- Guys we picked up a 1987 HONDA TRX250R - and our plan is a full moto style build… stay tuned as we go thru this QUAD from top to bottom.. and show you guys all of the steps on making it “ mint “ again .
This is "part 3” tear down - follow along as we take you step by step to get this quad torn down to the frame.

This is so perfect that you are doing this series. I own a 1986 TRX250R and I am starting a restomod on it soon! I want to make it into the Quad I could not afford when I was younger, I am 43 now and I have owned the bike since 2003! I can't wait to see the finished product and take lots of notes along the way! You are correct the Honda TRX250R was the best quad ever made!

I built a 1986 trx 250r with a esr 310 4 years ago and my oldest son fell in love with it. So I grabbed him a frame he just started sandblasting it putting a gusset kit after so this series is going to be clutch for him. Thanks

I’d weld it back up right and clean the weld off with a flap wheel so it wouldn’t look repaired and then brace the bottom of it where it wouldn’t be as noticeable and powder coat it back chrome and use it just when they have the local hill climb contest every year and I’ve got to have one of those Snap On impacts with the rocker.

Rear brake rezi cup. Brake pedals, shifter, stem clamp, water pump cover, QC clutch cover, front and rear hubs, handle bar clamps to name a few custom parts
The cooler rack brings back memories. Had the same one on a ATC 350x the good days
you should do the back brake reservoir and put a honda oem site glass on the side.

Quads in AZ shouldn't rust out. The Southwest is actually pretty good to quads, but the rear rims, axle, and lower frame gets blasted with little rocks. I run clear vinyl on the axle and lower parts of the frame to protect them. There is not much you can do for the rims, just avoid hard rock strikes.

I also know they’re ugly but you would be amazed the performance you would get out of them compared to normal shocks. I personally would love to see someone use them on a 250r and make the ultimate handling quad
