Thanks a lot! For me this - along with pt. 1 - has been a very instructive and considerate introduction to this topic which finally makes me want to actually use the features ACF and its - sort of - companion plugins offer. I really like the way you explain the various aspects and address possible issues in a well structured way so almost any WP user will be able to understand - even if all used plugins taken together make it quite a bit to take in as a whole.

Would you recommend different custom post types for content in a different medium... say, an article linked out vs media embedded? I'm building a copywriting portfolio and wondered if these distinguishing layouts could be achieved within the same "custom post type" - current as 'Copy' post group in my dashboard menu - if I then assigned one taxonomy to one custom post type, then another to another (dedicated CPTs each for article, social post, video, etc... - but only differentiated at the taxonomy level). Note that I am also using taxonomies to differentiate vertical / subject (ie: wellness, blog, entertainment, mindset). The taxonomies sound like a great use for this "genre" differentiating, but I'm wondering if the taxonomies are the wrong way to go about differentiating visual presentation. Like, if you wanted the Audi posts to visually look different than the Ford posts... btw thanks, you are my internet hero right now for all these tuts!

Question: I don't understand why Custom Fields and Custom Types are not recognized by PODS unless PODS originally created it , and CPT UI doesn't see custom fields or types created by PODS. And none of them recognize CPTs or ACFs created by WooCommerce. They're all using Wordpress base tables, aren't they?

    • @WPTuts
      @WPTuts  Před 4 lety

Categories are great but can get very disorganised quickly if you have more complex requirements. ACF and CPT offer you easy flexibility of grouping, expanding and structuring your website requirements.
There are many cases where using a tool like ACF and CPT UI are overkill. As you get more accustomed to working with these tools, you'll get to grips with when to use them and when to simply stick with the default WordPress tools. :)

I can't say I have a favorite. I tend to go between ACF and JetEngine depending on the project requirements. Both have a lot in common but have some smaller features that can be useful depending on the project requirements.
I'd suggest getting familiar with ACF and PODS as they are both free and see how you get on with them and this will give you a great understanding of which would be right for different projects. :0)

@@WPTuts Is price the main consideration here or the flexibility / features each provides? I'm considering Toolset, but with your videos, most use cases can be achieved with JetEngine/ACF. Is there something you think they do better than Toolset?

That looks good. But how can I loop the categories/taxonomies in a page and when a user clicks on the taxonomy, the user is redirected to the particular category's listing page.

I followed this step by step all the way but once I got to 30:29. Trying to use the dynamic data for the Loop. I got nothing showing up once I pressed "Apply & Preview". I don't know what I did wrong :(

How do we display ACF field in the archive page itself? For ex: an external link.

Do you know how to create an archive inside an archive too? for example, I have a vehicles archive then in one of those posts is honda then when I click honda there will be another archive of different types of honda cars.

Hi, great video. One question: would you prefer jet engine or cpt ui for make a website with custom post types, archive listings etc?

I'd probably opt for CPT UI and ACF as it doesn't rely on Elementor so it is more future proof than JetEngine. :)

I am up to 30:05, when I select 'Elementor Canvas', my preview still has the header and footer.
And then at 30:32, I set the Dynamic Content as 'Vehicle' but my feature image doesn't load like yours. If anything, it looks like you have edited between those steps.
Edit 1: None of the data is pulling through.
Edit 2: Okay, when I applied the Loop to the Archive, it seemed to work now. Weird how none of that was working in the template.

thank you for excellent video. I've done exactly what is shown in the video. I got success too. My another query is how can I have single archive page template designed through elementor (i have elementor pro) which can be used to show different categories when clicked. Say If I click on ford, archive page shows up all posts under Ford category and same for benz, mercedes.. etc.

Did you try to use the Elementor portfolio widget for that?

Hi, How would you go about designing a user frontend profile page that will be visible to public eye, using only Elementor, ACF and CPT UI if that is possible would you kindly make a Tutorial how to please. I was thinking to display small details like Name, user Avatar, header Banner and post type created by the current user..

Hey Paul, I do have a question. I want to build an All In One Delivery Service website, but I need to create an Admin panel that monitors all activities from the Merchant to the Drivers. Can CPT & ACF accomplish this ?
