narrative of The Wall. The prism idea was because the band wanted a cover for Dark Side that was "clean, simple, and bold" and this was one of 5 options presented to the band. It's also fitting as the album deconstructs a life cycle into its component parts, reflected in the beam of light being deconstructed into its component parts.

Actually the lyrics you were referring to in Shine on You Crazy Diamond are "come on you painter, you Piper, you prisoner..." not prism. But yes they are referring to Syd in that lyric. He loved to paint. I read that his artwork was pretty out there. He did one painting that was just all black with a little red box in the corner. Piper may refer to the one album he did with the band Piper at the Gates of Dawn or maybe as in the pied piper because he had quite the fan following. And I take the prisoner lyric to be that he was a prisoner of his mental illness.

I’m just going to copy my message here, from the one I put on your video of Parts 1 to 5. In case you missed it.
I bought my Vinyl Album the day it was released, in 1973, aged 17.
I still have it, of course. A All Time Classic. Ideally, it’s best listened to, from beginning to end, all 42 minutes. Just as it was intended. I’m sure you’ll understand what it’s about after reading up on it and a few full listens, straight through.
And seeing everyone els’s great descriptions on here. I’ve never stopped listening to it, during those 50 years and I’ve a feeling you’ll be listening to it too, for a long time to come. We saw saw the whole Album performed live just last week, by the incredible, ‘The Australian Pink Floyd Show’. Highly endorsed by David Gilmour himself and the closest thing we still have, to seeing Pink Floyd Music performed Live.
Like many others have told you about their children and even grandchildren, my Son loves this Album too. This wonderful Album, lives on. Just my own feelings.
Happy Golden Anniversary, ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’.
    Absolute ‘Masterpiece’. 🎶💛🎶

You're learning that time has no meaning when it comes to listening to Pink Floyd. The one constant you hear from people who react to their music is boy that went by fast. Yes, Dick Parry here is the same Dick Parry at the end of SOYCD… that's also him at the Pulse concert and tour. He's been called the unofficial fifth member of Pink Floyd.
Though "Brain Damaged" is inspired by Syd (this is the one song on the album Roger sings himself), its meaning has universal applications for all of us. This is the beauty and genius of how Roger writes. He uses the personal to make sweeping life observations that we all can relate to. Don't try to bring everything specifically back to Syd. There is political commentary in the song as well that you will pick up on. And Eclipse is about us all!!
The music and lyrics of this album will stick with you and evolve over years and decades to come. It is why it has remained so much in the psyche of music lovers for generations.
"And if the dam breaks open many years too soon. And if there is no room upon the hill,
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon"

The Prism. The band asked hypnosis to do some bold simple and eye catching artwork.
They presented several options (quite alot of work put into some of the other options) but all the band members straight away said "I want that one".
BTW early Floyd were quite happy to hide in the shadows and behind a light show on stage. Arguing the music should take centre focus with a light show as the audience might want something to look at.
The DSOTM album cover, like several other Pink Floyd album covers, doesn't have band members pictures or even the name of the band on the front!

It's a Bible for modern life.
Money - points out the absurdity of extreme wealth while others suffer extreme poverty.
Us & Them - is the most chill anti war song.
Any Colour You Like - the title refers to "false choices" any colour when in reality everything is blue.
Brain Damage - the darkness that took Syd and can take anyone. Loonies and Lunatic from Lunar meaning "of the Moon"
Eclipse again everything you have can be taken eventually.
    The perfect ending.
The final recorded voice "There is no Dark Side of the Moon really matter of fact its all dark" actually went on to say ".... the only thing that makes it light is the sun" but this was chopped off as is was deemed "too upbeat".
An absolute masterpiece, charted for over 17 YEARS and is probably the most discussed and analysed album ever recorded!

Unlike the rest of the album there is no connection between "The Great Gig in the Sky" and "Money". The reason for that is that TGGITS ended side one of the vinyl and Money started side two.

That was the best part of the ritual when listening to DSOTM on vinyl .
One got to 'soak in' the GGITS while getting up, walking (somewhat) to the turn-table and flipping it over to start side 2.

Live at the 1994 Pulse Concert is the BEST live performance of the ENTIRE DSOTM album Pink Floyd has ever done imo! Not the Wembley version.
No, the prism does not represent Syd Barrett, the Prism design was designed for The Dark Side Of The Moon album cover in 1973. Syd Barrett had nothing to do with the design.
The artwork was a design made for the band by Storm Thorgerson's legendary design agency, Hipgnosis. Thorgerson was also a friend of the band.
Here is a quote about the design,...
"The image of the enigmatic prism reflecting beams of light into deep space, parallels the bands complex sound world and their lyrical interplay between science and mysticism".
The live version of "Money" at the Pulse Concert is off the charts!
Yes, "Brain Damage" is about Syd. In fact in one lyric in the song is a direct reference to Syd Barrett. the lyric is, ....
"And If The Band You're IN Starts Playing Different Tunes, I'll See You On The Dark Side Of The Moon".
When Sid was having serious issues performing live, and David Gilmour was onstage playing with him, Syd would sometimes just start going off out of tune and start playing a different song than the song the band was playing. Exactly what that lyric is referencing.
It's a good thing Gilmour was there.
DSOTM is known as the greatest Rock album of all time, by many Rock critics, and a massive fan base.

I think the prism is a coincidence. Don't know for sure but never heard that suggested. I've listened to this in my teen years in my basement, headphones on, fully absorbed. I think Money is a one-off song, breaking the album in two. I've read enough Floyd bios but can't remember. The "concept" here is loosely defined and I've never considered it to be a direct narrative or story. It's more just a vibe. Life and death. A meditation on the passage of time, not a story.

What you thought was reverb, might have been, in fact reverb. i think it might have been an EchoPlex tape recorder effect. The echoes and reverb were possible with the EP. I had a Roland RE-501 which was great, but the EP could let you loop in long segements

The prism originally meant nothing..... it was simply one of the many designs offered for the record cover........BUT, the whole band immediately chose it without any real regard for the other designs.
Now we all give it our own meaning.
I see it as representing life......
Life giving light ( warmth and energy ) goes in, and emerges as the rainbow of diversity.

    • @ShawnSalvadori
      @ShawnSalvadori  Před rokem

They probably went with the best option. I think it's an awesome album cover that can be interpreted to have many different meanings

  • @Rassskle
    @Rassskle Před rokem

Side 1 ........ life from an almost ethereal view, from the viewpoint of self...... wonder in the womb , pain of reality and work (?) and then NOTHING ( death ).
Side 2......... life as it is in a corrupted world.......greed, power, discrimination and conformity.
    Money is clearly greed.
Us and Them about our personal self and distrust of others.
It is ME, the perfect or you, the inferior.
War is not the theme, merely an example of the human condition fuelled by self importance and greed.
The rest appears to meld towards the truth and uses sarcasm to highlight a better truth or ideal.
To me it sarcastically highlights the truth of how the gangsters and criminals of government use society and religion to keep us in control like good mindless socialist vegetables.
Drugs sent Syd over to the mental dark side, but back then if a normal peasant or unwanted wife refused to conform...... they could be institutionalised and fed shock treatment UNTIL they were really nuts.
I love the sarcasm in Rogers lyrics and the often misinterpreted meanings.
    From Wish You Where Here.......
    “ Did YOU exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage “
Many people were angered by these words...... not what we expect from Roger and PF.
But really, do you want to conform to the dictates of gangster governments and church...... or fight the war for freedom and honesty ?
