  • This video shares my ride on the Neuse River Trail in Raleigh North Carolina. It also shows how are pedestrians and riders coexist on the Neuse River Trail. The video picks up at Anderson Point, Raleigh North Carolina which is a big hub with plenty of parking on the Neuse River Trail, and many riders and pedestrians like to enter the trail. One of the families walking on the trail expressed their exasperation with me by yelling SLOW DOWN. I'm riding an ICE VTX Recumbent Trike and this was about 20 Mile ride

Love your videos! I'm saving for my 1st recumbent trike. Your videos make me want to charge it and worry about it latter. Lol

I have been riding the NRT for years, as well as riding Burke Gillman and Sammamish River trail in Seattle. I find that generally speaking the trail users here are less likely to stay to the right and allow for use of the trail by others. That, along with the increase of inexperienced users due to Covid makes for more confusion. I also find that there is increased activity along the trailheads is something to watch out for. Once you get farther away from the trailheads, particularly south of Anderson Point, it is less traveled. I am very thankful for the greenway system we have here, and I tell everyone that it is here for all of us to enjoy.

J great point, I am very thankful. I’m hoping this rain will clear and I can get a ride in tomorrow morning.

Nice ride, nice video, nice blended music. Thanks. You are getting good at this. Have to watch out for the pedestrians....I always yell out on left or right when passing and i have a booming voice....the only problem is that most folks are wearing their earbuds for music and are oblivious and just wandering down the middle of the path.

I know that there are speed limits to protect walkers but yes they should not be taking up the whole side of the trail, but also you should ride slower to watch out for kids. You do not need to speed on trails just enjoy the ride. Leave the speed riding for the roads. Thanks for sharing it is a great video. Use a horn to give people time to move out of your way. Courtesy on both sides works wonders. Happy times to all.

Its a given fact that the pandemic has introduced a vast number of people to the bike trail Albeit for bike riding or just hiking ...
Even on my favorite bike trails they are now much more crowded with foot traffic as well as novice bike traffic.
Which means slow and steady wins the race ... lol Nice Vid .. Keep em coming.

Thanks ChisWest. We are definitely seeing a lot more foot and bike traffic for sure.

We must always remember that pedestrians have priority. If you want to go fast ride the roads. Here in Ohio the Spandex set rides our 20 MPH trails as if they are in a race and are very scornful of slower participants whether bikes or pedestrians. If you want to ride fast get your ass onto the roads.

Talk to some people about the Virb 360. One thing to remember is 360 video takes tremendous processing and space. Just so you know up front. I have a few 360 videos, and they took forever to process. Maybe the Virb software is more friendly than Samsung.

Lol that reminds me of an old story. A man with a horse and wagon gets to town and is stopped by the Sheriff for whipping his horse. The man simply explains he was trying to obey the posted 30 mph speed sign.

Thanks Steve, most of my recording happens on the Neuse River Trail, in Raleigh, NC. This particular trail is very nicely paved.

My stomping grounds (The Loop) in Tucson AZ has a 15mph speed limit.
I obey, or often even slower, when passing kids & dogs. Otherwise, try to catch me coppers lol.
City has recently painted “SLOW” on path in dangerous areas due to complaints I’m sure. Next step is radar/tickets. Last step is limiting trail usage ie no bike area. Saw that happen in Northern California in the 80’s/90’s when gonzo MTB riders invaded trails:)

How do you notify pedestrians that you are approaching from behind?

You took the left side of that curve because it was faster, but it is a blind turn because of the rock. If that family had been closer, you would have had more probability of hitting them. Stay to the right, unless you can see down the road while on the left side.

I have learned to treat trails as my social ride and the road as my training ride, unless I want to be on the trail at five in the AM, and I’d rather be in the bed at that time.

I call them COVIDIOTS! People who have no awareness that the trail is used by other people too! I had a guy tell me to slow down as I passed at 8 MPH, he was walking in the middle of the trail while walking his dog and another bike was coming towards us.

Trails in many states have a “top speed” designation (by law). I believe that here in Illinois that is 15 MPH. From my perspective the situation that arises between pedestrians and cyclists on a trail is quite similar to that in which an automobile and a cyclist find themselves. Most cyclists believe that automobiles should give them at least 3 feet of passing room and that automobiles should keep their speed “under control” especially in communities where children are likely to be playing. Again, in Wheaton, Illinois automobiles have a lawful duty to observe a 25 MPH speed on neighborhood streets.Cyclists need to observe the speed restrictions of their states when on trails and consider themselves the “motorists” who need to offer pedestrians “at least 3 feet of space” when passing and should reduce speed when approaching them.

Yeah. There are ignorant people & there are arrogant people. Ignorant to their surroundings & others. Arrogant in that they think the trail/sidewalk is their sole property & others need to make way for them. Do you remember the term, road hog?
Leastwise, you don't have, as we do here in California, homeless people sleeping right in the middle of the path during the noon day sun. Now that is arrogance & obliviousness.
    Keep on truckin'

If you could stop spamming my Facebook groups with links to your channel that would be great. Were you to interact with the members I would not mind but you just treat it like a spam portal. Not cool.

@@themotivatedrider3840 let try all the recumbant trike groups. Its great that you have your own channel and that you enjoy riding your trike, however your constant spamming of every single facebook group you're a member of with every single video you produce is unnecessary.
Try getting involved in the groups without the video links. I searched for you name in one of the groups and the only time your name came up was in connection to a link you posted to another of your boring monotonous videos of the road in front of you and an occasional break in one corner with your telling us something that honestly...i have yet to see actually play out in your video.
I will be honest, I didn't watch this particular one all the way to the end, I got bored and started reading the comments which are much more entertaining and create some laughs...

Also, if you hit a pedestrian, besides feeling bad - you’re paying their medical bills & maybe worse.
I see riders every ride that are riding too fast. Funny how they are always faster than me:)

I really don't understand your videos. I watched the first few through, but now its like a VTX commercial. Plus, these are kids, why are you so entitled to the trail? Your tag is "motivated rider" well then, "be the change in the world you wish to create" and quit making videos to humbelbrag about your $6k trike and judge others. MHO.
