Baton Rouge is the capital of Louisiana and the parish seat of East Baton Rouge Parish. It is the second-largest city in Louisiana, with a population of 222,185 in 2021. Baton Rouge is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River, about 80 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico. Baton Rouge was founded by French explorers in 1699 and was named after a red cypress post that marked the boundary between two Native American tribes. The city became the capital of Louisiana in 1849 and played an important role in the Civil War. Today, Baton Rouge is a major industrial, petrochemical, medical, research, motion picture, and growing technology center. It is also home to Louisiana State University, the state's largest institution of higher education.
Crime in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is a complex issue with a variety of contributing factors. According to the FBI's 2021 Uniform Crime Report, the violent crime rate in Baton Rouge was 1,110.7 per 100,000 people, which is higher than the national average of 691.7 per 100,000 people. The property crime rate in Baton Rouge was 5,195.3 per 100,000 people, which is also higher than the national average of 3,553.4 per 100,000 people.
There are a number of factors that contribute to the high crime rates in Baton Rouge. One factor is the city's poverty rate. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the poverty rate in Baton Rouge was 24.7% in 2020, which is higher than the national average of 12.8%. Poverty is often associated with crime, as people living in poverty may be more likely to commit crimes to make ends meet.
Another factor that contributes to the high crime rates in Baton Rouge is the city's gun violence problem. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there were 174 gun homicides in Baton Rouge in 2021. This is a significant increase from the 141 gun homicides that occurred in the city in 2020.
The Baton Rouge Police Department is working to address the city's crime problems. The department has implemented a number of initiatives, including a community policing program and a gun violence reduction program. However, more needs to be done to address the root causes of crime in Baton Rouge, such as poverty and inequality.

I am from here so I say yes. I left for 15 years for my career but eventually came back. There are a lot of cool towns and cities throughout Louisiana. Negatives for me is the weather his horrible and the auto insurance is very expensive.
