The Russell Crowe owned South Sydney Rabbitohs were so named during the depression when many of the players would sell Rabbits as it was a staple part of most people diet in those tough times. The players would walk the streets pushing their barrow yelling Rabbitoh Rabbitoh. It great to see an NRL team stick with tradition instead of using an Americanised version of their nickname.
The way I heard it the Souths uniform was originally just green, and the lads would wear them while pushing their barrows. Apparently the wealthier Easts players complained so much about all the blood on the uniforms that Souths changed their colours to green and red out of spite!

Just so you know, there is a lot of significance and history behind some of these logos
NZ Warriors - logo represents the Maori warrior and the tainui tribe who once owned the team and since the tribe sold them, their logo was slightly modified with the tongue being more straightened
Parramatta eels - the eels once thrived in the Parramatta River and there was a local indigenous clan from the darug nation known as the Burramatta which translates to the place where eels lie down, when you have a chance to walk around Parramatta, you'll see indigenous art of the eels swimming in the river.
South Sydney Rabbitohs - there use to be men in the late 1800s and early 1900s who walk around the streets of Redfern, selling skinned rabbits and they use to shout "Rabbit-ohs" which is where they got their name.
Penrith Panthers - the club is based on the foot of the blue mountains and for over 80 years, there have been rumours of escaped Panthers from a circus that would roam the streets of Penrith at night and there would be multiple sightings of a big cat like creature in bushlands.
Cronulla Sharks - they were once known as the Cronulla-Sutherland D.R.L.F.C with the endeavour ship on their emblem which their area represents where Captain James Cook landed when he discovered Australia in 1788. They changed to the Sharks logo in the 70s as Cronulla is a beach town and Sharks are quite common at their beaches. There's also a reef off one of their main beaches that is called Shark island.
Canterbury Bulldogs - before they were known as the Bulldogs, they were known as the Berries as Canterbury was once a berry farm and the players were berry farmers. The name changed when owner Peter Moore wanted his team to sound more aggressive with grit and fearful and the Bulldog name happened. They earned the Nick name "the Dogs of war" where their forward pack was the most feared in the competition.
North Queensland Cowboys - consider Queensland to your Texas, the Australian version of cowboy is Stockmen, there were massive cattle stations in North Queensland and I think they still exist hence the significance to the area

A note on the Bulldogs logo. I'm a member of the club and voted for our logo. It's intentionally meant to be not too aggressive. The club has obviously been through a lot of scandals and we needed a logo that reflected trust rather than aggression. So I can understand why he's not a fan of it. But as you say, it does reflect our history.

St. George have had that logo since the 1970s, then when they formed a joint venture with Illawarra they just tacked on Illawarra at the bottom.
There’s a lot more behind the st George Illawarra logo. The “knight”/ soldier in the back on the horse is actually meant to be a person called St George, and is described as the dragon slayer, hence the white dragon. This is all obviously a legend and nothing that is 100% true but something very interesting🤷🏽♂️

As a Storm fan I'd say we had the best logo in the NRL for years, it's a shame that's our old logo but, we got a new one in 2018 doesn't look nearly as good

My grandfather was a an actual Rabbito during the great depression.
Rabbito meaning hunter and vendor of rabbit meat and skin's which got a lot of families through the depression food wise.You need to understand that the bottom three logos are team logos that remain untouched because of the history and loyalty behind these club's.
As a Tiger's supporter without a doubt they have the best NRL logo.(No bias 😅)

Not sure if any one commented on this, but the Eels logo was changed twice prior. They had a different logo from 2000-2004 and then another from 2005-2010. They went back to that logo from 2011 onwards at fans request

Reason for the name Rabbitohs is because the original players hunted rabbits. Parramatta in English means where the eel sleeps thats why they a called Parramatta eels. Awesome video bro keep it up

To elaborate on the rabbits. During the depression obviously people were very poor and rabbit was an easy to get an cheap meat. People and some players would sell the rabbit meat yelling the term “Rabbitoh”
This created the nick name in the Redfern/ Sydney region of calling them Rabbitohs.

Hey there's been documentary released by the NRL called the evolution of rugby league, react to it or not I still reckon it would be very interesting for such a knowledgeable newcomer to this sport
if you didn't know, pro rugby league is coming to the US through New York in the English Challenge Cup (in 2021), and there's 2 professional rugby league teams in Canada in the English league (Toronto Wolfpack in Super League and Ottawa Aces, the newcomers in the league for 2021)
You should check out the English leagues, they're also entertaining. Try ranking those logos, I'd like to see your take on the 12 SL teams.
