Okay, since you asked: Joshua Palmer, aka Zeurel, has been doing online animation for 15+ years; and the earliest appearance of Shrike and Beebs is 2008, when he introduced them in an original-character tournament on DeviantArt (putting one's own OCs in another person's story and pitting them against other peoples' OCs -- they were a popular thing at the time). Originally they were more of a screwball duo; Shrike was pretty much the same, but Beebs was a lot more dense and goofy. There were also two sidekick characters, but they haven't appeared in the show so far (and probably won't seeing as Beebs has since adopted their character traits of 'the brains' and 'the straight-laced one'). So yeah, he's been workshopping this show for a while, evolving the concept and improving his skills over the years.
The most complete collection of his animation portfolio is on Newgrounds (his handle is "Zeurel" there as well) if you want to see more of his stuff, both related to Monkey Wrench and otherwise. Also, Ashley Palmer (voice of Queen Potoo) is his wife, which is useful information for a couple of his videos. --Edit: he also worked on a webseries called "The Locals," which is available on his CZcams channel.
