In this video of a multi-part video series, I want to share a few common phrases you should know when dating a mature Vietnamese woman.
My purpose in these videos is not to make you fluent in Vietnamese. It’s to help familiarize with common phrases so that your lady will see you’re making an honest effort to learn her language and customs, which will endear you to her.
In these video series want to introduce a special guest speaker whom I think is a better fit than me to share with you these common phrases. His name is Alex Nghiem and he is my Vietnamese boyfriend. Please welcome my special guest...
Hi, my name is Alex, and I want to share basic Vietnamese phrases you may want to learn when first meeting a mature Vietnamese woman.
Like many Asian languages, the Vietnamese language is very formal when it comes to addressing another person especially when you’re speaking to your lady or somebody who’s older, even if that person is unrelated to your or your lady. Doing this wrong can be considered rude and insulting to the other party, and we want to avoid that right?
The other thing to know is that a word in Vietnamese can be pronounced at 5 different pitches, which then changes the word’s meaning.
Even if you don’t get the pronunciation exactly right and even if she speaks fluent English, she will very much appreciate your attempt at learning her language. That communicates to her that you’re in this for the long term vs. a fling.
Today, Alex will share with you the two common Vietnamese phrases to compliment your lady friend:
1. "Your eyes are beautiful" or "You have beautiful eyes".
2. "You have beautiful hair" or " Your hair is beautiful".
In future videos, I’ll share some more phrases that you may want to learn.

Curious what are the steps in marrying a vietnamese woman? I was told but didn't quite understand- earrings, necklaces pretty much the jewelery aspect or the gifts that are involved. Thanks
To be honest, there has been a lot of changes from the modern Vietnam society for the last couple decades. Therefore, many traditions has also changed. All we can share with you is that all the requirements and steps that you need to follow will mainly depend on your lady's family and her parents. Some of them still want to keep as many traditions as possible. Some are more open-minded, they would simplify the traditions. In general, the simplest way nowadays include an engagement party and wedding reception. The jewelry aspect is considered as a part of the gifts that the groom's side will give to the bride.
Vietnamese Women never feel comfortable to any compliment to their appearances. unless they noticed they are looked better than the others. the Best way is to compliment them about their dress, their hair, their skill or their acts or attitude.
