Lyrics:
Cruising down the Ave with my homeboy Boove
Laying back like jack, mellowing to the groove
The "Greatest Man Alive" was cold rocking my world
Then I rocked a little harder when I saw this fresh, fly girl
A hold up. I can't go out like a nut
I had to conjure out a cool way to strut
They call me E.S., the overlord of fresh
I saw you in the dress, and I just had to impress
My compliment, came through in a clutch
She started to blush. Then I knew what was up
Called her next morning. Said, "What'll it be?
Dinner and a movie or just chillin' with me?"
She said, "Me." So I went and got the slimy
But as soon as I opened the door she said, "Gimme!"
It was like I was a bone, and she was fetching
She gobbled, cold swallowed my one's like Greedy Gretchin
Then after a couple of weeks of good loving my friends
She did the dummy move, and started asking for my dividends

Tough to say fast.gotta have fresh breath.
This the line right here👌🏾
Fire🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
That's the line I quoted here in my way too long review as well. Yes the content of his words is great, but boy, I'll be if it is not more quotable and does not stick in our minds because of how fuckin great he delivers those lines. It's as if he punches, tucks, pops and rolls those syllables across the beat, but it's so blended in the mix perfectly, it just skiffs atop as it soaks in. Aurally, it's almost like percussion in itself, but then it's also quite its own thing. A lot of the brilliance in this song has to be also how they recorded records back then, the tones are so warm and there's so much color to the sounds. Just...yeah, dope.
"Like a Super Bowl sack, she's tacklin' your pockets." Always loved that line.

It’s no way they could make this kinda hip hop in 2023 . Different vibe to life now
The world is very different now...
I was around back then and young people have even more to talk about now. But most can’t rap like they used to,
The smooth, laid-back flow is harder to pull off in the time where everything needs to be a club or Caprice banger.

As a New Yorker (Brooklynite) back then, we were very territorial when it came to Hip-Hop. We were always hesitant about rappers from outside the city but EST couldn't be denied! I remember my crew grudgingly saying "yo...this dude is a monster!" 33 years later, this remains true. EST is the first great lyricist from Philly (from our perspective). #RespectTheLegends
