Really interesting to hear your thoughts on this! I think I saw Eve as quite intelligent - she could distinguish the Hollys and had a strong mind when it came to choosing a match but then Bram turned up and she became a bit... meh. Being a badass in my mind can be mentally and Eve for me just flopped at that point. Although, it's good to hear a differing perspective to my own so I like watching videos like these! x

I'm hoping her character gets better as the series develops. I'm assuming they wanted to the whole "she starts as a dependent woman on Bram and ends as a strong female" - which isn't a trope I particularly like to be honest, but a popular one in YA!

I thought it was very Rapunzel-esque as well haha! Fantastic review. I loved that you discussed gender steryotypes.. I hope you don't mind if I share your video's link in the description of mine!

I'm listening to the audio for this at the moment and it is... not great. You really get the type Giovanna writing style in Eve but Bram feels almost underdeveloped? It just feels like most of the book is being told things rather than shown them. Though the "unconventional love story" pitch made me nervous but I like the way their characters are involved with each other.

I also felt this with Bram unti about half way through the book where he seemed to develop more of a character. It's definitely a very "black and white" book, but I enjoy that.

I adore Tom and Gi and EoM was my most anticipated book of this year. However i'm sadly one of the 1.5/2 star ratings. Individually i think they write great books. However i feel as though Gi's side on the 'stereotypical' male/female roles, and Tom's are slightly more diverse. I'd hoped Tom's writing style would come through a little more in the book an influence those decisions to make it particularly male and female based. I do disagree with the comment that it was necessary, i can think of so many ways that an author would not have to put those tropes in in order to make a little more forward. It seemed very privileged to me, and it made me quite uncomfortable to read. Not necessarily the bigger story, some male/female stereotypes agreed would make more sense. But Eve swooning over Bram helping her? Nope. I also found the representation of males as a whole awful. They're seen as animals, not as humans, and given the time scale of the world (i'm not 100% on this, it's not clear from the book) the human race would not deteriorate in personality that quickly. It seems odd to me that Bram is the only man in the world that has no strong sexual attraction to Eve and once he's near her isn't a danger. I'll continue with the series, but sadly only because i like Tom and Gi as people, otherwise i probably would have DNF'd this half way through.

Firstly, so sorry it's taken so long to reply to this comment! I've seen so many mixed reviews on this book - and I must admit, I think I'm slightly blinded and think I'm biased towards the book, because I adore them both so much. It's a great point about Bram not having a strong sexual attraction to her, but I always assumed that was because he spent s much time with her, compared to the rest of the population? It definitely had a few plot holes, and made some questionable choices - but as a whole, I did enjoy it.
