I could listen to Bob talk about Mr. Mays all day!!! RIP Legend.
Not me. I loved Willie but Costas is a pompous windbag.
Not many people can articulate their points like Bob Costas, especially about baseball.
Ruth, Mays and Aaron best fact. All three started and ended their careers in the same city, but for different teams.
Bob’s impression of Mr Willie Mays was Awesome 😂😂😂, brought joy to my heart, R.I.P Mr. Willie Mays🕊️💐
#24 had 24 all stars
Passed on 2024 🫡
Just because there was 2 all star games in that era doesn’t discredit the fact he was an elite player all year round, not a first half players like some of these guys now!
On 6/18
6+18? You guessed it.
@@HisHowliness wow 👏
I haven't heard Bob Costas in a while. What an eloquent broadcaster, and a fan a Baseball he is.
Bob Costas just said EVERYTHING well !!
I wish that I could have seen Mays play. That also includes Mantle, Ted Williams, Clemente, and the players from that era. Just one game to see how great they were.
Those are three different eras
@@TheOGSticks11 That wasn't really true. All of them played in the 50's
It’s not your fault that you were not born yet.
loved this seg
Many people don’t know, that Willie was “on deck”, when Bobby Thompson hit the “Shot heard round the world”, in 1951, against the Dodgers.
A buddy of mine was born that day
@@kennethgoldberg83 Cool. My former coworker, was born on the day in late September 1961, when Roger Maris hit #61. (& and he was born in the Bronx) His dad, missed his birth, because he was in the lobby watching the game & home run on TV.
Not new history!!
@@kennethgoldberg83 I think Dave Winfield was born that day, too.
@@williamcarter9066 I don’t understand your comment. Of course somebody born in 1951 or 1961 is not “New history”. You should look up the definition of “history”
Or were you referring to, that you already knew about my “specific” coworker being born on the day Maris hit #61. & about the antics of his dad What high school did he attend in the Bronx?
always love Bob chats
RIP Coach & Mr. Mays.
Wow!! Mays and Gretzky. Athletically they were men among boys even while they were boys.
Mays was one of the greats
Maybe that was all he needed because I can’t argue what number he falls on.
Rest in peace
Greatest Ball Player Ever!
Bob Costas is the best MLB historian and commentator by far. It’s so kind for me to him remembering the greatness of Roberto Clemente as he evaluated who is or was the best. I agree Mays is above Clemente… but the Boricua wasn’t far away.
special convo
Larry King on his CNN show asked greatest catch he every saw. He didn’t know because he never watched the game when Giants were batting.⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️
Visited Rickwood Field earlier in the year, the not-so-secret to this commemorative game...is MLB has not put-up any money for this event.
All the stadium renovations to meet MLB requirements and updates, was paid by the City of Birmingham and Friends of Rickwood Field. MLB didn't not offer any loan, forward any funds or, provide any grants...dugouts had to be rebuilt eliminating seats, electrical had to be updated, seating all changed, club houses updated and carpeted and interior spaces updated and made available to MLB.
RIP Say Hey
Quite right. It all seems like yesterday. But yes.
He also said Willie McCovey was in the mix.
Make The Catch the MLB logo. Retire #24 league wide.
Great idea.
Retire 21 first
@@Ryan-zl3bn Clemente was no Willie Mays
@@TheOGSticks11 If Roberto didn't die young and had 4,000 hits the story might be different.
@@deepcosmiclove but he didn't.
Gaylord Perry was my coach in college - he said Mays & Aaron were the best ever - as was he 3.11 ERA - 303 complete games & 3534 Strike outs ... Seriously (?)
Does Wille have more home runs now? (after MLB just recently added in the Negro leagues stats)
good question
@@jackham174 Thanks, I asked this on couple of other videos last night, and only one person replied, & with only just one word “No”. I asked him to elaborate on it, and no surprise, he didn’t respond back
Willie is not credited with any homers in his time in the NNL.
@@DownriverRick Well that makes zero sense and is the reason why people think adding those stats was Dumb AF in the first place, if Gibsons lifetime avg bests Cobbs how does Willies NL stats not carry over? So are we just cherry picking certain stats and When do we add Sadahuru Oh's HR's to the official MLB stats or Pablo Sanchez backyard BB stats of 1435 lifetime HR?
@@pycellesbeard9728 Mays is credited with 13 games in 1948 in which he had 10 hits, none were HR's.
As for the rest of your post, this is not the place.
Somehow the guest's sound to video is the one that isn't aggravatingly off.
Great words on Willie Mays. Bob Costas is incredible when speaking on a legend, such as Mr. Mays, or Stan Musial and Mickey Mantle. Unfortunately, Mr. Costas in one of his unhinged, liberal discourses, is full of more baloney than Howard Cosell on his worse day. Speaking about professional sports legends is a Costas powerhouse!
wouldnt make you being a 5 tool player the goat over a 3 or 4 tool player? he is the goat.
Ruth stole home 10 times and had more OF assists than Mays.
Stats like this make Ruth seem like a time traveler who went back in time to destroy old timey baseball.
3.11 ERA over one of the longest careers ever - playing for the The Indians, The Rangers ... Those teams sucked - badly.
Let me guess, When He was young his dad took him to a game and said "See that man? That's Willie Mays, the Greatest player Who ever lived!, Then He folded up his betting sheet that smelled of Aqua Velva and put it in his lapel and fed the family for a week after unsung hero Louie Laperno hit a triple in the 9th that grazed Willie's Glove and scored Duke Snider from 1st...Pops Third favorite Greatest CF of all time only behind Mickey and Willie"
