Since the early 1900s, Ford has maintained its status as an American car manufacturer for the people. And with that long reign as one of the top automotive manufacturers around, there have been ups and downs for the company. One of the turning points though for Ford was when they released the very first Ford Taurus SHO. Today Alex sits down to talk about the futuristic grocery-getter that saved Ford, the Ford Taurus SHO

I might just have to get some Things from here for my 2010 SHO
16 SHO here, just put ESR SR07s on it. Mine is FBO and makes just under 450whp, traded my 15 sti for it and I don't think I've ever owned a more fun car!
Thank y’all so much for using my picture as the thumbnail!
I was the proud owner of a 2013 SHO Performance Pack, tuned by Livernois. She unfortunately went to car heaven in an unfortunate accident. I loved her with all my heart. She was murdered out and the license plate was LORD VDR.
People in front of me used to slow down in the passing lane if they saw me, and I'm fairly certain I've flown under the radar a few times when speeding, been ignored by officers. I drive a '16 S6 now, and it's by all performance accounts a better car. But there will always be something about the presence that SHO had on the road. Big, burly, imposing. An absolute freight train of a long distance cruiser.
Y'all would be smart to consider a used one.
My 2016 SHO absolutely flies, but it’s got the quietest cockpit and smoothest ride of any sedan I’ve ever owned. Slept on too often!
How do I find one for a good price looking for the 2016 sho pacifically

1st and 2nd gen Taurus were very well built cars. You can find one that have made it to 300k and still start. Ford knoew they couldn’t cut corners on quality with these.
STOP saying good things about it so the prices don’t go up before I buy one!!!!!
Just FYI, the Ford Taurus PI (Police Interceptor) most likely has a naturally aspirated 3.7L V6, a few have the 3.5L EcoBoost. If you want the turbo, just make sure it does before you buy. If it has a flex fuel badge on the trunk, it's 3.7L.

You have dedication Chris, you can move on in life now
There’s this older fellow living across the street, has to be at least in his 60s. I see him outside working on and cleaning his 1st gen SHO 3x a week and it turns out it’s been in his family for the roughly 20 years! Really reliable car it seems
They are, the real issue is the cams. The cam gear comes apart, as it's a pressed on unit. The fix is either welding the cams or installing a pin. Once you do that, these things run forever. I currently have 250k miles on my 3rd gen. And 140k on the 2 gen I picked up recently
@@drsuffcatr8319 like you said, the 3rd Gen V8 has the cam issues. He said his neighbor has a 1st gen. No cam issues on the 1st and 2nd gen V6 cars.

Just picked up a 2014 S.H.O. with the performance pack last year with 69k miles for $16,500, perfect interior, a couple dings on the outside. While looking through the car after i bought it, found a tuner from Livernois motorsports, turns out my car has their stage two perfromance tune &upgrades, getting close to 450hp. Eats (V8) pony cars all day long from stoplight to stoplight. Best purchase ever.
I was wondering if these cars were tunable

The sho is a great car as long as it's treated well. Like any car I suppose
I've always changed the oil every 3k and trans fluid every 5k in my 2013 SHO and its never let me down all the way up to 200,000 miles, only thing that happened in those 200k miles majorly is the PTU gave out on me because it wasn't properly serviced fluid wise, which I have known about PTU failures so I wasn't really surprised, still drove home even when the PTU was in 2 pieces. I honestly beat the shit out of it and it doesn't seem to care, I live on a dirt road and some times drive it like a damn rally car and it still drives fine with plenty of power. Seriously underrated car imo.
I have a 2016 SHO, I added a Livewire TS+ with a custom tune from Gear head, and dam it's fun. I searched the car I wanted, it's black with the factory 20's looking great, Seems anywhere I go I have someone coming up to me complimenting the car on how nice it looks. As for a car for people in their 20's, hell I just turned 60, Dam I hate even the sound of that, lol. but my mindset is nowhere close to that. Time to have fun.
Day 13 of asking for "So you want a VW Passat W8".
Or the TDI
nope, I love my 89 SHO
and I'll never get anything else
I know a guy selling a clean w8 sedan with a manual for 9k, if I didn’t just buy a GTI......
No, just no. You might want to buy a W8, but you never should lmao. Rip to the 250k mi one i retired to the junkyard this summer
I thought W8s were cool until I gapped my best friends lightly modded one with my stock crown vic (I was on a light misfire too from bad plugs at the time lmao)
Theyre wayyyy too heavy to have fun with and theyre way overpriced but I will say nothing else sounds like em
You forgot to mention the PTU issues. I've got a 2014 SHO. I have had it for 4 years and it's the best car I've owned. Picked it us used, 2 years old, and 32,000 miles on it. Paid half of what the original owner paid. I absolutely love it. She's tuxedo black, de-badged, and I deleted all the chrome. Black carbon fiber wrapped the disgusting bronze colored dash trims. She is a menace to to be reckoned with. Great video.
Ptu issues only exist because people never changed the ptu lube. My 2011 hennessey SHO has factory ptu and zero problems at 191k. I believe that the performance pack cars had the drain plug in the ptu, mine does. And it is a pp car.
@@tonyblackburn5002 Its not just "not changing the fluid." There is a fundamental flaw in the design since the exhaust pipe is so close to the ptu, it cooks the fluid inside. Even though the fluid had the ability to go 30,000 to 50,000 KM...the extreme heat renders it unfit very quickly.
Add in Ford's "ITs A liFe TiMe FlUid" bullshit and you have PTU exploding all over the place.
2 years later do you still own it? How’s it running?
I still have mine. It has 123,000 miles and runs great. Oil changes and maintenance saves a lot of headaches.
Just got a 2017 SHO few days ago 🔥
You were a poet, didja know it?!

I have loved this car since they first opened the hood. Those intake runners were amazing.
Do I want a practical, powerful, safe, cool daily driver? ... fo SHO 😎
A lot of people don't know this, but the same engine (although not ecoboosted) was put in the 2010 - 2012 Ford Fusion Sport. Underrated car that nobody knows about.
the lincoln mkz got that same 3.5 v6 since 2007
Another awesome sleeper sedan. I like the early Fusion Sport like you said here. So cool.
I have a 2012 Fusion Sport and a 95 SHO, the Sport is quicker but the SHO is faster
Also in the mkz I love people’s reactions to my “grandma cat”
Recently bought a 2014 SHO with every package (even transmission cooling package) with 111k miles. Absolutely love it after a month of ownership.
Did some random maintenance on it, transmission fluid and PTU oil, it runs like a champ and had 0 issues, even with a tune and aftermarket intake, MAP sensor, and some various other upgrades. 100% recommend this car!
How’s the reliability?
Where and how do I buy the trans cooling package? The PTU on mine shat the bed at 80k and well, id like to upgrade that area to not have that happen again. I've tried looking online and all I ever get told is "crashed cop car" like dog i dont want used.
@@03tank57 the only issues I've had of over a year of ownership and now 138k miles is random sensors going out. After swapping them out it's right back on the road no trouble.
@@SammyNail put a ptu in from a performance pack SHO. It has a drain plug, and change that fluid every 20-30k and ur golden. Mine has 191k and runs perfectly.
I bought a 2015 SHO in Feb 2022 with 60K miles on it. Super fun to go get groceries in lol. That is the best example I've heard lol! I can fit a child seat in the back comfortably, the interior is sleak af, seat warmers/coolers plus massage, AND probably my favorite feature is you don't have to stop driving to link up a phone or input an address into navigation.
How is it doing one year later?
I’ve been wanting a SHO for years and just when I convince myself to starting looking at other cars for a project, I find this video
Awesome video! I learned about the sho after losing to one 15 years ago in my **** bucket. I've never laughed, smiled, and cried so hard in my life. I've owned my 3rd gen for a little over 5 years now. It's an absolute pain but that 3.4 v8 has such an unique tone. I couldn't help it. Lol. Thanks for the video.
Speaking to me, my first was the '89 when we couldn't resist it sitting there among the plain cars. Then the 91 plus with the glass hood. Having the 5 speeds meant I could run with the BMW 5's and surprise more than one V8 2 slammer. Got me on autotrader looking damn you.
I parked next to a 2019 tonight and found your video cause I had to know about this car. I just wanna say I appreciate your ENERGY, you are for sure a showman. 👏
I have a 16’ SHO. Coolest car ever built imo. Sound is good, and, the transmission is buttery smooth. So smooth. The launches, amazing.
Have had mine for years, love it, turbos make everything better.
Bought a 15 SHO last year, 1st owner never drove it in the winter, had 32k miles on it. 93 tunes, lowered, FBO, exhaust, couldn’t be happier with it!
I’m 20 and I actually got a 2013 SHO this year for my first car (that I actually own). First car I drove regularly was my Dad’s 2016 Charger R/T and then when I moved out he got me a 2014 Ford Taurus Limited with about 100k miles on it. Drove that for about 2 years and decided an SHO would be a nice return to the power the Charger R/T had while keeping the style and comfort that I enjoyed from my Taurus Limited. Awesome sleeper and cool to have such a unique car.
I agree my taurus very quite. I turned down my idle as well so I really can not tell when it’s running.
I literally just got my Ford Taurus SHO like last week, perfect timing
As a former owner, my sage advice is to flash Livernois Stage 1+ 93 Octane immediately.
@@Steebles1908 I just got a tune from unleashed. Livernois is good, but no longer ahead of the curve. I got a 91 tune because 93 isn't a popular option where I live. No significant mods and my car makes roughly 430 to the wheels
@@Steebles1908 is a tune worth does it really make a difference? I have a 14 sho but can't tell if the tune is worth the money?
@@ManWithNoName. Yes, its the best bang for the buck you can get out of that car upfront. Later on, you can run even hotter with bigger downpipes and methanol, but if you're not going whole-hog on a build it'll be the best 800 bucks you can spend on that car. I think Livernois claims a 90HP and 140TQ increase and while mine wasn't dynoed I can tell you it feels every bit as fast as that. The team at Livernois is awesome and I can't recommend their products enough.
How’s the transmission on these?

The SHO is definitely slept on. The handful I've driven can get up and go and they can be the perfect sleeper.

I got the mks version of it. And I love it to death! Such a great car
Yesss I have one myself thanks for this video❤❤💪💪
Usually I prefer Mopar, but when I totaled my 300 earlier this year I needed a replacement car. I was scared of the water pump and timing chain failure in Ford’s 3.7l-3.5l engines. After some very frustrating times searching for a car, I settled on a 2018 SHO since it came with a Ford preowned warranty.
Now I can say for sure that this car won’t lose to stock V6 Camaros and stock ecoboost mustangs like the 5.7l hemi does lol.
I really like the SHO a lot, they’ve come a very long way since the 2011 SHO I owned a few years ago. Some advice for anyone who wants a SHO/MKS: Try to get a 2016 or newer if possible. Sync3 is WAY better than myfordtouch. Also, I’m a bit spoiled and like digital speedometers which is an added feature beginning in 2016.

Not gonna lie. The last SHO with a few upgrades sounds good for my old broken ass.
I'm in my 40's and I'm a big guy. Had a '13 SHO and that thing devoured freeway with zero fatigue. I have a '16 Audi S6 now, and frankly they are about equivalent in terms of long distance comfort. Ford did a spectacular job with the ergonomics and the ride is buttery.
The Stage 1+ tune from Livernois is like $800 and you'll surprise a LOT of people.
If you can find one, get one. Big, comfy without being soft, well equipped (cooled leather seats are my new 'must have' along side the heated steering wheel). And you can add 100 HP for surprisingly cheap. And still run just fine on 89 octane, and be a bit of a beast on 95+.
Get a sho with a 93 octane tune and unleashed intercooler you’ll be making 420 AWHP

Haven’t watched the video yet but I literally bought one the day he posted this
Had one. Been there. Done that. A 1989.
The original Yamaha SHO motor was a one of the best engines ever put in a car, IMO. Definitely the best ever in a Ford. But the clutch and manual transmission were hard to shift. Ford recalled the clutch because it failed by 50k. Still, the SHO would outrun a same era Mustang GT. It would pull hard after shifting into 5th at 120mph, until it redlined at 145. Stunning. If you changed the pulleys and chip do it would rev 1500 RPM higher and sing Glory Be! Stock, it got 30mph on the freeway. In 1989! But only if you kept your foot out if it. Around town the mileage was around 17mpg.
The maximum mileage we ever got out if a set of tires: 18,000. That was the car's biggest negative to own, IMO.
Anyway, Ford eventually took over, redesigned the internals, started manufacturing the motor instead of importing it from Yamaha. They cut corners, turned it into a 8 cylinder POS, and it started failing internally. Ford really screwed that pooch.
Instead, they should have built a car around the Yamaha motor and just called it "SHO" or Shogun. But Ford built a different 2 door model car instead, a real piece, who's name I will not speak. Its lineage died off and no longer exists.
My wife kept the SHO and got T-boned 3 months after we split up. IMO, she did not deserve it, so Karma took it away from her.
I ended up buying 1997 Maxima SE. Great motor too, I still loved that SHO more. I still have the Maxima. I had to replace 2 coils at around 188k miles, and 2 belt pulleys. That's it. It's not quite as quick as the SHO and the leather seats are uncomfortable. Otherwise, its a better car all around.
My 91 SHO plus was the car that got Jason to put the OG WCEC business card under my wiper. I still have it. It used to say "nice sho" ... Eau Cleezy days.
Past 2013 is the ideal car better styling and upgrades i have a 2016 love it alot

Nope. Just your phone listening to everything and making suggestions.
Also dont underestimate the base 3.5l na fwd. it still has a 0-60 of about 7.1 seconds which isnt bad for a fwd 4300lb car. and if you get a 13 or newer you get twin independent variable valve timing boosting the na 3.5l from like 262hp to 280hp and you get a like 6.8-6.9 0-60. plus you can get limiteds for about 4-5g which they're comfy as hell. they're very safe too so you wont roll it over when you go sliding around a parking lot in the middle of winter.

Hey y’all there where no engine changes in the 4th Gen but changing valve covers from metal to plastic and the 4th Gen is 10-12 and the 5th Gen is 13-19
Just 4 gens bud. 13+ was just a facelift. Just like how the 18+ Mustangs are still part of the S550.

@@402SHO I can tell you right now my dad has a 4th gen which is a 14. And if the valve covers were all that changed, not even the heads, then no that isn't a new gen. You don't go calling the 18-20 F150 a 14th gen, it's still a 13th with a FACELIFT, and that's what the 13+ Taurus got, a facelift, small changes to the body and interior and in this case the valve covers, very little changes to the power and drive train. By you're logic there are over 7 gens of the Taurus which isn't the case. There are 6 Taurus gens and only 4 had the SHO/S.H.O. I did my research on this when my dad said he was looking to buy one, I know almost as much about the Taurus history as I do about the F150 history. I’m 21 and I have a 2013 SHO 😂😂 I love the little monster
The way I always heard the story about the Yamaha V6 and Ford was:
- In the mid 80s ford was developing a Fiero competitor. An affordable mid-engined, two seat sports coupe with a FWD drivetrain (in the back).
- Yamaha was brought on to make the V6 for said car.
- by 1987 Fiero was dead, ford changed plans and decided the engine they've already contacted Yamaha to build needs to go somewhere. Gee, this fwd super stylish new Taurus JUST won 10-best and became one of the most popular cars in the country, lets put it there.
- End result 1989 Taurus SHO
I remember RoboCop drove a Taurus 😂
😂

What are you guys with the 6th gen running as far as wheels? I can’t decide what is gonna look good and I wanna stay under a G not including tires.

Hey lads, what can you tell me about the EW10 J4S engine from the PSA group.
Is it reliable ?
Is it cheap ?
And most importantly, can you turbocharge it ?
(If not, are there other options among the PSA engines ?)
Got one. Love it. Used 2019 with only 9k on it. Still has factory warranty
Looking to get one for a good price could you give me some advice?
I had a 1992 cranberry red super ho in 1999-2000. Did a stage 2 carbon fiber clutch replacement and it grabbed 70% of the motor it would chirp in 4th. I would cruse driving state to state @ 130mph
