    I really appreciate your inclusion of what product lines you are using as most CZcamsrs don't mention the products being used. In 1961, I painted my old 1951 Dodge in the backyard of my parent's home in Orlando. I had less than $10.00 to cover the paint job, so I went to the Mary Carter house paint store and purchased two quarts of enamel house paint that cost $4.00. They had a two-for-one special, so I got the two quarts for a total of $4.00. What I used for a reducer was old-school Amoco white gasoline that cost about thirty-eight cents a gallon. I then purchased one roll of masking tape for about fifty cents and walla, my paint job was less than $5.00. It was then that I learned about the ten-foot rule. If I stood ten feet away, the paint job looked almost good.

    Super appreciating this content ✌️
    Cars are not what they used to be . Well , back in my youth they were all built like tanks and gasoline was cheap . You could have a marching band of people walk on the hood and roof and you would never know it. But todays cars need more attention and focus making it more challenging.
    I did plenty of dolly work and hammering but I also had 4 times the thickness of sheet metal to work with .

    Watching Fred spray anything is like watching a sorcerer work. I consciously know it's basic physics -- surface tension, chemical bonding, and such -- yet watching it come together has a magical element to it. 👍

    Nice clean presentation, Fred. I enjoy watching your body and paint videos despite being a wood fabricator and finisher. You've got a clear, knowing description for each step of the way. The owner of this Mazda must be thrilled!

    I relate to adding "a tad" more reducer. We used to add "a bloop" more as needed!

    Dude I went through 3 hoods fighting the skeleton frame problem with getting it flat never did get one as perfect as I wanted. What I found to help was turn the hood upside down and squirt liquid nail between the sheet metal and skeleton frame . A little goes a long way LOL let it dry for a few days then do body work!

    Hi Fred, Looks like you were born to paint!! Also does solvent pop cause delamination? I had some places where clear over time came off in circle spots. Man you make it look so effortless. Great job,video and channel outstanding!!!

    Afew years ago I was replacing the hood an fenders on my truck. I bought replacement parts online and the new pieces I bought arrived in worse condition than the old pieces I was replacing. Is there a reputable place that sells replacement panels that don't come all dented and warped or is that just the industry norm? Thanks

    Brilliant video. I’ve been watching your channel pretty much from the start and love it. I’m into painting guitars rather than cars but the paint and techniques seem pretty much the same. Hopefully this isn’t a stupid question but is the sealer cost what we’d call primer here in the UK or is it a different product?

    • @simonkibble3810
      @simonkibble3810 Před 2 lety +2

      I should have done my own research before asking this question. I’ve now educated myself on the difference! Would you still recommend a sealer over 2k primer sanded to 600 grit before base coat or is that overkill on a guitar, given the much less harsh environment it lives in compared to a guitar?

    • @UWrenchTV
      @UWrenchTV  Před 2 lety +2

      Fred said that for your application painting guitar bodies it might be overkill to use a sealer unless you want to save on the amount of base color you have to spray by using a sealer that you can tint to help with the amount of base coat you need to apply.

      @@UWrenchTV thanks so much for the info. Tell Fred I think he looks less like Charlie Manson these days! You might remember that was my comment on one of your first vids. I’m so glad your channel is going well. If I ever make it back to Tucson (I’m in the UK) I’ll definitely swing by to say hello. Last visit was in 2013 to see the plane museum and AMARG!
