- Wrapping up my extreme nitpick of Peter Jackson’s first Middle-earth movie, we have insane character decisions, major tonal disconnects, and even a technical complaint.

When Bernard Hill was cast as Theoden, I was a bit doubtful, but he absolutely nailed it and gave a magnificent performance. In the book it's clear that Theoden has a premonition that he's riding to his doom, and Hill conveys this perfectly with an expression that briefly passes over his face.
When?
In tears here. He has gone to the Halls of his Father's ... where he will not be ashamed.
Plus, he'll march up to St. Peter and simply demand 'Gizza Job, go on, go on, Gizza Job !'

As you were talking about the boat scene, I realised another issue is that Frodo knows the entire place is flooded with Uruk Hai, so he must know Sam could easily be killed if he were to just "go back". I believe in the book Frodo left before the orc attack, but in the movie the rest of the Fellowship could already be dead for all he knows and he's just leaving Sam stranded.

I always have a little chuckle at the bit where Aragorn jumps onto the orcs. Maybe they didn’t choose the best take of Viggo, but when he shouts ‘Elendiiiil’ it doesn’t come across as a ringing war cry. He sounds more like a fun dad with his kids at the park hehe
Yeah, I think it partly is a result of his voice acting since he’s using a bit of an assumed accent. But also he just doesn’t have a deep, resonant voice anyway.
Wait… Aragorn is basically a superhero. Or in this context, a demigod. He’s a descendent of elf and maiar. And his battle prowess is framed from a mythic stand point. Basically, he’s a legendary mythical figure descended from the gods destined to be king. Of course he’s capable of legendary feats.
Melon Geek, I have grind marks in my mouth over these issues ever since the movies came out. And this is true, despite the Fellowship Extended Edition being the best of the three movies. It goes downhill from here! Not only is Galadriel made to seem "creepy," but she is also showing the power she has while refusing the Ring in a manner that befits an enemy or--for lack of a better descriptor---some kind of alien not found in ME. Unveiling the power within her, and perhaps using the power of Nenya, would not make her seem like a vampire or a Nazgul. (And this is also done in the Hobbit where she apparently banishes Sauron out of Dol Guldur.) I think Jackson could somehow have found a better way to illustrate her power. As usual, my dear melon, great work. Namarie.

I am probably wrong, but maybe Haldir received news from Galadriel, who was informed by Elrond, that Frodo was carrying The One Ring.😅

I think you missed a major point here. The very end of the book version of The Fellowship of the Ring, when Frodo (and Sam) slip away without telling any of the others, is perhaps my favourite part of the whole story. Frodo - as he himself explains - has to leave the others behind without telling them, because he doesn't want to take them towards almost certain death, he doesn't want to be persuaded to take the Ring to Minas Tirith, and whatever objections he would make to either idea wouldn't be understood by the other members of the group. And so, Tolkien provides us with this beautiful and disquieting scene of Frodo and Sam paddling away to the other shore, leaving the reader thinking: my god! what have they done?? they're setting off alone to almost certain death? and how are the rest of the Fellowship going to fare without them - if they ever get over the shock? When I read this the first time, I knew I was going to love this book forever, because it was some of the best writing I'd ever encountered. But Jackson had other ideas for the scene. One of them obviously was: how could Frodo simply slip off without saying goodbye to the others? What a downer for the cinema audiences - we need a sort-of happy, feel-goody resolution! And so, Jackson made sure that Frodo was able to say bye to all of them - even though that made a nonsense of Frodo's original decision to slip off without consulting them in the first place. It also robs us of the power of the scene of Frodo and Sam paddling away, if the others somehow just understand Frodo's decision and even give him permission to do it. We're also denied the scene where Aragorn has a moment of crisis thinking that it was his failed leadership that had led to this disaster - as well as his eventual recovery from this moment of crushing self-doubt and progression into true king material. I enjoyed much of the films, but this departure from the book for apparent "cinematic reasons" - along with the mess Jackson made of the Council of Elrond - really annoyed me and almost led me not to watch the rest of the franchise. Luckily, it was Jackson's worst transgression against Tolkien's writing (although there are a few other close candidates later on, e.g. the scene with the Mouth of Sauron.)
It would be cool to see a nitpicking but in terms of what the films did right/well.

Well the Ring is present but Gandalf is not, so he senses the presence of the Ring. It being present.
I don’t know if I agree about Galadriel. She was a pupil of Aule, who was a rebellious Vala and who’s pupils Sauron and Saruman turned to evil. She is a Noldo and was present in the rebellion. She wields a ring of power, which although made by Celebrimbor, is still a design of the enemy, and she seems to use it to the max. And, she yearns to rule over others, even desires ruling the whole of middle earth.
Galadriel is a ‘loose canon’ who, in my opinion could only really be trusted after she refused the one ring. Her pride and desire to be a boss, could easily have led her to the dark side.
The thing here is, that according to the Unfinished Tales, Tolkien's idea of Galadriel was changing with time. So there was an idea of her being rebellious and power hungry, but there was also an idea of her being the purest and best elf ever, who was equal to Feanor but never erred. Personally I'm with you, I like the "fall-from-grace" Galadriel a lot, cause it makes her more interesting, and it also makes her act of giving up the One Ring super impressive. But I'm not sure which version of her backstory was considered as cannonical by Tolkien himself.
You weren't the only one put off by Peter Jackson Galadriel. My elder sis kept referring to her as 'Creepy Elf' when we grew-up watching it, so 'YEP!' off-putting. Felt less
like benign elf-queen and more like Frodo was encountering Hecate and or The Morrigan! At least in the Backshi film she was portrayed without the whole Shining/Omen
thing going on and admittedly the Extended Edition of Hobbit did give us allot more the laid-back gentle Galadriel via her interactions with Gandalf so, redemption points there.
I always thought that Boromir just startled when Frodo disappeared and let go immediately. He didn't know that the ring could have that effect right?
I tend to agree, but again it’s the immediacy of the reaction that’s weird. There should be a slight delay but he seems to be affected instantly.
Actually, when Frodo puts on the ring, he enters the "spirit" world, not just becoming invisible, so it is more realistic that Boromir can no longer feel him!
He’s still physically present though. We know this because Bilbo still had to squeeze through the goblins’ door and lost his buttons.

I wanted book accurat flets in lothorian. I know they look just very slightly ewok village, but not really, and honestly Tolkien came first, get over it!

Completely agree that I never liked Creepy Galadriel. I think Peter Jackson allowed his love for horror to get in the way of those scenes.
I think Jackson's portrayal of the ring's 'visibility' is overdone and almost breaks his world as a result: it's hard to imagine it remaining undiscovered given how easily other beings are able to perceive it.

While I enjoy rewatching the films, I find 1/4 are cringe. However, the big hurdle is that since the movies made so much money that we won't get another adaptation for 50+ years.

I'm glad you're still making these. Even if I don't agree with any of your opinions. And think the first one was your worst video. Still, a lot of talent.
