Is there a reason for making them into balls first?

Just for portion control to make them end up roughly the same size

Festival ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour (sifted)
1 cup of cornmeal
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp butter or more
optional:
Cinnamonamon, nuttingmeg or allspice
mix all dry stuff
