    The western Kami Band are great musicians but have zero onstage chemistry with the girls, that's my biggest issue with them. They look exactly what they are, faceless hired player's.The eastern Kamis on the other hand had personality and it was fun watching them interacting with the girls and they really seemed to be a part of BABYMETAL.

    • @bebimetaru
      @bebimetaru  Před 5 měsíci +10

      That's not entirely true, they're simply too far away from the girls 🥲 I've seen them in some live shows and they interact with the girls when they past each other or when they drink between songs. Rarely this is possible on a big stage in Japan.
      Even eastern kamis seem to have less personality since they've been wearing masks. I think the masks have always "blocked" western kamis real heart, because with those it's almost impossibile to interact even with the audience 😭

      Kinda funny how the masks can’t even hide the fact some of them are westerners. I seen that arm and I said “now that’s a corn fed American!”

    100% agree. Recently, I revisited the three Blu-rays back to back (Returns, Begins Black and Clear Night) and I noticed this. I even commented it a few times.
    I hope Koba rethinks the treatment they are giving the Kami Band in terms of screen time.

    Back in the good ole days that you mentioned, the band was a huge part of the show, and each member had their own personality.. thats the Babymetal i fell in love with.. when i first saw the band having to wear mask, i honestly had trouble believing it.. it's humiliating for the members, it takes individuality completely out.. i hope they had to triple their pay to make them look that ridiculous..

      Chris formed a new band called HillHaven and he's the lead vocals
      Anthony is now part of All That Remains
      we can probably guess that West Kami will rest for a little while, and hoping to see Eastern Kami's back in action on the next festival shows.
      but of course they're all hired session musicians so Koba can probably hire another musician to fill in the missing void.

    I’m hopeful that Kami West will see a bit more screen time going forward, and maybe even the return of solos (more regularly).
    Pretty sure Kami East played st BM Returns, so maybe they were purposely cut to preserve consistency, as Koba knew Kami West will be doing rest of the shows?
    Doesn’t appear Kami East will return for the foreseeable future. Members with various projects already. Still miss them though.
    Also, now that Babymetal is “whole” again, Kami West became tighter as a band this year, and may be in the back end, demonstrated their dedication, Koba can get them more screen time. I believe the band focus was diminished post-Yui due to increased uncertainties, and perhaps it will return closer to the “original norm”. My guess is the masks will stay though. Regardless, I’m here for it! Lol.

      If I am not mistaken, I think three of the members of the Kami band that tours with Babymetal in the U.S. are from the band The Galactic Empire and the drummer is from Shadow of Intent; they aren't Japanese. Which is part of the reason they have them wear masks, not that their nationality should make a difference, but it is just what I have read. Please correct me if I am wrong. 😁

    • @Ganimal83
      @Ganimal83 Před 6 měsíci

      @@richletram539 Yup, you’re correct, Chris Kelly, CJ Masciantonio, and Clint Tustin are all guitarists from Galactic Empire. Clint switched to Bass for Babymetal. Ryan Neff, filled in on tour for Clint a number of times. Anthony is the beast on drums.
      I think the masks were Koba’s way to keep emphasis in the girls, and distance the band slightly. Even Kami East started to wear them as well in 2019. It makes sense due to all the uncertainties back then, but I still prefer no mask.

    Ok, I’m about to drop some theories in here, straight from my heart. Here’s my take on it: Babymetal has changed a lot since the hiatus, they now are a metal band more of their own, rather than three cute kawaii girls dancing in contrast with a powerful grownup musicians playing metal (the Kami band). This seems intentional. This wasn’t designed by them, they were a subunit club, we all know that, they had no say in anything, we don’t even know if they liked it at the time. Well, now they do have a voice, Su and Moa now seem to like way more what they’re doing and playing since their return, and it’s clear to me that they fought for this. (Might I add, Yui’s departure for me had a lot to do with this lack of control, they mostly did what they were told and that was it). The whole group performance now seems less scripted, the girls seem to have more control on what they’re doing. This is may be my western look at it, but in other words, this new Babymetal seems way less idol and way more like an actual band than before. I do love that old babymetal, but that concept is gone. There are changes in lots of aspects that points to that direction, and the kami band being just the band is one of them, in my opinion. They’re the band, but they’re not a thing. The girls are the whole thing. It’s all on the girls now and I love that. I love the Babymetal we had before, but I must say this new one is the Babymetal that I always wanted: Su, Moa and now Momo more in control and enjoying themselves like we have never seen before. The difference between their authenticity on the stage now and then is immense. So, bottom line is, the kami band no longer being a thing is a consequence of Babymetal changing as a whole. For me, for the better. After all, the seasons change.

      I love "The girls are the whole thing"! This has always been Babymetal mantra and now more then ever. I obviously didn't want to diminish the girls, just mention that the kamis have always been there to support them. Thank you for your thoughtful comment 💖

      Interesting take and it’s true that it’s good there has been an evolution in style and presentation. This keeps the project going and continually engaging. Not withstanding, how are they a “metal band “ without the musicians? I feel they are a pop group backed by a metal band. Still two separate entities.
      I get what you are saying. . . But I’m willing to bet that money is the main driver behind the downplay in prominence of the Kami’s. . . However, this also just a theory. OTFGK 🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

      The girls busted their asses off for 3 or 4 or so years building up a fan base in Japan culminating in the crowds we got in both Legend 1999 and 1997 shows before the Kami band was even a thing. I think that fact alone speaks for itself.

    Is three who noticed that there is different guitar tone between east kami and west kami? After listening all dvd that consist east and west kami's band i can say east kami guitar tone is more "heavy" in distortion and west kami is more "clean" sounding guitar. Dont get me wrong they all have a great sound. For example during megitsune breakdown. In 2023 bluray the other one black night (west kami) is more light guitar tone, there is no palm muted guitar and in 2020 japan extra show (east kami) there is palm muted guitar riff and noticeably more heavy guitar tone. And give me chocolate guitar solo so far is better played by the east kami than the west kami imho.

    Hola querido amigo me gusto mucho tu video, una bonita edición y muy interesante, sin embargo, me quedo una duda que no puedo resolver y era porque la kami band integrada por japoneses dejo de tocar con babymetal? supe que el guitarrista principal había fallecido y que resulto un duro golpe a la banda, así dejando de tocar con ellas, aunque no estoy seguro si esta información es correcta o si hubo algún otro factor que tuvo que ver.
    Como fanático honestamente me gustaba más la kami band integrada por los japoneses antes, no solo por su gran papel que tenían en el escenario, sino también por la gran diferencia de habilidad que estas tenían en sus instrumentos que a diferencia de esta nueva kami band.

    It's not just their presence, it's also noticable in the music. I feel like the instrumental music is kinda getting pushed more and more into the background and has been simplified significantly. On their first 2 albums if you removed the girls from the band the music itself could still be strong enough to hold its own. Nowadays it's mostly just accompanying and under the radar. To me Babymetal peaked with Resistance and kinda fell off the cliff after it. Sure they still bring out some bangers here and there but it feels like they're losing their uniqueness and trying too hard to reach bigger audiences (a tale as old as time).

    The current band is exactly what management wants them to be. Faceless musicians. This way the focus is more on other aspects of the Production. I think as much as we liked the original Kami band they were distracting from the show. When the one guitarist died it put negative attention on the production. I think that was the final straw. Amuse knows exactly what they're doing.

    Perhaps $$$ the almighty yen/ dollar Is the reason for just about everything. I don’t wish to criticize this project that has brought so much joy to so many. My guess is If you reduce the importance of the musicians, and cover them, and reduce their screen time to near 0. . . You can swap them out more easily and yes, pay them less. . . Personally I find it disrespectful to the musicians, who are still all top notch, but it certainly doesn’t bother me enough to reduce my enjoyment of their playing or the project as a whole. I hope they don’t downplay it any further, because without the Kamis playing that heavy heavy music, the girls would be a pop group lost in the noise of all the others . The METAL aspect is the main thing that lets them stand out.

      Masks cannot disguise any swapping out of members. Fans know almost instantly who is who even with the masks. The Kami band members are talented musicians who can find work in any other band they want. Nothing is keeping them there against their will. I don't like the masks either and wish the Kami band would be more prominent but there is nothing disrespectful to the band going on. If they don't like the conditions or pay they will all move on. Agreed. It bothers me that the musicians wear masks, almost dehumanizing them. It bothers me that they stay in the background, having next to no interaction with the girls or the audience.
    For me, it came to a head during the perfomance of Akatzuki at the Budokan in 2021. The guitarists nail that double guitar solo perfectly. They should be in the spotlight, right beside Su. Instead, they are kept in the shadows like wild animals, while some dancers do a mok fight that doesn't even make sense for this song. And we are talking about the musicians that were literally instrumental in providing some continuity during the difficult years, thus helping to keep the act together when everything might just have fallen apart. A great injustice is done to them.
    The Fox God taught us to let our voices ring and to never cease to demand justice, did he not?

    They wear masks because they're white within a Japanese brand. Does anybody know what actually went down with the Japanese musicians? I imagine at some point they may have asked for writing credits and and royalties for the songs they worked on? To what extent is this band actually part of the writing process? Even Momo can´t fill the gap properly. But it is still more pleasant than various girls on a rotation, of course. With the original Kamis, BM appeared as a real metal band. It´s my opinion. You can have yours. I don't care if someone agrees with me.
      You are speculating about the Kamis. Don´t expect everyone to see it the way you do. ;-) I know, Babymetal fans are pretty harsh when it comes to the point that someone dares to criticize the project. I´m a fan, too. But I´m, different. I criticize most, what I like most. I favor the original Kamis. I hate the masks and the anonymity, that comes with it. There was a special chemistry between the girl and the eastern Kami Band. I don´t see that at all today. When Yui left, they had to find out how to go on with Babymetal. Moa and Su alone, it was clear from the beginning, that wouldn´t work. Then they started the Avengers era and this (again, it´s my opinion) was the worst thing they could come up with. They decided to go on with BM, so it´s good they have an official third member again. You might start a poll. Momo or Yui? What do you think, which of the both girls would be the fan favorite? Things have changed, not always for the better.
