- 6 Day Firearm Buck Tag filled with this 8 yard slug shot to the heart, killed instantly. The first shot grazed his upper inside front left leg, the second shot was lights out. This deer was harvested in North New Jersey in the fog.

Nice video, but two suggestions. Move your corn pile where you have a shot no matter where the deer is standing. Second, get you some cover around that stand. Maybe wrap it in camo cloth. I am surprised you didn't get busted.
What gun and length barrel did you use? Just curious because im thinking of hunting with my 18.5” barrel shotgun
The longer the better really you can hunt with it but you just can’t shoot as far as you could with a 28” barrel
I have the identical gun. It's a Remington SPS 12ga semi automatic. Comes that way with the slug barrel on it. SPS means special purpose shotgun. The gun is a beautiful looking weapon. High gloss maple wood with a high gloss blue job. Walt from Kokomo, Indiana. He is a great shot.

For what it's worth, everything I've read basically says barrel length doesn't matter after the first 16", so standard barrel length being longer than that makes it pointless.
We're talking maybe 50fps difference between a 20 and 30" barrel. Your ammo choice has a much bigger effect than that.
I’d get something that takes chokes so you can test slugs to different chokes and get the best accuracy.
with slugs, you don’t get much benefit once you go past a 24” barrel. Some of the purpose built guns might have longer barrels. I know Thompson Center made 28” barrels for the Encore that were rifled for sabot slugs. If you look at the barrel lengths on factory configured slug guns and the nicer purpose build guns, they are the length they are for a reason.

I have hunted for 60 years, harvesting antelope, deer, elk and moose, all fair chase. Kindly explain to me what is sporting about harvesting an animal that has been lured to within shotgun range by a pile of corn. Nothing wrong with using a shotgun, no animal argues with a well placed slug, but luring an animal into range with food is anything but sporting.

Depends I guess on how serious you take the sport and how much time you have to hunt and your resources. As a beginner hunter I’d say this is probably exhilarating. As you gain more experience and care for the sport so does your approach on getting more honorable kills without feed, with a bow etc

I understand your concern. Baiting is completely legal in the state of NJ and is legal in many states across the country utilizing food plots to lure deer in range. Additionally, NJ is the most densely populated state by people in the country and with an estimated deer population of 250k+ every deer killed is another car accident possibly fatal saved. Harvesting deer in trimming the herd is all part of the conservation and preservation of both sport and meat.
