I'm gonna give a big big big big BIG warning to you guys. I do not recommend fighting this guy without any upgrades or armor. Seriously, combine the miniscule health without the upgrades, how weak your elements are without upgrades to them, especially Cynder's shadow, and with how hard Malefor hits as well as how hard his attacks are to dodge, especially the purple fire, you'll be lucky to make it past the 1st phase. And even if you do, remember, Spyro and Cynder's health do not regenerate after each phase.
Or just use the infinite health and infinite mana cheat code.

Finally meeting the Dark Lord Malefor in the flesh! I wasn't ready for his god-like powers! I was a kid back then!

To think this boss fight was so damn powerful! Everything that has happened from all three games, to those three years between Eternal Night and this game, to the losses that everyone has suffered, has led up to this fateful moment! This is truly a hell of a way to conclude a really powerful, but underrated Trilogy with such a powerful battle! As a massive fan of this trilogy as a whole, I LOVED every moment of the battle, every phase, every attack, every MOMENT of it!
As for the fight itself, it wasn’t that hard for me because I was fully upgraded, wore the gold armor for both dragons, and I knew how to avoid attacks and take advantage of the dodging. Since I was so passionate, I was really into the fight itself as if I was actually fighting alongside Spyro and Cynder! My emotions ran wild, my adrenaline rushed like crazy, and my spirit and heart were on fire from my riffs and passion I let out throughout the entire fight, right up until the heart-wrenching ending!
It was especially a great finale since many believed this was gonna be the last Spyro game ever. Thank goodness the Reignited Trilogy revived the franchise years later.

I remember this fight being crazy difficult as a kid. Made it that the more satisfying finally beating it but oh my god the ending had me :(

The first time I fought him, I went in with full health and upgrades, and he gave me hell like I had not experienced before. Nowadays I'm pretty good at him, but I'll never forget the sheer terror that was fighting him for the first time
Unfortunately, my sister just had to ruin this epic moment by activating the infinite health and infinite mana cheat code.
One of the very few moments in my life reaching the finale of a game made my body tremble.
It all led up to this. I loved playing these games on release.
This music would fit PERFECTLY for a boss fight in a Dark Souls game or Elden Ring.
