Btw, I think it’s crazy how creators have to have “shock factor” in the titles, hence this one and it’s like you're being arrogant because it implies I think I'm the top 1% HAHA. Overall, the point is that these tips will definitely help you stand out and rise above to reach your potential! I have found what many consider some success in my life thus far, so this video is a reminder of what I want to continue doing as well. Let's grow together!

1) Do a bit more than required
2) Learn, even if you aren't expected to
3) Read. It improves your attention span and gives you something to talk about.
4) Ask more questions, seek more answers.
5) Invest in what you know will make your life better
Don't put constraints on what you do based on requirements. Requirements are just to give you an idea where you stand, but they shouldn't stop you from doing more.
Love this summary and the brief explanations from your pov! Thank you and best of luck :)
@@wamyy5how to be cute like you?
How I will implement these tips into my life:
1) I am going to explore my academic interests by watching TED talks, reading articles, deep diving through the internet etc.
2) I am going to search online for resources explaining the foundational knowledge for the field I want to go into (I am interested in Structural Engineering and have found websites such as structural basics).
3) I am going to set aside time every morning to read. Currently I‘m reading a book on How To Read Buildings by Carol Davidson Cragoe
4) I am going to truly engage with people in conversations by asking them questions. Also, I’m gonna keep asking Qs and discussing interesting topics on Reddit.
5) I‘m going to be more thoughtful about my spending, especially thinking about how items will impact me in the long-term.
These gave me some ideas to thannk you for sharing😊
Amy, thank you so much for this advice! I was never doing any of things and this made me realise that I need to do more, but without stressing myself out. I would study for a quiz all week, then once my results came in, I would be happy. This lasted until I would ask somebody what they got. I was so immersed into what other people think of me that I forgot to be proud of my own accomplishments. Even when I would try very hard for something, people would ask me why I was, which would make me feel excluded and weird. I prefer not to say my age, but I am at an age where people would say “It’s way too early to be thinking of college, stop and enjoy your life.” While this is true in the aspect of not pushing yourself too hard, trying to raise your standards to at least get in the habit of doing so, isn’t wrong. In my eyes, it’s never too early to do something and you should never listen to anything that people say about you unless they are truly trying to help you. Don’t let that purge out of you mind, ever.
Hey really appreciate your comment! It sounds like you’re doing awesome and already having the mindset to work harder than maybe those around you, which is the crucial first step. Indeed - don’t let others dim your light. What matters at the end of the day is how you see yourself. I’m super happy to hear that my video is helpful. I can totally relate in that I always seemed to consider things earlier than expected for my age. Keep me updated with your growth journey ❤
aww good luck!
She's becoming my favourite youtuber and I'm really grateful for her advice, truly being extra and putting in effort shouldn't be stigmatized and even if it is our goals and the result is far more important than a few comments from people, and I also have to learn to reach MY full potential and be the best of MYSELF and not focus on others achievements or compare myself to others
YES I love how you beautifully summarized this. I truly hope you realize how amazing you are and do the extra things to reach your potential and live your dream life. So honored to be called your favorite CZcamsr ❤️
You really got me off the bed to study at night even tho I didn’t start school yet ! Wish me luck on my journey
Thank you so much, Amy❤btw sorry for the long reply in advance :
after watching your video, I realised that half of the things you mentioned are already some things that I have implemented in my life and now it's much, Much better than my yesteryears. But now the small thing is I'm really lacking the courage, determination and effort to work on my academic skills, or more briefly, my math. And here's the weird part, all the people around me, friends or family friends, elder brother are like practical, great at academics, and practically overachievers that I'm proud of every single day, but then there's me who's ALMOST close to them, except the fact that I'm good at every subject besides math and science, is more emotional, creative and wants to follow a life path where I fulfill my dreams, like singing, game development etc. How should I then build my skills in finance, computer and stuff, cause I'm in 10th grade and I feel like I don't have time anymore😅😢
This is helpful advice and the compound improvement thing makes sense especially if someone is trying to adjust in a new environment.
One other thing that might need to be mentioned is how important it is to celebrate each LVL UP because some people like me are so caught up in feeling like they need to improve that they dont even notice that theyve gotten better at anything. People like me only notice the areas where theyre inadequate and I'm colorblind to anything that's praiseworthy. But to actually see it as "I'm improving X% each day, so by the end of the year I'll be Y% better" I feel like thats a much better way to look at it which I havent realized before
i’m going to start this leet code website!! thank you so much Amy, you’re so driven and i absolutely admire that.
Yay super happy to hear that! Yes, DigiCafe is a great experience - I’m almost done with my first course. Also, really appreciate your kind words. You’re awesome!
I have been in the productivity community for years and i got to say, I LOVE YOUR CONTENT. CZcams algorithm led me into your channel and i got A MIND BURST from your videos. Because almost all of the videos i watched were too complicated or too "motivational" or not talking about real stuff. I am a psychology student so i do know a bit about cognitive skills that can improve your productivity or efficiency but knowing and actually "doing it" is different. I literally watched almost all of your videos in two days, i know i should've study lololol, but the point is when i went to my psychometry class today morning, i actually listened and learned because i broke my old beliefs because of your content's influence. Thank you so much for helping me on my life journey, i will always cherish that. And my plan is to study more efficiently, learn intermediate statistics in winter break, learn a little about coding, get back at my language studying also. Thank you a billion times ❤

Yay no worries - I always appreciate you watching my videos, William! I know life is busy to always watch videos right when they come out. Thank you! Hope you've been well too :)
Right when I'm getting lazy again. Thank you so much for this video Amyy! I'm back to being motivated to do advance studies so that I hopefully can touch highest honors this year. Wish me luckk!!
I think the advice is very true but I think the best way to do stuff is just doing them and if you fail you learn from it and start again. For example when I attended 8th grade (middle school in my country I am not from the US) I didn't preform well because the subjects were boring for me at the time and Prior to that I only got good grades so I was in a lot of pressure to exel in school, but one day I decided that I just want to learn in my own way no matter the grade I will get so I took some text books from the library and started to explore the material I hated not to long ago and consequently math became fun because it became a big riddle and I started to learn physics and by the 11th grade I started my degree in physics. I finished high school few months ago and I got avarge scores becuse I didn't put much effort but I have been working hard on my degree and in contrast to my high school scores I got really good marks and learned a lot (I have a year left). So in conclusion I think that the whole grade deal is not indicative of your ability to succeed and if you want to do or learn something just do it and if you don't succeed think about what went wrong and use your powerful knowledge and determination as your tools next time you try. (sorry if my English is bad it's my second language and I tried my best).
Peace be upon you, Amy.
Did you know that the principle you talked about at the start of the vlog is also reflected in the comprehensive self-help book by James Clear (Atomic Habits)? If one deteriorates even a tiny bit from the calculated path they've set to achieve their goals, well then by the end of the road they would've completely lost the main target. Similarly like you mention that it's the tiny tweaks & increase in positive habits/routines on a daily basis that finally accumulate to something substantial in the end!
The rest of the vlog focused on doing the 'extra bit' in all different aspects one can think of, ranging from financial to physical to emotional for reaching your desired outcomes.
Amy, when you mentioned the notion that while many will be watching this vlog, but very few will actually 'follow' the advice in it, and those who do can make it to top 1%. It reminded me of an article I once read that talked about foolproof advice to get into the top US 🇺🇲 colleges. It mentioned something that I have found to be important for any goal you want to achieve in life. The article highlighted the importance of how much top US colleges appreciate the commitment of the applicant to pursue one main focus area/type of extracurricular activities. Rather than spreading yourself superficially on so many types of extracurricular activities, top US colleges want to see that an applicant has focused on one (or max 2) areas/types of extracurricular activities and has chosen to reach the max peak of those activities as much as a high school student can. This shows to top US colleges that an applicant has the potential to become master of one rather than master of none which will prove to be something better for the world in future. For example, if a candidate has chosen environmental work for their extracurricular activities they're passionate about, then the max peak that can be reached is published research or starting a small scale environmental sustainability teamwork project that actually works. And so the article mentioned that few will read this advice and even fewer will implement on it. And consequently the very few who implement will get into the top US colleges. (By the way, these are the things admissions officers look for to differentiate between applicants when many have the same high academic grades & standardized test scores.) Similarly even in other areas of life, whatever goal/purpose you have, go into the depth of whatever you are pursuing to reach the peak and beyond. I believe the advice you mention regarding performing the 'extra bit', should be channeled to achieve the peak of your career/purpose etc by going into its depth. A similar concept has been expressed by the famous self-help author Mark Manson as "freedom through commitment" in his book 'The Subtle Art...'. Mark Manson says that life & our attention spans are short and that we must make conscious choices based on healthy values that focus on choosing a few things that matter, including and for our purpose/goal and then focusing ruthlessly only on them to achieve the peak of the goal/purpose. In a world where superficiality and 'fake freedom' is marketed to us 24/7 by flooding our thoughts with endless useless products and life choices, we must navigate life by choosing the few things that actually matter and then focusing on them alone to go into their depth and reach their peak and thus achieve 'freedom through commitment' which is actually the real freedom. The same concept is explored in his second book 'A Book About Hope'. Both books are a must read.
When I was in high school, I focused a lot on my extracurricular activities related to space 🚀🪐🌠 (I am a space enthusiast) to achieve the peak in them, but I also utilised my extra time to achieve the 'extra bit' in farming too, another thing I am really passionate about. I hope that gets me into Caltech. Similarly, you are focusing your time & energies to reach the peak of consulting+content creator for now which will lead you to the depth & peak & beyond of your ultimate life goal/purpose too.
Also, I felt like I was listening to a published self-help author who's made a CZcams channel! I am not exaggerating. Given the distinct experience you have as a Caltech & MIT alumni, all the superwoman tech skills & self-help/coaching skills you've gained throughout the years, it's time for you to pen them down in the form of a book! The legacy of an influential book lasts forever! There is something timeless & so puissant about the power of written word! You don't have to put any extra effort on writing the book, you can just start by compiling your CZcams self-help vlog content in the form of words and then arrange them according to a theme which resonates with a selected title of the self-help book. It'll be challenging, but I don't think it's that much of a big challenge given the obstacles you've already surmounted in your life given your achievements. Plus, it'll be something you enjoy doing since you love reading books too. (Just saw that you've also uploaded a live series of reading at 6 am on your CZcams channel and that is so so candid of you! Thank you a million times for sharing your routines in such a highly candid way. You're so so brave! I mean who does that! I am stunned!) I am definitely buying that book and I am sure it'll be a bestseller. I'll pray for you that it does become a bestseller. Literally, I will pray.
Also, you can make your own unique self-help videos one of the prominent themes of your CZcams channel. Continue to add your own self-help touch to them.
And I've compiled the list of books you've recommended on your channel and I've started to read them on a daily basis one by one: Unscripted: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Entrepreneurship by M. J. DeMarco,
The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life & Business by Charles Duhigg, How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. If I've missed any, feel free to tell. I completely value your advice, including book recommendations! Kindly suggest me any movies & TV shows too which I should be watching.
Furthermore, I want to add an advice which I think you'll appreciate. Whatever we do for the pursuit of our goals must be done in a passionate and fun loving way so that we enjoy the 'process', the 'journey'. We must find ways to enjoy the 'process' of reaching the goals. For example, if one is conducting academic research, they should be delighted and feel emotions of awe and self respect whenever they discover something new. These emotions have to be released 'deliberately' (wiring your brain to it) and eventually the brain becomes habitual to these new neural pathways. The examples are endless. Even if you're watching a movie or a tv show, make sure the theme/content is something that's teaching you regarding your goal (like many med/bio enthusiasts learnt a lot from the tv show House MD). (Amy, I'd like you to check out the wonderful self-help book 'How Emotions Are Made' by Lisa Feldman Barrett. You're gonna love it.)
P.S. I absolutely loved writing this comment for you! Even though I am posting this comment now (sorry for the delay because life is so busy), I wrote the majority of it around 2 am/3 am (my local time) a few days ago and there was a certain tranquility I felt writing it in the quiet & calm of the night for a benevolent person like you! I don't know how to put that tranquility into words but I hope you get it!
Like I said in my previous comment on your 'How I never burnout & keep leveling up. Day in the life of a consultant + creator' vlog that
"I am going to be watching your content regularly now and give positive constructive feedback continuously. You absolutely deserve it a 100%!
I am literally trying my best to remember you in my prayers as much as I can. Here for you! You got it!"
Thus here is my regular continuous positive constructive feedback. Hope it helps! Feel free to save this comment for your future help and to reread it whenever you want to. It'd be an honor for me too.
Stay blessed and remember me in your prayers too. Would mean the world to me!
Hi, thanks as always for your long, thoughtful comment! Though it is late here, I read every word. I'll take some time in the next week or so to write a more comprehensive response, but again, so grateful for you time and effort to write your advice, compliments, and overall message :)
back with a great vid!
Yeee thanks for coming back!
Probably the most important skill then is learning how to learn effectively. Those who learn things just 1% faster have that competitive advantage that builds over time.
Totally agree!
Thanks Amy for the super insightful video! I learned a lot and look forward to implementing all the advice you gave. I look forward to reading more, asking more questions, and doing a little extra in everything I do, whether that be learning or exercising! :)

Hey WAmy, OG subscriber here from caltech vlogs, really love your content, right now I am really struggling to get a biotechnology internship, I was looking to get some guidance on this, as they are not as common as IT or big tech internships.
Hi! Wow thanks for being an OG subscriber ❤️ That’s a great video idea that’s been on my list! Could you please help me with some specific questions that I could answer regarding your struggle? Thanks!
@@wamyy5 Sure, I was thinking mostly about how I can stand out when applying to these internships. You can start by walking us through how you landed the biotech internship. I have looked for a lot of information in this regard on the internet, and have not found anything, I think your video, if you choose to make it, will stand out as one of its kind.
Specifically, my goal is to get into an R&D position, so I want to get an R&D internship at any biotech company.
I do not really go to a big school like Caltech, so I might lack those connections, but I am extremely passionate about the field as I have a lot I can do for the field. Please share some of the connections you have acquired and how you acquired them during your internship.
My school is more technical and has more internships in mainstream engineering fields like computer, mechanical, electrical, and so on.
I have felt that I am mostly in the dark about what employers hiring for biotech internships want, as I continue to face rejections, even for positions where I am a top candidate.
If you can also clear the air on whether doing a more advanced degree, like a master's degree, would help in landing internships in the field.
I keep having all these great ideas, like (1.) They have these huge hay fields where I live. I thought that someone could make a lot of money by shipping that hay by railroad to places where the hay crop didn't do well. Shipping hay by railroad has been done before, but not recently, and they have such a concentration of supply where I live. (2.) I had this idea that Walmart could make a bunch of money if they started a convenience store chain and use Walmart distribution. (3.) They could put lasers on tanks and shoot down incoming anti tank missiles. (4.) Someone could make a LOT of money by using Facebook as a model and networking job applications and hiring. I've had other ideas too, more than I can remember. I believe that these ideas occur only once for each situation. If I hired on at Walmart I don't think I could have more good ideas for that company. I have these ideas with scant information. My wish is to keep ideas like this coming. I'm having fun. Also, I'm unsuited for anything else. I could get a job washing dishes in a restaurant, but I don't think I would have as many great ideas if I did that. I don't do well at a lot of jobs because my mind is always somewhere else. I'm very absent minded. I'll get up to do something and forget what I was going to do. I'm terrible about not remembering other people's names. My main desire is to keep these great ideas coming.
I’m already doing it, but I’m a physicist and that’s what we do. Excellent advice all Facts 💯 9:59
The effort and energy at the start
As for my contribution for aquiring my top 1% title, I'll stop being satisfied with low effort work.
I used to be a perfectionist like this before, but had to change for my mental health. It brought me to point of suicidality. HOWEVER, I think because I know how it is when it's maladaptive, I should be able to be a perfectionist again in a more healthy manner. Wish me luck!👍
Hi Amy, thank you so much for the advice! This is a little random - is the book you're reading at 4:42 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People'? I'm reading that book right now (working on Habit 1) and it's already revolutionising the quality of my life, so I got super excited when I saw a book that looks like it in your video :D
Thank you for watching!! Yes it’s that book and I love it! Glad you like it too :)
I am priviledged enough to be able to study Computer Science at a renowned university. But there I usually feel like every one else is smarter than me or just putting in more effort than me. And while I am not... terrible (I only feel that way), I am definitely not one of the better students. Which is why I am here. Watching these videos. Lol. Somehow I still feel lost though. I guess it's a matter of an all or nothing mindset. I am bad at doing "one more". Because either I don't do anything at all or I go over the top and burn myself out. At the same time, I struggle with distinguishing between laziness with making sure I don't go over the top.
I love this SOOO SOOO much! Thank you for sharing your words of encouragement. I’ve applied myself a little more lately. Also, I start grad school in January, I’m up for walking/running 4.5 miles at a time and also ready more. I look forward to how I progress in the next year. Continue sharing and being great! Thanks again!

I am slowly starting to build small key stone habits (just picking up one small good habit or task to add every week) . This way I prevent myself from feeling overwhelmed with change and I know even before I notice it those habits will be a part of my daily life requiring little to no will power for me to execute them.
That's amazing! It's great you know keystone habits because many people drop off when they try to take on too many new changes like you said! Perfect mindset :)
The intro was very similar to Ruri Ohama's video about "How to get ahead of 99% of people" but quickly differentiated itself by taking a different and similarly insightful path and perspective on the same subject
Ahh I love Ruri’s videos! Yes, I think I was indeed inspired by her intros for this topic. Appreciate your kind words and for watching!
Another question for you, Amy: did you have to score 90-100% on all homework, p-sets, and exams for an A or A+ in any STEM course at Caltech or they are so difficult that even 50% or lower would get an A or A+?
Definitely I didn't score 90+ for everything to get an A haha
@@wamyy5
So Caltech could give an A or A+ for even a 50% or lower score on homework or quiz or p-set or exams, correct?
Awesome video. Striving for self-improvement can be really lonely and it’s nice that there’s people out there who are so committed! What keeps you driven everyday to get into the 1%? I find that inertia is real, and things that make our life more comfortable also make it harder for us to push to do a little more.
I remember that I only have one life and I want to live it knowing that I did myself justice. We all have our unique strengths, but they don't matter if we don't use them or work toward better!
I love that. On a day to day basis it can be disheartening because you’re so far from greatness. But fast forwarding, it will be so rewarding to keep pushing to reach ambitious goals in the end. Might as well make the most out of your life. :)
Hi Amy, thanks for the video. Pls do more videos on software development.. love from India.
Thanks! What do you want to see specifically?
Depending on your school, if you, play fall, winter, and spring sports, you can get a gym waiver and not have that class drag down your GPA.
Hi Amy! I was wondering if you were gonna start the 6am reading again because i noticed you mentioned it on your Instagram a while back.
Hi yes! Will start the reading sessions again once I get settled into my new place :)
Fantastic, high-quality as per usual 💯❤️.
Notes for myself:
1. Do one more (always a bit more than required and more every day -> gradually!!)
2. Learn proactively -> give yourself an advantage!
3. Read more
4. Ask questions! You don't need to make all mistakes yourself, learn from other people's mistakes
5. Invest money to make money - invest in yourself/ your skills or helpful gadgets
!Being extra, passionate, obsessed and caring is cool :) you don't need to be unbothered to be cool
Love this! Especially your last point
You are brutal! Very nice video.

you can only compound quality to your genetic limit but you can definitely compound quantity. i'm surprised more people don't work weekends that's another 100 days you could be accumulating. if that's too much you can still devote a few hours each day to your side hustle and that will eventually add up. of course, the real secret to wealth is electrodynamic propogation.
i loved your video! do you (or anyone else) mind telling me what weighted p.e. class they took online?
I actually really like most of what she says here. Im also just crushing over here😂❤. But there is one thing Ive been focusing on when it comes to “Self Improvement”. It seems like these ways of self improvement happen to be all the ways the world prescribe to us that we should be good at/ work on. Anyone can pick up a coding language given enough time. Anyone could learn any particular thing. Having the solution of “Working Harder” works really well when someone wasn’t trying hard to begin with, but what about when your at full capacity? Eventually there is going to be a wall we all hit where progress starts to slow down. Do you feel like there are some areas in life where this “can-do” mindset of yours doesn’t shine? For me, it used to be anything that had any social consequence would cause me to shy away from (not anymore but its just an insight). I would want to be the kind of person who could design his own life eventually and still be exceptional at all the thing’s I choose to do, instead of following a path laid out for me just to “out-compete”. (This isn’t neccesarily entrepreneurial either, but anything) I don’t like to be sold a dream, because there isn’t ever going to be a good enough “pat on the back” for you when its said and done. I really appreciate people seemingly like this girl though. Amazing. Thank you.
Super appreciate the time you took to write your thoughtful comment! Hope you stick around my channel :) Have a great week!

Hi, Amy, which course at Caltech was harder for you: Math 1abc or Physics 1abc? Why?
Physics 1abc because math is my strong suit! And I already did number theory, linear algebra, and multivariable Calc in high school haha

Did you go further ahead like abstract algebra, real & complex analysis, topology, etc. at Caltech?

Wow, that's very impressive considering that you're a chemical engineering rather than a math major.

Can you make a video about how to not care about what people think
Hi Amy, I love all you tips but I have always struggled with self discipline, I feel like every morning I'll have a mental checklist of things I want to get done yet I usually only manage to complete one task if any and usually it's done halfway :( The lack of discipline causes me to be inconsistent with forming any good habits and tbh it's stressful because I know I can be doing better, any tips?
Hi, thanks for watching my videos and glad my tips are helpful! Ah, discipline is a difficult habit to maintain for sure! I made this video on discipline: czcams.com/video/J95XS1vUyGg/video.html
I’d love to make another video covering this topic, so after you check the above out, lmk what further questions you might have :)
Thank you, I love your content
Thank you for watching and for your support!

Second here!
Ayy
You were explaining with very fun.
Didn't get bored in the whole video.
Funny girl with high IQ like you hard to find 😂
HY AMY
HI SOHAIB
CAN YOU WORK WITH ME
Its ironic you mention Tay-Tay. Are you a Swiftie? She and Bruce Springsteen did not do anything beyond high school.
While other kids were in university, both of them were starting their music careers. And who are the rich and famous
world class pop stars now? So, no post secondary but it is amazing what a creative and thoughtful still young woman
Taylor Swift is. With NO post secondary education, not even in music! Why didn't she go to university and study music?
I know someone who is a singer-songwriter and went to art school. And all of the Talking Heads met at RISD.
Good on you to be so ambitious in education, but with such expense and mental stress is it worth it?
Yes I love Tay Tay haha - she’s super inspiring and my sister and I always sang her songs from a young age. I’d say that education is generally worth it, but I feel like I manage really large workloads in a rather effective way since I don’t tend to be super stressed!
That ring! Is she married? I wonder...
I announced it in a community post 🥰: czcams.com/video/mCb-bUVltlg/video.html
My beautiful baby Asian you're are very inspiring ❤❤
Amy, did you get a chance to read my reply to the comment I made on your 'How I never burnout & keep leveling up. Day in the life of a consultant + creator' vlog? I actually wrote 4th of July 🇺🇲 greetings for you on it. You don't have to reply to it, just acknowledge that you've read it, that's all. Would mean a lot.
Hi! So sorry I must’ve missed it! I’m afraid I’m fortunate enough to get many kind comments from awesome people like you now, but I will search for your comment right now!
I did not find your comment btw :((
@@wamyy5, here's how you can find the 4th of July 🇺🇲 greetings comment I left for you:
Go to your 'How I never burnout & keep leveling up. Day in the Life of a consultant + creator' vlog and there in the comments section you'll find my comment which you have pinned. Now click on the replies section of that exact same comment and you'll find my 4th of July 🇺🇲 greetings comment I left for you around 3 weeks ago!
Both mothers Amy n Taylor are mothering 💖

hel lo😊
Hii :)
I am more than content in the bottom 99%. Mediocrity is enough.
You already have the genetics for it. And you are an attractive woman which gives you more advantages.
She's not really good looking. Men have like super super super low standards. It's a myth that men have high standard. The hot and tall men have a sexual abundance so they are the only men with high standards for their fidelity.
This woman is I think between a 4-5/10. It's surprising that she's dating a man of her own race.
Fantastic, high-quality as per usual 💯❤️.
