  • A fascinating history of the gambling ships that used to anchor three miles off the coast of Santa Monica, attracting thousands of people shuttled by water taxi. Written, shot, produced and edited by Santa Monica College students in Media 20, a history-communications interdisciplinary class (fall 2012).

I would have thought this video about gambling ships would have mentioned that Rita Hayworth was a performer on Cornero's ship, The S.S. Rex. But I guess not.

Why is the picture so mashed down? It's painful!

@@greatphildead It's still mashed down. Look at the proportions of the people and objects. It's like they're under 10x gravity. Someone took 4:3 ratio pictures and stretched them way the hell out. It's not that it wasn't as wide as my screen--it's that the picture should be a lot taller in order for the pictures to look normal. And this hasn't been fixed in the seven years since I commented on it.
I guess I could save the video and watch it in VLC, where I can adjust the ratio, but that seems like a lot of extra work.
